Same as above, my surgery center says they don't work. I was pretty bummed because it was my plan for my "chew it" stage. Now I can take capsules and have no problems with them so it's not a big deal to me anymore.

Achieving your goals and rewarding yourself
kcuster83 replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I don't even know. I can't even buy clothes as I loose weight because I have so many from sizes 5x-1x and 26-14. lol I have lost and gained so much weight my adult life I have a stock pile of clothes so I just go shopping in my closet. I do always seem to get rid of the "too big" clothes because "I'll never get that fat again". Yet, keep all the smaller ones because "I will be that skinny again". HAHA Jokes on me, turns out I just have to keep buying fat girl clothes over and over. I have high hopes this is the last time now that I had surgery. I want a designer cross body purse, but frankly I am cheap. haha I am perfectly happy with my $10 purse. Plus, once I am smaller I will have more options for the cross body actually fitting across my body. Maybe I will finally splurge?? Also, travel travel travel! We love to travel, road trips are the best but sometimes just fly and be there. Depends on the trip. I stopped flying because I got so fat I didn't want to have to ask for a seat belt extender. Even when I was 100 lbs less, seats are still tight for me! I am "broad or wide" whatever you want to call it and tall so my knees are always in the seat in front of me. Maybe I will plan a big trip? I have a bunch of tattoos, so I wouldn't call that a reward for myself. Just another day. Although, I do want to get one to remind me of my journey and my "old self" and to never give up on myself! One that reflects how I feel and what I went thru to get here! (When I get "here") You definitely have me thinking now though!! -

I feel like I smell food no matter where I am. I don't have cravings or even any hunger but I swear every where I go I smell some type of food. Especially it if is fried. My smell has gotten much more sensitive since surgery. Not like, everything grosses me out, but smells are more intense. -

Yes, I have had their grilled nuggets before surgery but not after yet. The are very good. I can, and eat chicken all the time but try not to hit FF cause for real.. the fried ones are better and I don't want to be tempted YET. HAHAH I also have a problem with the Chik fila sauce! That little container is 140 cals!!! -

I drank the gatorade zero with protein during my liquid stage to help his my goals... GOOD LORD I got so sick of them. I only drank 1 or 2 a day and now the thought gags me. I still have a full case at home, maybe after a few months break I will try them again just so they don't go to waste. -

I have not. I don't do a lot of artificial sweeteners. Not because I am all anti sweetener, just more of because I don't do much sweet stuff anyway so I never really need it.(Even before surgery) I have had the same 10oz tub of sugar for like 5 years because I just never use sugar so I never had a reason to use a substitute. I will definitely give it a try and see how it is, just for when I want something else than water. Thanks!! -

I always forget that I CAN drink other stuff too. I have always loved water and been a HUGE water drinker but probably once a day I would drink a diet soda too. Every once in a while you just want something different. I am not a big juice person, but I also love lemonade. Sugar free or crystal light just does not cut it for me, it's not gross or anything it's just not "lemonade" so I pretty much just stick with the water. I like unsweetened tea with lemon but after surgery it seems to make me very thirsty. -
Seems about right to me. Everyone is a little different, some can eat a little more and some a little less. Just stop when you are full or feel restriction, I assume you already do since you range between 1 and 4oz.

6 days post op and 0 lbs lost
kcuster83 replied to BariBlonde's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If you have a calorie deficit you will loose weight. Point blank. Doesn't matter what you eat as long as it is less calories than you burn. Eating healthy is for other benefits, like some health problems. (Heart health) If you eat 500 calories of bacon a day, you might have a heart attack but you will still loose weight. My nutritionist actually calculated out mine at my last appointment, including how much weight a week I would loose based on the deficit. I am eating 17,500 LESS calories a week than my body needs to maintain my current weight. I was completely shocked. As you loose weight, the gap lessons but no matter what, a deficit means weight loss. Don't obsess, it happens if you are following the plan for sure. -
Going on 3 weeks post op and can't drink or eat anything
kcuster83 replied to PM2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Very odd. I have never heard of this. I am on 2 forums, in 2 support groups and on a FB bariatric page. Everyone's pr-op diet, length of post-op diets and food lists differ quite a bit from surgeon to surgeon. But, I have NEVER heard of the food phases in a different order. It's liquid, pureed, soft, solid. It doesn't even make sense as to how your stomach would tolerance "solid soft" foods before pureed. I am not trying to be rude, or under minding but are sure you understood correctly? Didn't get mixed up? Maybe your surgeon says mushy foods as pureed? I could see mushy and pureed kind of being the same thing, but soft is soft. It is solid but soft foods. -

100% normal. Water weight from IV fluids, swelling, or body adjusting. A lot of people gain weight. All a sudden you will drop a large amount and be like WHOA and then it will balance out. Few lbs a week until you hit stalls. -
Last week I had my 6 week follow up, I get about 600-700 calories a day while hitting 70g MIN. protein and 60oz MIN fluids. According the handout we were given in one of my classes at this stage I should be getting 800-1000 calories. So I was concerned I wasn't eating enough. He told me I was perfect and if I am hungry then eat more otherwise do not worry about the shortage. My days is kinda like this. Breakfast: shake (30 g protein) Lunch: some type of meat and a few bites of veggie (15-20g protein) A lot of time my lunches are leftover dinner from the night before. Dinner: Meat and again few bites of veggies. Snack: Usually a light cheese stick or baby bell cheese, sometimes turkey pepperoni and cheese, sometimes lunch meat and cheese rolls up. Every once in a while I eat a few carbs with lunch or dinner, Mini tortilla, sweet potato, I have even had bread and crackers. But I fill up very fast so it is not often and I usually can't finish the carb or I skip it because I am already full. PS: Before all you carb nazi's come at me: My nutritionist is VERY balanced. We eat all food groups, protein first and in moderation while controlling portion sizes!

How often do you guys weigh yourselves?
kcuster83 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh myself in the exact same clothes I did for my first appointment. Now, they are too big so I stand on the scale naked and hold them. LOL -

I take a lot to get put to sleep but wake up easily. I only know that from previous surgeries. This surgeon didn't mention it so I would be curious to know if it was all the same. You have me intrigued, I am gonna have to get off my butt and create my account! -

Does anyone have a sample/suggestions to what a liquid diet pee op should look like
kcuster83 replied to mafer1980's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is shockingly different from surgeon to surgeon. Some is just light meals, some is light meals and protein shakes, some is only liquids. Some don't even require it at all and some only require 48 hrs of clear liquids only. Mine provided a list of foods and their serving sizes, which you could pick 6 servings a day of. In addition to 4 protein shakes a day. Then only calorie free liquids. -
About the first week , I could only do small sips because of my esophagus being stretched and it was "extremely narrow" according to my surgeon. Drinking didn't bother my stomach but it hurt my throat. After about a week I was drinking pretty normal but could not take huge gulps, if would feel like I was swallowing a hard lump of something. Now, 7 weeks out, I can drink a lot and fast. I wouldn't say I chug like before surgery but I can definitely get water down quick. Before I had surgery I just kept reading "sip, sip, sip" and I was worried I would never be able to drink normal again but that was short lived and I was back to normal in no time.

Funny, that is how I justify things too. Even before surgery. "Is it worth the calories?" haha Sweet potato sounds good too. I really like sweet and spicy together. When you aren't eating anything sweet or sugary, a sweet potato is so sweet it taste like dessert. -
