*trigger warning* My Dad
kcuster83 replied to Tatt's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is sad. I feel for your dad and all of you. Never stop being your own advocate. Fight for yourself, always! I was seeing these "black spots" and my Doctor (who did NOT disregard it) had no clue. Sent me to eye doctor, they found nothing, who sent me to an eye nerve doctor who literally stated that I was hallucinating in my file because i "smoked POT". My doctor called and worked with a disease doctor, thought maybe limes disease. Saw 2 more specialists. Finally to the Neurologist. The first thing he said after going over all the details is "your Brain controls it all, why wouldn't they have started there?" Sent me for a MRI, had a bacterial infection in my brain. Had lesions covering almost half of my brain, right on the field of sight area. I was literally going blind. 2 Months afteer the MRI and heavy meds, I am perfectly fine, no sign of lesions or and deficiency in sight. MRI every 6 months for 4 years and then cleared. Took 6 months to figure it out. My doctor never gave up but some of the specialist he sent me too basically told me nothing is wrong and I am crazy. -
Eating every 3 hours....
kcuster83 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told as long as I was meeting my protein goals, to just eat 3x a day. If I was hungry then eat again. Otherwise, the 6 meals a day are as needed. I currently do a shake for breakfast and then eat 3 other times through the day. I average 600-700 calories a day and 70 or more grams of protein. While maintaining 70 or more oz. of fluids. With all of the drinking and the no drinks 30 min before and after eating, I don't even know how you have time to eat every 3 hours. haha I am 7 weeks out and I can drink very fast now, but in the beginning it took all day to hit my fluids and I was barely hitting the goal. Although the goals got much easier when I got back to a normal diet. -
I wasn't allowed to swallow any pills for the first 2 weeks and then only small pills approximately the size of a pea for 6 weeks. Although, they do have teas that might be ok? Should probably just ask your team to be safe.

Watch the clock. It sounds stupid, but 1 bite every minute. That is how I trained myself to slow down.
-
Good luck figuring it out, hope it gets better soon.

oh yea, I know that feeling. Mine sat for about 3 years and I have to take it to the repair shop because the brakes were getting stuck. My tires were completely flat too. But in good shape, just had to pump up. That's what we get for being lazy. haha

Great job! I hate walking, like really really hate it. It is so boring to me. I ride my bike though. And, I was cleared for the gym at my 6 week follow up but I haven't started back.
-
Ohh, maybe you should call?
-
That's weird. I normally would have thought a blood clot but since that was already ruled out I don't know. Are you guys walking a lot? Maybe too much sitting? Like when you sit on the toilet too long and your legs go numb? 😂😂😂😂 Have either of you asked the actual surgeon about it?

yep, weighing and measuring everything is safest. I don't really feel restriction often so I eat the measured amount and stop even if I don't feel full. I guess it depends on what I eat to feel it or not. I am never hungry and only eat because I know I have to so it's not a big deal to just stop eating right now. Hopefully it stays like this for a while, I feel like it makes it easier. I don't use baby anything, regular plates and utensils. I weigh and measure so I know I am not putting too much on my plate. Depending on what it is, sometimes it looks like way too much food on my plate and other times it looks like nothing. haha

ohhh ok, well at least now it will likely be covered by insurance. good luck!
-
I hope the best for you. Question: What does the panniculectomy have to do with a kidney transplant?
-
hah! Your friend is probably an awesome friend. My life long best friend is a recovering alcohol and I bought her the same bracelet. 😉🤣

How often do you weigh yourself after WLS?
kcuster83 replied to Possum220's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once a week documented for progress, but sometimes I sneak a mid week weigh in. haha -
I am about 7 weeks out from bypass. I eat about 4oz at a time, but it really depends what i am eating. Something things sit heavy and fill me up faster than others. Of those 4-5 oz, 2-2.5 are a protein. I am now off restrictions and can eat whatever my stomach will tolerate. I have tried tons of stuff, no steak and no lettuce yet as they tend to be harder to tolerate. But I have all kinda of other fresh veggies and lettuce is next because I miss salad. haha So far the only thing I had a problem with was a bite of pit beef meat, but that was a few weeks ago and I haven't tried since. I was so miserable and sick, I don't plan on trying again for a while (or ever). haha I am not a big pit beef person anyway so it isn't a big loss for me. Good luck on your journey!

Thanks for keeping me occupied all day ladies!! I am about to head home now! It was nice chatting. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!
-
Love it! I was private about mine so I am not brave enough to throw it out there on a shirt. (Bypass)
-
OOO Thanks for the tip. I love using my air fryer.
-
Everyone who tried them when I made em, liked them. I made me 2oz patties and the rest in 4oz patties.
-
I was allowed to have sauce too, my nutritionist just said try a little first and make sure I handle ok. I also had tomato soup on liquids with no issues.
-
This is the one I used. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/240130/scrumptious-salmon-cakes/ I baked them though, at 400* for about 10 min each side.
-
Someone else mentioned I may have cooked it too long and dried it out.
-
I do like Salmon cakes, I bake them instead of fry and they are yummy and low fat. I haven't tried actual Salmon yet, but before surgery it was a smidge too fishy for me.
