    New here

Hello and welcome, Don't stress. I assume you mean it is your first appointment with the surgeon? They really only go over the surgery options and help you choose which option is best for you. Give you details of what to expect. I was given some charts to show the differences between the surgeries and the "average" results. Talked about my history with weight problems, he asked things like what I wanted to achieve and what my goal weight was. Mainly to make sure I had realistic expectations. it was very relaxed and stress free. There was no pressure. Of course, this was the experience with my surgeon at the first appointment.
  2. Does your insurance pay for them? If not, do you mind me asking how much they cost?
  3. @Tufflaw NEVERMIND! IGNORE ME, The amazon pills are Calcium carbonate!
  4. This is weird... the ones at walmart are 2 pills per serving but the same brand and mg on amazon says 1 pill per serving???

    Bowel Movement after Sleeve

I had Bypass.... but.... For probably 7-8 years I have suffered from IBS with constipation. I was on a prescription to have BM's. Nothing over the counter worked. It was horrible. Before surgery I was so worried about it getting worse since constipation is such a common problem after WLS. Honestly, it was my biggest concern over everything else! So, POST OP: The first 2 days I had bad diarrhea. Not in large amounts because I wasn't eating, but it was all day long. Then I went from one extreme to the other complete constipation! UHG.. 6 days to be exact... my surgeon told me not to take my prescription without talking to him first so I finally called. He was on vacation so the office was waiting to get a response from him. In the meantime.. it came... SOOO hard.. SOOO painful. Took almost 2 hours on the toilet!! it hurt to sit down afterwards. Was ridiculous frankly! Then is was about another 3-4 days, a couple times of this less hard and painful each time. Then all a sudden I AM CURED! I am 3 months post op now and more regular than I have been my entire adult life!!! I have no problems going, almost every day sometimes every other. It is normal and easy and I take NO laxatives, supplements (for BM's) or prescriptions! Naturally regular and I must say it is wonderful. I never thought I would be so happy to poop! I know a lot of people drink miralax every single day to keep them regular. I really hope it works out for you and you find relief because I truly understand you suffering!

Chips and salsa and bad eating day

I can't eat them plain. They have like a powdery texture, hard to explain. I have eaten them as nachos and it was doable but not preferred. I do however, love "popcorners FLEX" protein crisps. I have only had the cheddar sour cream but I think they are very good. If you haven't tried them, give it a go and see what you think. They are cheaper too.
  7. I am not sure this is a "victory" but, sooo much hair in my butt crack! To elaborate: I don't mean my butt has grown hair. haha When I shower, there is always a wad of hair stuck between my butt cheeks. I assume my ass has gotten smaller so the crack is not squeezed a tightly shut allowing for hairs to be grabbed on the way down. hahah (PS: I have not been loosing anymore hair than normal, so I know it's not that)

Today is a new day. Move on, you got this! It could have been way worse.
  9. Hello and welcome to the bariatric life. I'm Kim, 38 no kids. From MD. You will find lots of helpful stuff on here and maybe some not so helpful stuff. (haha) Overall, I had a lot of questions answers just by reading everything when I first started the WLS process.

    “Low” BMI Qualifiers?

My insurance is BMI 35 or greater with 2 or more comorbidities and BMI 40 or greater without comorbidities. I have no idea if you pay out of pocket what the requirements are... if there even is one?

    Stall out and depressed

Depression is a b***h! Just don't give up, on anything. Mental or physical health! You know you will get through it. Just take one step at a time.

    Stall out and depressed

Reach out to your team. I have heard before that sometimes you need to increase your calories for a week or so and then drop back down to like reboot your metabolism. I only heard about it on these groups, but it does make sense to me so I would ask your team for pointers. Ask about the calorie increase and see what they say? They are the pros, we all are just here for support and opinions. Good luck and you will get through this! You are doing an amazing job!❤️

    YAY

I made a comment a while ago that it is amazing how as you gain weight you don't notice all the negative changes to your body but when you loose the weight you notice EVERY TINY CHANGE! My knees no longer grind when walking up steps. My feet and ankles don't swell up when walking around or being on them for a period of time. I get up from sitting much easier. I walked around all day (9 hours) at the amusement park and didn't really get worn out or "ready to go" in a few hours. I fit into smaller booth seats at restaurants, and don't worry about specifically asking for a table. Gezz, the list could go on and on! I need to remeasure myself because I see a huge difference. Even my shoes are loose. I went from a 4x shirt to a 1x or 2x depending on the cut. Size 26 jeans down to a size 20, which is loose. Flip side, so many almost new expensive clothes to donation! Three trash bags already and I need to go through my shirts tonight! We really need to find a way to do a clothing exchange for bariatric patients.

    First Post-Op Dr Visit

The difference is still the difference. If your scaled started at 200 and now 210, it is 10 lbs. If theirs started at 215 and now 205, still 10 lbs. Just use the scale to track loss not your actual weight, if that makes sense?
  17. I have a "mostly" desk job, that could easily be made a 100% desk job. I took 4 weeks off but went back @ 3 weeks part time, then by week 5 I was back to working normal hours at my normal efficiency but by the end of the day I was more tired than normal. With that being said, by day 4/5 post op I was able to do just about anything except walk very long distances. I could bend, sit, lay, stand. I was doing small things around the house, going for short walks. Also, being lazy and doing nothing. So, based on my experience I could probably work from home strictly on the computer after a week post op. Everyone is different though, just listen to your body and do what you can. My employer bends over backwards for me and basically let me come back at my own pace. Maybe you could try it out for a day or 2 and then if needed take a few more days off and try again? If your employer would be willing to work with you in such a manor.

    Started WK 2 and Starving

We were told tomatoes could be too rich on a new TUM TUM (haha) but we were allowed. They recommended that we try a teaspoon or 2 and wait a few to see how we handle it before eating a serving. I did fine with it. Yes, I had actual tomato bisque soup (strained) and it was DELICIOUS! PS: I think baby tum tum is perfect. hahaha

    Started WK 2 and Starving

Are you allowed creamed soups? They are a little heartier and might help you feel full longer. I was allowed so I had creamed chicken soup strained and put old bay in it and tomato bisque. Hope it helps, but I wouldn't cheat. haha Your "tum tum" needs time to heal! I did start "soft foods" a day earlier but I asked permission and my surgeon approved me to do so. So, you could reach out and see what they say. They also might just have pointers. Good luck!

    Post Op Periods

Someone I know had sleeve surgery and she had the same issue. Basically her period never stopped. She had it for like 2 months and then I think they gave her some meds or something to address it. I really don't know the details but I know she got it resolved.

  22. Bypass. Where in MD are you from, I am in Baltimore!
  23. I had to look up " ESG" and know nothing about it. At 2 weeks out I was barely eating 200-300 cals a day. Now at 3 months out I am between 700-800.
