ooohhh, I never thought about just using non-stick spray!
-
Yeaa, I plan to try them. I was going to attempt it first just plain/ no oil and see. Cheap enough experiment. haha Then go on to the oil if needed.

YUM! I love nachos! I have made them once since surgery and used the quest protein chips, but they aren't my favorite. So, I need to try other options. Mr. tortilla are super low calorie/carb tortillas. They are good and they make chips but I haven't tried them. I might just cute up a wrap or 2 and air fry my own to make them even better and give it a try! I do eat a few regular tortillas with guacamole or salsa at Mexican restaurants but nothing like I used to.

Getting closer… timeline question
kcuster83 replied to LookingForward22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't need cardiac clearance, I assume that is case by case. I did however have surgery scheduled within 30 days of my last appointment. My final appointment was 2/24 or 2/25 (can't remember without looking at my calendar) but my surgery was 3/21. -
OH MY! My team starts out with multivitamin and calcium and then adjusts accordingly based on blood work. I currently take 1 multivitamin w/ iron and 1 calcium a day! My 3 month blood work was good but I don't get again until 1 year post op so I don't have long term results yet.

WOOHOO Awesome job! I really need to remeasure myself. I haven't measured since the night before surgery. I keep saying I am going to do it and then don't do it. I know it is a huge change, I have dropped 6 pants sizes! -

For Gastric Bypass - Water intake question
kcuster83 replied to WillowAspen's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I had Bypass. I was hitting my water goal by my 2 week follow up. Protein took about 3 weeks and then fell back off at pureed foods so I had to readjust my eating schedule. Now I pretty much have it down pat, but I still can't hit my protein goal without 1 shake a day. I have tried a few times. My work day looks like this, weekends are the same but the time just shifts a few hours later: Wake up 530 Breakfast 6-630am: Shake @ 30g protein Drink from 7/730-11/1130am: At least 20 oz. Lunch 12pm: Depends on what I pack but anywhere from 12-20g protein Drink from 1-3pm: At least 20 oz. Snack (as needed for the protein boost from a lighter lunch) 330pm: Usually 5-10g protein like a string cheese Drink from 4-6ish pm: At least 20 oz Dinner around 6/630pm: Depends on what I pack but anywhere from 15-20g protein Drink from 7pm till bedtime: I go to bed early on week nights so not much at this time. I average 70g protein and 70oz water daily. At first I was annoyed because I was just constantly worrying about it and non stop drinking and eating. But now at a little over 3 months post op I can drink a 16 oz bottle of water in 30 minutes. So if I get behind I can (kinda) chug it to catch up or if I am on track I can just take a break and not worry about it. You really do just find your new routine, it just might take some time. I am VERY motivated to make the best of this so I pushed myself very hard int he beginning to start hitting those goals. -
Pretty much like others said, if you have a calorie deficit you WILL loose weight. You may have stalls through the process but they will end and you will continue to loose weight. The larger you start the faster you loose because your calorie deficit is greater. As you get closer to a "normal size" your weight loss will slow because your calorie deficit is smaller. My dietician actually calculated my calorie deficit at my second visit when I was back onto solid foods and it was 18,590 calories a week! It is crazy how much I was eating to maintain the weight I was at! Do not panic, just follow your plan and it works. We are all proof it works!

I would definitely talk to your surgeon and your PCP and see what they say. You might need a referral to an endocrinologist .

Meal preppers - looking for some advice/suggestions
kcuster83 replied to Tufflaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been meal prepping off and on for years. The possibilities are endless, really. It is actually harder for me now because sometimes reheated meat gets to me. Especially pork. I can eat it with no problem fresh but reheated, I can usually only eat like 2 bites. I even make sure to add some of the sauce/juice in the container to keep it moist. I don't really know what it is. I also get tired of the same thing quicker now, so when I do prep I usually do 2/3 days at a time and then switch it up. Doing it this way, it is usually whatever I make for dinner mid week I just make enough extra for a few lunches. You can have an extravagant meal, all the way down to (what I call) an adult lunchable. They are actually one of my favorite meal preps because (again) the possibilities are endless. Meat, cheese, veggie, sometimes I even have a few crackers. (YES, crackers. They are allowed in my plan) You can google tons of ideas. Simple, or involved. Slow cooker: Chicken with salsa, pair with a tortilla Chicken with fajita seasoning, add peppers and onions for the last hour or so. Eat just like that or with rice or a tortilla. Steak/beef with broccoli. Quick skillet: Ground turkey with taco seasoning, paired with refried beans Chicken with veggies and melted cheese Turkey burgers, I love mine without a bun topped with feta cheese and hots. No cooking: Adult lunchables, as mentioned above Tuna or chicken salad with veggies or crackers (my go to is cucumbers) Lunch meat and cheese roll ups or wraps Fresh salad with just about any meat you prefer These are just a few ideas that popped in my head. Good luck! -
My sister in law uses the tanning lotion and she got out of the pool and it was like running off of her skin. Looked like running water colors. I don't know the brand though. Might want to do a test run before your pool party if you have access to a pool?

Eating too much? 3 - 4 weeks Post op
kcuster83 replied to Veritas34's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
*** I had Bypass, so it may be different*** At 1 month post op, my plan was to eat 400-600 calories a day. Then the next phase it increased to 500-800 calories. Once I was eating "normal" foods again I stay at 800-1000 until I hit maintenance. I am just over 3 months post op and on normal foods and a normal balanced diet and eat about 600-800 calories a day. I was worried I was not eating enough but my Dietician reviewed my food diaries and said I am doing perfect, not to worry about not hitting the calories as long as I am meeting my protein and fluids goals. From what you listed I do not think it is too much food as long as you are comfortable and not over eating or feeling stuffed. They are all low fat healthy proteins! Good job! -
Slim body but your brain's still thinking fat

Yesss, I am still plenty chubby. But I fit comfortably in a standard stall and still find myself going to the disabled ones! I just did it last night at the movies. -
Taking ibuprofen right after I check out from the hospital

Weird, I would definitely question it. Maybe they had a brain fart. -
Taking ibuprofen right after I check out from the hospital
kcuster83 replied to Supafly82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your doctor told you or your SURGEON told you? You doctor may not know the rules of WLS. You should definitely follow what your surgeon tells you over your doctor, in regard to the surgery. -
I was told no straws but honestly can't remember if it was for recovery or forever. I remember in the hospital the nurse gave me a cup of water with a straw (which I did not use) but when my surgeon came in to check on me he grabbed it and threw it away while saying "NO STRAWS". 🤷♀️ Now, 3 months out I use them all the time. I think the first time was around 2 months post op but I never had a problem with them.

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
kcuster83 replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks. Yea, I never use all the different things on my scale. I just use it for weight, I never believed it was accurate. Although, I don't have a good reason other than just my thoughts. haha -
I am sorry but I am not sure what you are saying and/or asking here?

My first apt was the surgeon, and the "coordinator". The surgeon apt was as I mentioned above. The coordinator came in afterwards to give me the run down of what my insurance required and how to proceed if I wanted to.

Chips and salsa and bad eating day

I log every single thing, including fluids. I honestly don't think I "need" to anymore but I still do. It is like an obsession now.
