  1. I understand. There is no where better to be than home when you are not feeling good. I hope you get relief and start feeling good soon.
  2. Calm down, stop freaking out and breathe. I know that is easier said than done but try. I also had Bypass, hiatal hernia, severe GERD and nodules in my esophagus. I was not diagnosed with Barrett's but was told I was well on my way. I originally wanted the sleeve and my main reason was for weight loss and to hopefully not develop a ton of medical issues that hang around my family genes. After speaking with my surgeon at my first appointment, he explained that sleeve would likely worsen my GERD while bypass has a much better chance of resolving it. So, after some reading and further research I went with bypass. I had bypass, my hernia fixed, repairs and "trimming" of my esophagus all at once. Fast forward: I am not 4 months post op and have NO regrets or any issues. I did however experience that "stuck feeling" for about a week. I was told it was because my esophagus was narrow and needed time to heal and "loosen" back up after surgery. It did in fact go away, rather quickly. I also had minor spasms for a few days after surgery which also went away. You had more damage than me, it seems so you have to be paiteint and give your body time to heal. Everyone heals differently and you are still fresh out of surgery. I was on 2 prescriptions and eating tums daily and my GERD was still out of control. The day of surgery they stopped 1 prescription of acid meds and I was only taking prescription grade pepcid( Famotidine ). I was told that was standard for at least 2 months after surgery to give our stomachs time to heal and to help prevent ulcers. I have been off ALL GERD medications including the pepcid now for 2 months and still have no signs of GERD or any other acid issues. The meds are likely temporary to give your body time to heal and to act as preventative medication. The black stools are likely the bleeding and if you were on blood thinners, it would be worse. I assume you did some research before choosing your surgeon and trusted him/her. So, trust them. Give yourself the time to heal. Ulcers in general take a bit of time to heal, then adding the surgery and all the other issues you had before surgery. Give it some time. I hope it works out for you! Take it easy.

    Back pain disappearing

My desk at work is low and I am very tall. I think it makes it worse. I am going to probably ask my boss to make it higher. Even if they use wooden blocks or something. I don't care but I think it is most of the problem with the hunching. But it definitely started recently, which is strange to me.

    How's it going PO peeps?

Glad you are starting to feel better mentally! It really doesn't sound like dumping to me although I have never had it, it doesn't sound like what I was told in my class. I guess it could be different for everyone though. I had bad diarrhea for about the first week or so after surgery too. I don't know what it was from because it was random but it passed.

    Back pain disappearing

That is great news! Pain is a B*tch! I notice since loosing a bunch of weight that I hunch over a lot. I told a friend that I think my upper body was being held up by my big stomach so I didn't need to use muscles to sit upright. haha I don't know if it is accurate or not, but what i do know is I hunch and don't like it. It starts hurting my lower back so I am constantly forcing myself to sit up straight.

    4 MONTH UPDATE

Hello everyone, it has been awhile since my last update so I guess it is about time. So, really no complaints. Life if good, everything is going well and I am chugging along at a very satisfying pace. I have lost 113 lbs total and 76 lbs since surgery! I measured myself for the first time since surgery the other day, really most of my body measurements are the same which I find a little weird after loosing 113lbs. I do carry most of my weight in my belly, and have small arms and small legs so I guess it makes sense. I lost a total of 4 inches all over my body PLUS 14 inches in my waist alone. No bad I suppose. I can eat anything except COLD chicken (I guess it is too dry cold) but it makes me sick every time I tried so I stopped. I also struggle a bit with actual soft bread, it doesn't make me sick but it hits me like a brick. Toast, crackers, wraps are all fine though. I eat a very balanced diet of everything as my dietician recommends while making sure I hit my protein and fluid goals. I usually don't have room for carbs once I eat the protein but every once in a while I get some in and I don't mind it. I have splurged a few times with treats, very minimal a few bites 2 or 3 times. Haven't had any issues with that and I have never dumped. The list of NSV's could go on for days. I played tennis the other day for the first time since loosing weight and the difference was unbelievable. I didn't even get out of breath while running back and forth across the court, because really we suck at tennis so there is a lot of running but it is fun. My knees don't grind, my feet and ankles no longer swell even after walking all day, I don't walk up the stairs all on one leg anymore, I FIT ON ROLLER COASTERS!, I walk around the water park in my bathing suit now. I bought a new bathing suit and feel good in it. I don't find excuses to drive place even when it is less than a mile away, I just naturally walk. (I live in the city) I went from a size 26 jeans to a size 18/20 depending on the cut. From a 4x tshirt to a 2x tshirt. My shoes are loose, probably don't need "wide width" anymore. Still working through my skinny days clothes so I have only bought 1 new outfit for a nice dinner because I don't have anything other than jeans, and mostly tshirts that fit now. By the end of the year I will need an entirely new wardrobe! I am looking forward to the shopping. (For once in my life!) I could go on and on but you get the hint! I hope everyone is well! ❤️

    Telling others

I told my boss as soon as I decided, BUT never told her it was WLS. I was also have esophagus repairs done, and a hernia fixed. So I told her that part, my appointments didn't make me miss work because they had early and later appointments. I only missed work for a few hours on 2 different occasions up till my surgery. I had lost a large amount of weight many times before so it is not that surprising for me to be loosing weight so I knew people who knew me long term wouldn't think much of it other than me just loosing weight AGAIN! Very few people in my life know, maybe 10? I don't honestly know if I am ashamed of it or just prefer privacy. I have lost 100+ lbs 4 other times in my life so I guess if people knew I had surgery they would be judgy and I don't need all that! Everyone I did tell was very supportive. Logical comments, like what about the risks? How does it effect you long term? Fair questions, nothing like "why would you do that" " just go on a diet".. etc. You have to do what you feel comfortable with; tell, don't tell. Whatever makes you happy!
  11. No reflux is WONDERFUL! Mine was so bad, sometimes my voice would be hoarse for days after a bad episode. My food issues have been VERY minimal, honestly I had a very smooth recovery and adjustment. I was sick once when I went on to soft foods, some pit beef meat hit me wrong and I was sick for the day. Otherwise the only other thing I found is cold chicken, I cannot tolerate at all. I can eat any type of chicken, cooked any way you can imagine but if I eat it cold it makes me sick. I guess it is too dry or something, I don't know I just don't do it anymore. haha Never dumped, WOOHOOO! I have had fried chicken a few times. Like 1 chicken tender in a pinch or something just to get some protein in. I also eat real sugar because artificial is not for me. I don't eat much anyway though. Always been an unsweetend beverage person. Diet soda (I know it has artificial sweetener, but I meant more to cook with or sugar free treats), not a juice person, unsweet teas..etc. I have had some treats, a few bites of ice cream. A few starburst here and there. Never had a problem but haven't pounded a pint of icecream like I used to. haha For the most part my diet is lean meats and veggies, a little fruits and carbs.

    I really hate stalls!!!!!

Stop weighing yourself everyday. I weigh myself once a week. Mondays, which was my surgery day. You could even weigh less if you wanted, everyone is different. I tried once a month but I couldn't wait that long. haha Once a week works well for me though.

    Activities for Exercise

If you have a buddy, I like to play tennis for fun and good exercise. Sometimes basketball. Really any sport that you find fun is good exercise and keeps you moving. I always wanted to be an avid runner but just cant. haha Even after loosing a ton of weight and being the most fit of my life I just CAN NOT RUN!
  16. Hello, I didn't have a revision but I choose Bypass due to already having severe GERD. My surgeon explained that it was very likely my GERD would remain the same if not worsen and that bypass would likely reduce or completely cure it. Almost 4 months out it seems to have CURED IT! I have had no signs of anything acid reflux/GERD related. I was on 2 prescriptions plus eating tums daily. I am off of ALL GERD medications and have not eaten a single tums since surgery. I am so pleased about that because it was miserable! As far as weight loss, I have lost 73 lbs since surgery in a little over 2.5 months. I am 6ft tall. Stats are on the side panel too if people set them up. Good luck- I hope your acid issues are resolved!
  17. You came to MD for the procedure or you live here now?

2 Weeks Post Op... Some issues?

Hello, I had the lump feeling in my throat for a few days. Mine was due to the esophagus repairs they had to do though, my surgeon even warned me about it when he checked on me in the hospital. Black and/or tar like stools are a legitimate sign of blood in your stool. It could be potentially serious and I recommend you contact your PCP or surgeon ASAP! Try mouthwash for the dry mouth, or sugar free mints/hard candy to suck on.

    ESG post diet

You will always loose weight with a calorie deficit. When you get to soft foods, and really for quite a while after that you will stay in a pretty large calorie deficit and continue to loose weight. As you get closer to your goal weight the calorie deficit lessons, and your weight loss will slow down. Don't worry, follow your plan and you will not gain weight.
