Food Before and After Photos
kcuster83 replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It looks like SO MUCH food on my tiny saucer, perspective is everything. 2.5 oz. New york strip with grilled onions, 1/8 cup cheese noodles made lighter, 3 brussel sprouts. 288 cals! -
I think just about everyone has a stall around 3/4 weeks but after that I think it is independent to the person. Myself, I had one around 3 weeks and haven't had any other stalls yet. I am 4 months post OP.

Putting on weight after 6 weeks?!!
kcuster83 replied to Lornapc's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just mean water weight, some people retain a lot of water weight. You can build recipes in the my fitness pal app too. Exactly how you make them and then you know exactly what you are eating. If you are not hitting protein and eating such low calories your body may be in starvation mode too. Try to focus on getting that protein in, it is important for lots of reasons. -
Putting on weight after 6 weeks?!!
kcuster83 replied to Lornapc's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You say "I must be under 700 calories" as if you don't know for sure?? I would highly recommending tracking your intake. People are usually surprised at how many calories they are actually eating when they are tracking it. Then you will know for sure what your calories are, if they are that low and you continue to gain reach out to your team. It may be water weight also, which will pass. -
Worried about the possibility of insurance denial?
kcuster83 replied to raspberrylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The way my process worked: You submitted a form/questionnaire to the center and if you met all of the requirements they sent you a "online seminar" link to take. On the form one of the questions or requirements was to call your insurance provider and make sure they covered bariatric surgeries and if the hospital was in your network for coverage. Once you completed the online seminar they sent you a "process approval" and gave you the information to call and schedule your first appointment. The first appointment was with the surgeon who went over the types of surgeries and risks and helped you make a decision as to if you wanted to proceed and with which surgery. If you wanted to proceed the bariatric coordinator came in and went over all the specific requirements based on which insurance provider I had. In addition to what the actual center required also. It was my understanding they did it this way so you weren't surprised to find out you weren't covered for whatever reason. I guess there is no reason for denial if you have met all of your insurance requirements. If you meet the requirements of your insurance, what reason would they have at that point to deny you the coverage? Insurance sucks though, so I guess you never know. I would think it is safe to say if you met their requirements you would be approved. -
Hello, I spent ALL of my free time reading through this forum and another one I found months before surgery. There is so much useful information out there. Good luck with your surgery!
-
I love mahi mahi, it is pretty much the only fish I eat. However, I cannot remember when I started eating it again post op. I believe it was when I transitioned back into the normal diet phase.
-
I assume you mean while you are going through the approval process? Or did you mean the actual pre-op diet? The pre-op diet your surgeon and/or dietician or nutritionist will give to you. If you are talking about just trying to make changes while going through the process: Biggest thing is portion control, read the package and eat the recommended serving size. As for "what foods" talk to your dietician or nutritionist at your clinic, I am sure they can help you learn a healthy lifestyle.

Learn from it and you can get back to where you want to me. You already took responsibility for it so you know you can fix it. I am rooting for you! Good luck.

I use my fitness pal too, I tried Baritastic and I felt like MFP was more user friendly. Plus, I have been using it for years before surgery so I have a lot of recipes saved. You can also customize MFP to your macro requirements on the free version, moreso on the pay version. I use the free version and it does everything I need it to. You may be able to customize Baritastic, but I never got that far before switching back to MFP.

Any one with worse mental health after surgery
kcuster83 replied to Stephanie howey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The narcolepsy may be worse because lack of calories? Regardless, I would speak with your psychologist ASAP, they may need to change up your medications after surgery. It is my understanding this has happened to other people. (I remember reading about it on here) Of course, I am assuming you take medications for your depression but if not maybe some are needed to help you? A blood sugar of 70 isn't a concerning low but you could let your Doctor know and he may have some insight. My blood sugar is naturally lower than normal. (in the 60-70 range with fasting) I was told 80-100 is normal. Good luck, please reach out to the appropriate doctors for help. I hope you feel relief soon! -

Sleeve or Bypass Regrets?
kcuster83 replied to maintenanceman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I too originally wanted the sleeve but because of having severe GERD my surgeon explained the risks and benefits of each pertaining to my GERD so I switched to Bypass. 4 months post op. ZERO regrets! No sign of GERD or any type of acid problems and I am off all GERD medications! -
I only take Bariatric Choice Once Daily Bariatric Multivitamin Capsule with 45 mg of Iron and Spring Valley Calcium Citrate Dietary Supplement, 600 mg. So far so good but I have only had my 3 month blood work and only 4 months post op.

Workout Partner or Workout advice
kcuster83 replied to carpeediem's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The machines at the gym do show you which areas of your body they target. If you have planet fitness, they have a 30 minute circuit and each station tells you what to do. These make it easier to figure things out without paying a trainer hundreds of dollars. And can help target all areas of your body. -
Cake, ice cream, pizza…farewell forever?
kcuster83 replied to Rockmantic78's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
AGREED! My dietician is the exact same. He made and posted a video in our support group a few weeks ago about this exact thing. No one is going to successfully live off of chicken and broccoli forever. The point is to learn moderation. He went on to talk about a patient that is 4 years post op and has maintained her weightloss and eats a regular ice cream sandwich every weekend for a treat. Because she does it once a week and has 1 rather than every day or having multiples. I still have the occasional treat but on a drastically lessor scale than before surgery. I don't use sugar free condiments because I barely use them anyway. You have to find what works for you, and the chicken and broccoli diet does not work for me. I have lost 100+ lbs multiple times this way, always gaining it back. I am committed to a normal healthy diet which includes everything and some things in moderation. Learning and maintaining portion sizes and continuing success. Good luck to us all! -
Maybe that is why your surgeon wasn't concerned. If it doesn't subside soon, give them another call. Hope you feel better.

That looks delicious. Those snap peas look to be cooked perfectly to my liking. YUM -
Yea, I bet. Did you try to google it and see if anything came up? I google everything, sometimes it is a bad thing. haha

Can't say I have ever heard of this. I didn't experience it.

Tell me something you wish you knew...
kcuster83 replied to SuziDavis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh man. I know few people who had WLS. I did MONTHS of reading and research. I am not sure there was anything I forgot to ask or wish I knew after surgery. I was crazy obsessed and prepared with gathering all the information I could. Good and bad. I would say the biggest thing for me is out all of 8 people I know who WLS really only 2 of them were successful. This made me second guess surgery for years. I have lost and gained over 100 lbs, 4 or 5 times in my life. I thought, why have surgery if I can't succeed and keep the weight off without it how will the surgery solve that problem? Clearly the problem was my eating habits that I could not maintain long term. Then some things hit me. 1) I need accountability! Like really bad, having to see a surgeon at least once a year for pretty much life provides that. (At least for me) 2) I lost weight by living off of chicken and broccoli with zero carbs and minimal calories, I was always hungry and always fighting the hunger to not eat. Not only is that not feasible life long but it is also extreme. The surgery would (did) reduce my stomach so less fills me up so I can eat less and not be starving all the time. 3) I am one dedicated b***h! When I put my mind to something there is nothing stopping me, i got this. I can do this, I just needed a little extra help! 4) I ALWAYS put everyone else first, F that. I am done with that, it was hard at first and now it is natural. I am always willing to help but if you want to go binge on a pint of ice cream, go ahead but I am not. If you want to sit on the couch and do nothing for days, go ahead but you are doing it alone. I am always here for my friends and family but if you can't support me you won't be hearing from me or seeing me much. 5) I am not everyone else. They failed because of them, I will succeed because of ME! I don't know what their issues where. I just saw what I saw. Maybe they didn't have support? Maybe they stopped trying, stopped caring? Maybe there is a medical reason? Who knows, it is not my business. What I do know is what I can do and will do. -
Congrats on your smooth recovery so far! PS: Those Bariatric Advantage chews are disgusting. Actually, i tried muleiple brands. They are are unbearable, for me anyway. I know some people like the Bariatric fusion brand. They were the best of the worse for me. I still couldn't stomach them daily. Luckily I was cleared for pills and large capsules at 2 weeks. Good luck, I hope you find something you like.
