    Marriage changes post op

I go in and out of phases with the shopping. I really don't WANT to shop because I know it won't fit for long. But all I have currently is Tshirts and jeans... Now that I fit more I want to wear more so it is hard to not buy something I would have liked and not fit 100 lbs ago. THE STRUGGLE IS REAL!
  2. GOOD LUCK! Sounds gross. I don't think I could do it. I love milk but couldn't handle the yogurt. I want to like it but just can't.

    Marriage changes post op

I have lost 100+ lbs previously (a few times) and there really wasn't any change in my relationship. Usually she looses weight with me so it kinda just works out. I do most of the cooking, so when you are eating what I am cooking you will naturally loose weight. Point is, I don't imagine much change in the relationship due to weight loss. Although, I have always been bigger even loosing 100+ lbs. So, if/when I actually get to my goal who knows what happens. She wants to drink and party all the time and I don't drink now, probably will some after a while but for now no. So I tend to sit there getting bored while we are out and shes getting drunk. Plus I have learned drunk people are really annoying when you are not drinking. I imagine long term this may cause some problems if we can't more equal on free time events, etc. However, every other time I lost a bunch of weight my labido has increased but not this time. I literally have no desire for anything sexual, AT ALL. I force myself to try to keep the peace and am not into it at all. It is crazy.
  4. Not good, malnutrition is nothing to mess with. Get with your team and insist they figure it out before you end up in the hospital with huge problems. Good luck!

    FREE STUFF

It drives me nuts to throw things away. I donate what I can and try to find other people who can use the items. I am now 6 trash bags deep into clothing donations! So, I have some bariatric "liquid/drinkable" vitamins that I liked when I tried before surgery but could not stomach after surgery. I am in Baltimore MD, so if you are local I will gladly pass them along to anyone who wants them FOR FREE! If you are not local and are willing to pay the shipping expenses then I will also ship them. I have single serving packets of the raspberry lemonade. I also have 1 unopened tub of the 4 in 1 chocolate shake mix and 1 OPENED tub. Both pictured below. If anyone is interested in any of them please let me know, I would hate to throw them away! BOTH WERE APPROVED BY MY BARIATRIC TEAM!
  6. Liquid and chewable are all horrible. I could not deal with it. I worked with my team and they luckily cleared me to take the capsules at my 2 week follow up as long as I could handle them. Luckily I could. "Celebrate" has a drink mix, the raspberry lemonade is not horrible but I still couldn't drink it even when adding extra water to thin it out. They all just have a horrible aftertaste to me, I can't get past it. Speaking of which, I have random stuff that I don't use and would love to just give to someone if they want to try it. I have these in single serve packs. I also have the same brand "4 in 1" chocolate shakes. I open bucket and i unopened bucket. Both approved by my team to use post op.

Gonna make sure I follow the rules

Same here, i have always naturally been a slower eater most of the time but not as slow as they recommend. Sometimes I find myself scarfing down food and it doesn't effect me physically. I just happen to catch myself and slow back down.

    Food intolerance after wls

I am lucky or unlucky (how ever you prefer to see it) to be able to tolerance pretty much everything I have tried so far. I can't eat cold chicken and really that is just about it. Bread sometimes sits very heavy and other times is fine. I don't eat it much so not too worried about it either way.

What are some of your Vegan proteins? I am not a huge meat fan so always looking for new ideas for protein.

I cheated on my Pre op

There was another woman on here that she was opened up and her liver was still too large and her surgeon could not do her surgery so she was closed up. All that for nothing. Keep that in mind next time you want to cheat. Thinking about how horrible it would be to be put under and cut up all for nothing and have to go thru this pre-op process again! PS: Not being rude by any means, just thought it might help you stay focused.
  11. I worked out with a trainer last time I "lost weight on my own" he also said I wasn't eating enough at that time(600-900 cal a day. Had me increase to 1200 cal. a day and I started loosing like crazy. My understanding is when you work out really hard and don't eat enough to feed your body it goes into starvation mode and stores everything it can.

  13. I was told to cut my blood pressure meds in half because my blood pressure has dropped too low. WOOHOO! I am half of a pill away from being off ALL meds!

    Check insurance approval

Yes you can call and ask anything about your coverage. Mine (Cigna) also sent a letter of approval.
  15. My surgeon doesn't even offer the lap band. Sleeve, Bypass and DS were my only options with him.

    Best Protein Shake,?

Ready made ones for me are Premier protein, they have ton's of flavors. But, before surgery I liked a few different flavors and after surgery I seem to only like the chocolate. They all have the same consistency and texture but the taste now taste chemically. Also, Fairlife shakes. I actually don't prefer the chocolate but everyone else raves about it. Strawberry is my favorite by far and the caramel is good mixed with 8oz of caffeine free black coffee. Fairlife are impossible to find around me now so I mainly drink the premier. Both 30g protein Powders, I feel like never mix properly and always taste gritty. I even have a real blender to mix them and still odd texture for me. I do however like the Unjury brand powder, it mixes very well. I prefer the convenience of the premade shakes though. I do like how you can get more creative with the powders though, so I keep it on hand to change things up a bit when needed. My favorite is sugar free lemonade mixed with strawberry Unjury powder. I use about 10 oz. of lemonade when I make them and it thins them out so it is like having a drink rather than a thicker shake. 20g protein per scoop
  17. I never sweat anymore. It is kind of weird, I have never been a huge sweater but now it's never. I had to prepare a hall for a Celebration of Life. 32 Steps, outside in 100* heat. Carried stuff up and down, heavy stuff. cases of sodas/water, platters of foods, all kinda of stuff never once needed a break. Never got too tired, didn't even really loose my breath. I lost count at 20 trips between carrying things in and then out at the end. The next day, my knees didn't hurt. Nothing hurt, I couldn't even tell I went up and down those stairs so much!

    Gallbladder

Yea, it doesn't seem this is uncommon. I asked my surgeon about just snatching it while he was there so I didn't have to worry about another surgery. haha He said, only if I had a history of gallstones pre-op. Otherwise it stays. I didn't so it stayed. 4 months post op, no issues so far. 🤞

    Pre Op Diet Concerns

My team actually told us to start taking the multivitamin and calcium when we started a pre-op diet but to NOT take it the 2 days before surgery. I would still reach out to your team as others have said. Just get their input, they may change your pre-op diet a little bit to help. My cousins GF was having major sugar drops during her pre-op diet to the point she was passing out. They actually allowed her 2oz of OJ twice a day to maintain as needed.

Do I have to eat ?

HAHA I feel the same way most of them time. I just have a routine and force it. But sometimes it is miserable because when I don't want to eat, nothing tastes good and I am like gagging it down. I just keep telling myself to be grateful to not be hungry because some people wake up hungry and struggle like crazy. My dietician says to take this time to establish the good eating habits so when my hunger comes back, I will be prepared and already have my body trained.

    Cholesterol

Was your Cholesterol high before surgery? Weird for it go up after surgery. I will say fish oil supplements work wonders for lowering Cholesterol though. You can see if you can try that before meds? I know 2 people who control it completely with fish oil and still don't even really watch what they eat.

    Gallbladder

Whew! Medications in the US are ridiculous! Especially the really important ones, like that keep you alive. But yet, pain meds etc. are pennies. That is all I will say, before I get on a serious rant! Luckily my surgery was covered by insurance so I hit my MAX out of pocket and I don't pay anything for the rest of the year. For meds, copays or appointments. Even with insurance I have a 7,000 bill I am chiseling away at.

    Gallbladder

My surgeon automatically puts us on Gallbladder medication to help prevent gall stones while going through rapid weight loss. I am on it for 6 months post-op. He says your gallbladder has a hard time keeping up with the rapid weight loss (surgery or not) and gall stones can form causes you to have to have your gallbladder removed.

Starting Solid Food- where to begin?

Hello, When I started back to solids, I still ate all the soft foods and introduced one solid food at a time so I knew exactly what I couldn't tolerate if it came up. I wasn't allowed grilled chicken until solids, at the soft food stage we were told to cook chicken in the slow cooker so it was fall apart tender and more juicy. So, I actually started with a baked chicken breast. Then went on to cooking chicken all kinds of ways, included grilled. I then went to turkey burgers, still kinda soft but more solid than ground up meat. All that was going well so I just tried everything one at a time and always at home in case I got sick. Baked pork chops, pork tenderloin, turkey and regular Italian sausages. We were told to try steak last because it tends to be the hardest to digest. So I actually didn't try steak until about 3 months post op, and it was sliced steak for kinda what you get on a cheese steak sub. But, lean steak we sliced and made at home. I tolerated that fine, twice so just yesterday (4 months post op) I ate some New York strip steak from the grill which also went fine. I think at this point I have tried and tolerate all the meats just fine but I can't eat COLD chicken, makes me sick every time. I think it probably is too dry when cold. I am not low carb per my bariatric Dietician. He stresses a balanced diet of everything while focusing on protein. Always eat the protein first. I typically fill up so my normal is about 40-60g carbs a day but there are some days I have more. I bring this up, because pizza. I have made my own at home, protein packed and did well. Also had take out pizza and ate the topping first and only a few bites of the crust before being full. I can't seem to eat "soft" breads, they don't make me sick but hit me like a bolder in my stomach and gives me a stomach ache. I can eat it toasted, or crackers, wraps. Anything but the normal soft breads. I eat all the veggies! I love salad and tolerate it fine. Again, started with eating 1 veggie at a time rather than a bowl of mixed veggies in a salad. To know where the issue was if I had any. I did not, and EAT ALL THE VEGGIES! I have always been a huge veggie person, moreso than fruits. Never a big fruit person, strawberries, watermelon are my go to but I have actually only had watermelon since surgery. I went kinda deep but I hope this helps.
  25. Definitely. We rent pontoon boats every once in a blue moon and that's a nice day out on the water. I love it. We keep talking about getting a boat, but live in the city and would need to pay to dock it. More importantly we are so busy most of the time, we just haven't been able to justify the purchase for how much use we would actually get out of it.
