    7 Months Post-Op

Congratulations on your weight loss! Sorry you have to have a revision. I guess all surgeries come with risks, it could be worse, try to stay positive. Hope you feel better soon!

3 months post VSG and NOTHING

If you weigh/measure the food before you start then weigh/measure it when you finish you can figure out how much you ate. You may not be eating enough if you are really eating 2/3 bites and that's it. If you are not eating your body will go into starvation mode and store everything rather than burning it. Same with the protein, you need to hit that goal so you can nourish your body and it doesn't starve. Maybe try prepping a few days of meals at a time so you don't have to keep measuring your foods, you will just know what it is and can reuse the data. It may make it less cumbersome for you that way? It really is amazing how people "think" they are eating in comparison to how they are actually eating. Tracking is key here, even just until you get the hang of it. Once I decided to have WLS I had my first dietician apt and at that moment started tracking without any change. I was disgusted to see how many calories and fat I was eating in a day. Wondering why I am so fat when I don't really eat that much. I was also one of those "eat 3000 calories once a day" type of people rather than 3 balanced meals. All of these things effect weight loss and/or gain. But when it really comes down to it, it is the calorie deficit that forces weight loss.

Seems strange. What did your nutritionist say? Are you tracking your food, know exactly how many calories you are taking in? Three months out, why are you only getting 30g of protein a day? How is your fluid intake? My plan allows me all foods also. My dietician stresses a balanced diet with some thing in moderation. Always focus on protein and veggies first and then add some carbs if I can. I track every single thing including fluids to make sure I am staying within my allowed calories/macros and hitting my goals.

    It's Skinny Pasta

I eat a few bites of noodles every once in a while. I might have to check these out. I think right now I don't eat them enough to matter about the calories. haha Everything works for every one differently. You do you, if it works for you fantastic!

Glad you like them after that commitment. hehe

    Vitmans

Agreed, your team should be telling you which vitamins you will need to take. Then, adjusting based on your blood work results. I get my multivitamin from Amazon and my Calcium from Walmart. (That is all I take) But there are tons of places, just google "bariatric vitamins". I can't say I have ever seen them at my pharmacy though but never looked VERY hard or asked.

    Food question

I don't know exactly when but I know for a fact it was after 6 weeks. At 6 weeks is when I was easing back into a normal diet. I made nachos with them, ground taco meat, cheese and hot sauce. I ate 3 and was full. haha PS: I don't like them. The after taste is weird. Popcorners flex protein chips are way better. (IMO) I never really cooked with butter and oil. I might buy butter once a year and have had the same bottle of olive oil forever. Like a few years. I think I used butter/oil for the first time after 6 weeks too, just because that was when I started cooking "normal" foods again.
  8. Just try tiny bites of very soft meats and chew to an oblivion. Take 1 bite and wait a few minutes and see how it feels before continuing. Ground meat (turkey or beef) is easy and where I started. It is already almost pureed and then chewed to meat pudding consistency. haha Good luck, you got it!

    Fluid Intake

I have not had any problems with getting in my fluids. I get dehydrated VERY quickly so I was very focused on making the effort. Now (4 months post op) it is natural and basically back to normal. I can drink normal, large amounts, I would say I even chug. Every once in a blue moon it hits heavy if I chug too fast but the feeling goes away in a minute or 2 so still not an issue. I average 70oz of WATER a day, plus my daily shake and if I have something else like tea or something. I don't prefer fake sugar either, but luckily I like unsweet tea and use shakes to flavor decaf coffee now. I am not even much of a coffee drinker. I like the flavor of coffee, so before surgery those sugary coffee drinks, coffee flavored icecream and stuff like that. Now, I just take black coffee with caramel protein drinks and it is just as good to me. When I first came home from surgery, they gave me a bunch of 1 oz. cups and said I need to get 2/3 drinks out of each cup and work my way up. I would fill them and start a tally to keep track. Each day I made a point to beat yesterdays tally until I hit my goal. It made me focused and made it easy to hit the goal but I was definitely drinking ALL DAY LONG. Maybe try something like that to keep you moving forward, you can also buy the hydration additives I mentioned. I don't know if they have artificial sweeteners though. Also, keep in mind the additives don't allow you to drink less water, it just helps your body absorb the water better.
  10. Hmmmm, brain storm time. No meat for 6 weeks? Never heard that one before. Whew. Snacks: Yogurts, cheeses, hard boil eggs? That's about the only thing I can think of that would travel. You could order soups and not eat certain things depending on what is in the soup? Charcuterie appetizer and your family could eat the things that you can't? Egg salad, don't eat the bread? Or get crackers if you are allowed. I ate taco bell refried beans and black beans a few times. That's about all I can think of, I was allowed meat at the pureed stage (pureed obviously). It is also so close to allowing the meat, maybe reach out to your team and see if you could try softer meats a few days early? That would REALLY open up your options. PS: I don't care for the quest chips but a lot of people do so I hope you are one of them who like them after taking that plunge. I like the popcorners flex protein chips the best. Good luck and safe travels!

    Monthly weigh in and measurements

My surgeon gave me a graph based on my height and surgery weight. Showing how I should drop weight through the first year (based on national averages). It has me at 20lbs for the first 3 months, then around 15 lbs until 7 months and then it hangs out around 10 lbs a month for the rest of the year. At 3 months it has me at -64.1 lbs, at my 3 month follow up I was -77 lbs! Everyone is different. I have really good weeks and very low weeks. But I only weigh on Mondays which was my surgery day. I like the graph just to give me an idea. I also use it as personal "challenge" to stay ahead of my graph even if just by 1 lb. Keeps me focused!

    Full liquids - Veggie Soup

I was allowed tomato soup or soup base as long as I could tolerate it. I had tomato soup many times during my liquid phase. With that being said, you should check with your team since your plane says no. Just ask them if you can try a small amount and see how you do. Wouldn't hurt to ask and hopefully it will work out in your favor.
  13. I had constipation for the first few days, then once I got through that i had HORRIBLE diarrhea for about 2 weeks. Maybe not as bad as you describe, but every time I "ate" or drank a shake I was in the bathroom within 30 minutes. After that, I am as normal as I can imagine (after 10++ years of constipation issues). I go just about daily and I do not take ANY supplements to help.
  14. Hello and congratulations on your approval! The best advise I can give is have patience and just ride the weight loss train as it goes. Don't compare yourself to others, just follow your plan and do what you need to and the results will prove themselves!

    Hidden triggers

It doesn't trigger me either. Gives me ideas. I like watching cooking shows and competitions. Right now I am binging The great food truck race. haha

    Hidden triggers

I only ever had one food delivery APP on my phone. Still have it but haven't used it since before surgery.

    One Week Until Surgery

WOOHOO! Your time has come. My pre-op diet went well, was surprisingly easy for me, thankfully. Time flew by but I was still counting down and it was all I talked about. My surgery was also delayed the morning of because the one before me took way longer than expected. I was so ready but was not nervous at all. Pure excitement. About 4 and half months post op now and it is going great! No complaints and no regrets.
  18. Yep, everyone I know who quit did exactly what they mentioned above. Slowly decrease the nicotine until they were vaping/smoking with zero nicotine and then even slowly stopped that. I have never smoked, so I only know what my friends/family have done. I wish you the best, you can do it!
  19. Hmmm, I use the slotted hangers to hold my shirts too. BUT, I never really connected the dots that it is because my shirts were so big. I guess I never really thought about it at all, assuming because most of them are V-necks or wide necks. (Not regular t-shirt neck) Fun, thanks for pointing it out and making me aware.

    Marriage changes post op

Wow! That's amazing. 47 years! GOOD FOR YOU BOTH!
  21. My max out of pocket is $6500. I basically had to pay just about 6500 because I had my surgery early in the year and hadn't used my insurance too much yet.
  22. Yea, and the hospital wants $460 a month for zero interest payments. I can use my CC and get a bunch of points and just make those payments to them and pay it off faster.
  23. They wanted a portion of it, I think they asked for like $3000 up front. But I explained that I would be paying more than that because of my "max out of pocket" with my insurance and wanted to pay everything at once. So, I didn't actually pay anything up front.
  24. I was "asked" to pay before hand but I told them I wanted to make one large payment so I could take advantage of a deal my CC was offering. The higher amount the longer the super low interest special. They did not argue and just said ok. By the time I got the bill, the "interest special offer" was over. HAHA! b*****s!

    Sleeve Post-Op Calorie Intake

Same answers over and over, haha Every plan is different. Mine was: 2 weeks, liquids calories or not relevant and to focus on fluid and protein 2 weeks purred, 400-600 cal a day 2 weeks soft foods, 600-800 cal a day Once I got through the first 6 weeks, slowly reintroduced a "normal" balanced diet at 800-1000 cal a day until I hit maintenance. For the most part I am around 700-800 cal a day and hit 1000 if I feel snacky but make sure I stay within my plan limits. (Little over 4 months post op)
