    Liquid Diet

I was only on a clear liquid diet 1 day after surgery, then a full liquid diet for 2 weeks. I most had protein shakes and protein Gatorade. But, I would also buy soups and strain them because the bought broth was too bland. I would drink the soup broth and other people would eat the rest. I also had a few yogurts but I am not a big fan of yogurt so maybe 2 or 3 times in 2 weeks. So yea, I was very focused on hitting protein and fluids so mainly stuck with the shakes and Gatorade protein drinks.

I record weekly, sometimes I sneak a peak mid-week though. haha Only record Monday morning weights though.

    Shingles

I wouldn't assume shingles. I would contact your doctor and have that verified and treated accordingly. Especially since your surgery is not local.

    Stalls and weight gain

I understand. We have all been through it and that is why we are all here, in some form or another. Don't panic, if you have a calorie deficit you WILL loose weight. Stalls and fluctuation are common and going to happen. Just follow your plan and keep chugging along and you will see the change.

    Stalls and weight gain

It is not "weight gain" it is weight fluctuation. Like you said, people fluctuate. Yesterday, you may have been retaining less water. Today you might be retaining more. It really is best not to weigh yourself everyday, it will drive you mad. But, if you do. Try to weigh yourself at the same time everyday. I can and have gained 10 lbs from morning to evening because I was so swelled up and had so much water retention. I can visually see it in my ankles and legs. It doesn't really happen that drastically now that I have lost quite a bit of weight but it still happens.
  8. I carry MOST of my weight in my abdomen. So naturally I lost the most there, I have always had smaller legs and arms. last time I measured I was 3 months post op and had lost 16 or 17 inches in my waist alone but basically stayed the same within 1/2 inch every where else. My face has also changed a lot, you can see my jaw line now. (slightly, but it is still there) Anyway, overall definitely my stomach/waist.

    High protein snacks

yea, the no sugar part is why I assume most people eat the sugar free. Wise decision, Diabetes is nothing to play with.
  10. YES! Man, GERD is the worse thing I have ever dealt with. 2 prescriptions and OTC antacids still had regular issues! Sometimes it was so bad my voice would be hoarse for days. I am soooo relieved that Bypass has since cured mine. Of all meds and no signs of it. WHEW
  11. I had severe GERD post op, was on famotidine, omeprazole and still needed OTC antacids like tums or rolaids. After surgery I had to crush all pills or have a liquid form. At the hospital they were only giving me the famotidine crushed up. When I got home I I never restarted the omeprazole because (much to my surprise) I wasn't having symptoms so I rolled with it. At my 1 week follow up he said I had to stay on the famotidine for 2 months regardless of symptoms because it helps reduce acids and help the stomach heal. So, at my 2 month follow up he asked me if I was having any symptoms of GERD/reflux. I wasn't (SUPER EXCITING for me because before surgery mine was horrible) so he said I can stop all reflux /antacid meds as long as my PCP was ok with it because he was technically the prescribing doctor. Anyway, I am stubborn and didn't even ask I just stopped them. 5 months later still no GERD/reflux at all. YAY YAY CELEBRATE! It is wonderful!

Will I ever be hungry again???

I am 5 months post-op and still NEVER hungry. It is weird, but relieving. I know it is making this process easier and I appreciate that. But also weird in the way that we are always told not to eat if we aren't hungry but that is not my lift. Just eat to hit my goals and nourish my body. It is a nice change from just over eating for fun basically. My team Dietician makes it clear that your hunger will come back with a vengeance and to take this time to train your brain for new eating habits while it is easier. Once it comes back it will be easier to get our mind and body on the same page.

Is it loose skin or fat?

The only real way is to have a body fat scan. My first go round at loosing weight with diet and exercise I lost 140 lbs and rushed into skin removal. I had a TON, it hung so low. If I laid it flat it was almost 11 inches! Long story short, it was only 7 lbs when it was removed..bummer.

    Was my surgery successful?

I hear a lot about people being so hungry, no one knows if it is head hunger or real hunger but them. Each person has to figure that out on their own. I am so grateful and lucky to not be hungry EVER. I am 5 months post op and I have yet to feel hungry. I just eat my 3 meals because I need to. My Dietician warned me it would definitely come back at some point and to use this time to maintain better eating habits. Eating 3 spaced out meals a day and a snack if needed. Then when hunger comes back, my mind and body are on the same page.

    Under Boob rash

My wife gets this because she has giant boobs. She swears by gold bond powder. Maybe give it a try?

    High protein snacks

They do not. lol I tried them before surgery. And, for being sugar free the calories on a lot of these candies are the same if not more. Drives me nuts. I would rather just learn to eat the real thing while focusing on moderation and self control.

    Vitamin Help

Same here, I don't know why they can't make bariatric chewable vitamins better. It is crazy, regular vitamins are fine... makes no sense. Regardless, my team wasn't too worried about me missing them in the first 2 weeks and then cleared me to take capsules at my 2 week follow up. They did explain that if I struggled with the capsules to reach out because then it becomes more serious. Luckily I have been perfectly fine with capsules and pills. Whew. Reach out to your team, maybe they can help or suggest something. Also, there are different brands you could try. I hated them all though, couldn't do it.

    Men are so frustrating!!!!

Oh my. I feel this is my soul right now. I feel for you. I have been married for 8 years (together for 18 years) cause I'm gay and we got married when it became legal. Anyway, woman are frustrating too. haha But I feel some of your points. We both work, great jobs make about the same money. I do most of the house work and ALL of the shopping. She helps with laundry, usually because she wants to wear something that is dirty. And, will help when I specifically ask her to do a task. Sometimes b*****s and whines about it but does it. I feel like the connection is dwindling and I actually hate it. I want a new life, a new start and she wants the same thing we have had for 18 years. We need to find a mutual / median zone before everything falls apart! If you wanna talk or just share bitchy stuff, feel free to message me.
  20. WOW. All I can say is WOW. ***In a VERY positive way*** First: Absolutely awesome you were able to donate a kidney period, but to your daughter is amazing. Good for you, good for her! So glad to hear she is doing well! Second: Good for you killin your weight loss journey! You have to end where it makes you happy. Forget the numbers, the recommendation charts etc. Just be happy and healthy! Third: I love hearing stories where someone's spouse took the WLS plunge. Even better when they are having a great experience. I would love to be going through this with someone at the same time. Common goals, common life style. Seems good to me. Again. CONGRATULATIONS!
  21. Hmmm, I have Cigna insurance and I had a 4 month pre-op process. Classes, appointments, etc.

    “Stuck” Sensation?

Be persistent. We know our bodies better than anyone else. If the Gas-X isn't helping at all, call back.
  23. Congratulations! It is crazy the change we see in ourselves when we do a side by side picture.

    Phobias since surgery

Sorry you are having these feelings. Have you ever had a surgery before? I feel like people who never have had any type of surgeries are more paranoid about everything related to surgery. My sister in law actually started having panic attacks after she had endometriosis treatment, a very mild surgery. They had to prescribe her anxiety meds but it eventually passed after a few weeks. Just try to relax, trust me (us) if something is wrong you will know it. Otherwise, give your body time to heal, follow your plan and listen to your team. I hope this is short term lived for you as well, our minds really know how to play games on us!
  25. Every surgeons regiments are different. A lot of people are prescribed blood thinners, I was not. I was given Pepcid (which I guess is a PPI) but only had to take it for 30 days. I honestly don't know if that is the surgeons normal or because of my extensive history with GERD. Otherwise, I was only given Ursodiol for helping to prevent Gallstones which I am on for 6 months.
