Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first

I was just talking about all the hangers we have too, literally half way of the length of my closet pole is ALL HANGERS! -
Just curious
kcuster83 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keto is HIGH fat, low carbs and moderate protein. Bariatric is HIGH protein, and from there depends on the surgery team. Some are low carb/sugar low fat. Others are a BALANCED low fat/low sugar diet. Mine is VERY balanced, I have never heard anyone on my team tell us we can't have carbs. Through all the classes, appointments and Nutritionists follow ups. They all say the same thing, balanced diet while making sure we get our protein first and then veggies, if you want or have "room" then have the carb. Understand this is only my opinion: I do not think it is realistic to think someone is going to stay "keto" or "extremely low carb" for the rest of their life. Isn't that how we all YO-YO? By doing extreme diets that we realistically cannot maintain long term? I have lost 100+ lbs 4 different times. (I know, ridiculous) The last time I even had skin removal surgery and still gained it back because eating chicken and broccoli every single day was not realistic! This is what convinced me to finally have WLS. I went through the classes for pre-op still hesitant to have WLS and just figured what do I have to loose by learning more about it in a formal manor. I learned that while some things we might not be able to eat, there was really not the restriction of foods like I heard by travel of words. Even on my worst days, I haven't been even able to eat more than 1200 calories. it really is the restriction of capacity that makes the HUGE difference from a diet to WLS. Eating healthy (most of the time) was never a problem for me. My problem was ALWAYS being hungry, eating 3 servings of chicken rather than 1. Eating 3/4 slices of pizza rather than a half a of slice without eating the outside crust. Again, my opinion and what works for me may not work for you or the next person. I think we all have to figure out what works for us and go from there. Everyone is so different and every bariatric team/center is just as different. I had this surgery so I can eat like a normal person and not like a 400 lb person. I am almost 6 months post op and when I eat around people, rarely does anyone notice my diet being different than their own. I think maybe 3 times someone (who doesn't know I had WLS) has commented about what I was eating. You do you girl, work with your team. Find out what works best for you and run with it! Modify it as you go if needed. We are all on the a different version of the same journey. We got this!! (Sorry for my long post, I got carried away) -
My Chinese go to is Spicy chicken and veggies: grilled chicken breast with peppers onions mushrooms and zucchini in a thin spicy sauce. You can skip the noodles and/or rice is you prefer. (I am allowed carbs, I might take 1 or 2 bites of rice but mainly eat the chicken and veggies.) The sauce is thin (no starch)and it is about 200 cals and 6 carbs for a 4oz serving without rice. Although I will say, not all Chinese places have this but I found it by chance and now I go to the same place. Italian: Some places will allow you to substitute broccoli for the noodles in a pasta dish. I don't do a lot of Italian but I have and got a salad, also had Lasagna and just pulled the noodles out. If I can't find something that fits my diet, I will do a burger patty without bread or a side salad and a chicken breast. Pretty much everywhere has burgers, chicken and salad.

Is this normal? Does it go away?
kcuster83 replied to Miimii_Roci274's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Eat mixed fresh veggies with dressing and no lettuce. Still salad, just no lettuce and just as good! -
Same here. Pre -surgery I was on this and swelled up so bad it hurt and my ankles and feel throbbed. Once he took me off of it, it got better but i still swelled up on hot days and when walking around a lot. It stopped IMMEDIATELY after surgery, it was weird. (Still on 1 BP med) now on no meds and my feet and ankles still have no swelling. Even after walking around an amusement park for 8 hours!

How much walking did you do?
kcuster83 replied to loli_lotus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I mean, I would just follow what your team says. Mine just said walk regularly throughout the day. I basically walked to get my own everything (drinks, broth, etc.) to the bathroom. Every once in a while, likely about every hour or two I would walk the length of my house a few times, more trips as it went. After a few days we went to the field and walked around the track. I would get tired quick so took breaks and walked longer each time. Then basically back to normal. I hate walking, it is SO BORING for me. I do make a point to walk more but not like formal exercise or on the tread mill or anything like that. -
Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
kcuster83 replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well, it is not weird but definitely a NSV. Yesterday I went through my clothes for the 6th time! I have now donated 10 trash bags of clothes!!! 🤯 I am in a 16/18 from a 24/26, and officially in my smallest size of stashed "skinny clothes". -
Eating carbs (pasta, rice, or bread )
kcuster83 replied to New_me_2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
haha I don't prefer them as a "wrap" I agree with the odd rubbery texture. But, I use them in lasagna in place of noodles and you don't notice the texture. Works perfectly! -
Fixing hiatal hernia after vsg
kcuster83 replied to ClareLynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Recovery is close to the same as after WLS. Limited liquid/soft diet etc. Usually not as long or "strict". Same little incisions but sometimes 1 up a little higher. I actually had a MAJOR HH but had it fixed during my bypass surgery. I only know the details because my surgeon discussed them with me during an appointment. -
Burning Mouth Syndrome
kcuster83 replied to bmorin09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never even heard of this, when I saw this post I looked it up. Goodness, this sounds miserable! If you haven't I would definitely go to the doctor and confirm and see if there is any treatments. I hope you feel better soon! -
Stalled at only 2 weeks post-op
kcuster83 replied to AliceFD's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Everyone does. Just keep going. -
When I first started out I just watched the clock. Took a bite every 1 minute and chewed at least 30 times. Now, it is just kind of natural and I don't need to watch the clock. I have caught myself eating a little faster a few times and slow back down but nothing serious and it didn't effect me. I still chew, a lot. I don't necessarily count every bite but i chew till mush.

Dizziness and fainting 10 weeks post op
kcuster83 replied to Ryan Witner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been having this lately. I haven't actually passed out though, but came VERY close a few times. I went to my PCP, blood pressure drops are very common after WLS and your body should regulate. Of course, different people, different problems and different resolutions. Definitely talk to your doctor and/or surgeon. Hope you feel better soon, I know how miserable this is! -
uh oh! For what I hear your period can go crazy from all the hormone change in your body but I usually hear people have it too long or it doesn't stop. I can't actually think of anyone talking about missing it. Pregnancy test?😳

6 months post sleeve to bypass revision and dealing with DUMPING
kcuster83 replied to gabbykittyvsg's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hmm, I found myself faint at times and wondered if it could be dumping. Then it happened without eating. Also, I found out my blood pressure was plummeting. So far I don't seem to dump, luckily... or maybe not lucky. haha. -

kcuster83 replied to MommaJo1969's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are going to Florid/Disney next month with friends and my God daughter. I am not too worried about the foods, but my friends are thin and eat out all the time. So we shall see how it works out. I plan to stay as close to my normal diet as possible. Good luck to us! -
Nervous on vacation!!!! Help!!!
kcuster83 replied to MommaJo1969's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I have seen on menus saying no sharing meals. I don't really know why either, I guess they want more money. haha I always tip based on the cost of 2 meals though, I am a generous tipper anyway but I would basically add the cost of whatever the meal was, double it and tip based on that. -
Nervous on vacation!!!! Help!!!
kcuster83 replied to MommaJo1969's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YES! I think a lot of people on here can relate to wasting too much food. Partly because we still think we eat like we used to and partly because portions are just so damn big! I try to share a meal, I have even just had a few bites of multiple peoples food too. Most places don't let adults order from the kids menu around me. Chipotle does, but it is still a lot of food and I end up wasting half or someone else eats it. I also try to order something I know I will like as leftovers and take it for lunch the next day or 2. I know this doesn't help while you are on vacation so I would say to try to share a meal with someone you are with. Leftovers on vacation almost always go in the trash. (At least for me) -
Surgery the end of this month!

Most people get nervous. Don't worry, it is absolutely worth it. I have no regrets and wish I had done it sooner.
