Individual powdered shake recommendations?
kcuster83 replied to Sigh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most protein companies offer "sample" servings. *Individually packed servings* Some even offer 'sample packs" with a bunch of different flavors. If you have a brand you like, just look up their website and you will find them. Or, even just google " protein powder variety pack" or something like that and I am sure you will find something. I have used Unjury, which I know sell them. That is the only one I can think of off the top of my head right now though. -
Eating and drinking at same time.
kcuster83 replied to Happy with two's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello. Really, you aren't supposed to for the rest of your life. -
I tolerate carbonation just fine. I just can't chug it like I can water. PS: It is not off limits in my plan. Just as tolerated and in moderation like everything else.

PROTIEN BARS AND YOUR PLAN
kcuster83 replied to heatherdbby's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I tend to like quest the most too. Although, I try all kinds of different ones just to see if I find something equal or better. -
I am not a huge coffee drinker and only like it cold. I am more of a "coffee drink" type of person. Yanno, those super sweet decadent high calorie, tons of sugary coffee FLAVORED drinks (basically desserts)? So now after surgery, I just add coffee to caramel shakes to get that "coffee drink" fix. Tons of people use sugar free creamers, and sugar free flavors though. I haven't found a flavor syrup that doesn't taste like pure chemicals so I stopped wasting my money and just do the shakes.

PROTIEN BARS AND YOUR PLAN

Maybe but 20 carbs isn't really a lot unless you are extreme low carb/keto like. PS: I have never dumped and I have definitely pushed it. (Not perfect) haha -
PROTIEN BARS AND YOUR PLAN
kcuster83 replied to heatherdbby's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
haha, don't let it bother you. Does your team require super low carb? That may be why? They usually have around 20 carbs per bar? Just throwing it out there, my team does not require low carb. We are allowed to eat anything (in moderation) and just being sure to eat protein first. -

PROTIEN BARS AND YOUR PLAN
kcuster83 replied to heatherdbby's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Weird. I have never heard this one. Most of them prefer you get your protein and nutrition from whole foods. Protein bars are processed "fake" food. They allow you to have protein bars, but they don't "require" it. I eat them occasionally. Wait, or am I reading this wrong? Are you saying you HAVE to eat a protein bar or that IF you do, it is only a half at a time? -

High Protein Alternatives - Cereal, Chips, etc.
kcuster83 replied to BrigitteLM's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hello, welcome to the Bari world! You will learn very quickly that everyone has their opinion about foods/shakes. Not only how something taste but also their opinion on it's value to your diet. (Is it healthy? Should you eat it? Don''t eat carbs.. do eat carbs.. etc.) I always say, follow YOUR teams/Dieticians plan! Period. You trusted them with your life (literally) so you should trust them in your recovery and your WL process. Every team is different, different rules, different guidelines, everything. I tried a bunch of different "alternative" foods. Some are ok, most I didn't prefer. I find it easy to hit my protein goals, so I don't need to make sure EVERY single item of food has protein. I still drink shakes every day for breakfast but that is mainly because I am not a morning person and don't like to eat in the mornings. Otherwise most of my nutrition is from whole foods. My point is, if I feel like I really want "need" some chips, I just eat a few regular ones. I eat regular cereal (usually raisin bran) with fairlife milk. With that being said I reiterate ALL PLANS ARE DIFFERENT. I am "allowed" anything in moderation as long as I am hitting my protein/fluid/ WL goals. My Dietician says "you shouldn't feel like you are on a diet for the rest of your life, you should modify your eating habits to gain a healthy life and learn moderation". Now, to actually answer your questions. My opinions: Quest chips: They are ok, the taste is good but the texture is a little weird to me. They feel powdery to me and do not hold up to any type of dipping or even to use as nachos. Protein cereal: I have not specifically tried the magic spoon brand but have tried a few others. I hated them ALL. haha Literally hated them, brought them to work and threw them on the "sharing" table in the lunch room and it all sat there till i threw it away. I have tried premier brand, they are SO HARD and taste like stale rocks. I ate 2 bites and tried to flush the rest down the toilet and they wouldn't even flush! haha I also tried the brand "wonderworks keto" and felt just about the same way although they were better than the premier. They were ok to eat dry as a snack but disgusting with milk. To each their own, you may find like some other people that you love them. I have also tried Quest protein pizza, it was actually good but not a big enough deal to me for the price. I will jsut eat regular pizza. Usually a few bites and then just the toppings. Or, make home made pizza on low carb/calorie wraps. I don't know what else I have tried other than probably hundreds of protein bars, which I still randomly try and eat once in a while. Usually more of a meal replacement in a pinch than a snack. Ok- I have rambled long enough! best of luck on your journey!! -
Hello, Do you have the link to this video? I don't want to loose it so I can watch it later.

Like everyone else said; stalls happen. They will happen again, follow your plan and they will also pass. But, 500-600 calories a day seems VERY LOW especially for exercising every day. You should check in with your Dietician/Nutritionist for guidance on calories. Not eating enough, could cause stalls along with other problems. Be safe and healthy. Best of luck.

Insurance doesn't cover bariatric surgery...now what?
kcuster83 replied to LMorales's topic in Insurance & Financing
Weird, I had Cigna and it was covered. -
I have not tried either of them, I will keep an eye out and give them a try.

GUYS! This is by far THE BEST protein bar I have tried. This is the only flavor I have tried so far but I bought the cookies and cream to try too. (200 cal, 20g protein, 18 carbs) I have tried so many, some better than others but they all have that strong "protein" aftertaste. These ones BARELY have that aftertaste, almost not even noticeable. I buy singles (way more expensive) to try them and then buy the box if I like them. I can't even tell you how many brands and flavors I have tried. I like to keep them on hand in a pinch for a meal or even a snack sometimes.

Weight loss support meetings!
kcuster83 replied to Brandy Crawford's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My WL team has it's own support group. Maybe reach out to your team? If they don't have one (which i would assume if they did you would already know that) but they may at least be able to direct you to one. -
I instantly thought, "ooo with vanilla ice cream" LOL I'm such a fat girl. But then, I thought "frozen sugar free whip cream would be good too" .. so I guess my brain is trying...haha
-
OH man, that sounds like a great idea! I will be doing that!
-
It's better too. Not as dense and has like a layer of what taste just like caramel layer covers in peanut pieces and all of it has the chocolate coating.
-
I was freezing at 400+ lbs and I am still freezing after losing almost half of that! ALWAYS COLD! Except now, I am even chilly in warmer weather.

^^^ What they said. haha

Talk to your surgeon. I was allowed to take Nsaids for a limited time(Took 800mg twice). It was explained to me that once in a while is ok but try to stay away from them as regular use could cause ulcers and/or other problems. Your surgeon may allow you to take them just for your flare ups. Please understand, I am not TELLING YOU to take them. I am just sharing my situation. Be sure to get a your surgeons permission before doing so!
