MS and surgery?
kcuster83 replied to jodierussell82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have an answer for you but I can vouch for how much extra weight effects your ability to move with MS. Good for you for trying to make positive changes for the things you have control of! -
Weight gain going into week three
kcuster83 replied to nymisc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone fluctuates. Bariatric or not, it is normal. Try to stop weighing yourself so much, try to keep it to once a week. Same day every week. Then you won't see every little up and down but will see the results. -
I did it just in time for my 40th birthday!

For Gastric Bypass - Water intake question
kcuster83 replied to WillowAspen's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
When you are fresh out after surgery you likely won't even do 2 oz at a time. I was given 1 oz cups in the hospital and told I should sip that cup 3 times before it is empty. By the time I was home (2days) I could do the 1 oz cup at a time and then gradually increased. Now I chug water almost like normal. -
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR LOSS! Sorry, insurance sucks! You mentioned a husband, are you on his insurance or him on yours? Is it possible to look into the other persons insurance and maybe switch over if it is covered under the other's plan? Just a suggestion.

6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED
kcuster83 replied to crazycatladycanada's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
First: This is my concern with people going out of the country for any type of surgery. Cut and dump. They get their money and that's the end of your care. I am sure this is not the case with every surgeon but it isn't a rare occurrence either. Unfortunately that is the risk you take. Second: Everyone is different and everyone stalls. Your body is in shock, and now you are eating a fraction of the calories it was used to before surgery. It basically goes into starvation mode and stores EVERYTHING it can until it realizes it is not actually starving and this is the new normal. Your body will adjust, the human body is quite amazing. I lost like 12 lbs the first week and then nothing for like a month but then my body was like oh ok and I started dropping weight like crazy. (102 lbs in 6 months) I am currently in another stall and have lost 2 lbs in a few days shy of a month now. It does suck but it will pass. The bottom line is if you have a calorie deficit you WILL lose weight. The surgery helps you be able to eat less, resulting in less calories. Try to stay off the scale for a while, measure yourself and find other ways to see the results. Smaller clothes, non-scale victories, etc. be patient, you got this! -
My Dietician consistently says there is no such thing as a pouch reset. The calorie deficit is what makes you lose weight during said "ouch reset phase" by going back to liquids for so many days it is simply less calories. In addition, the restriction the same reasoning. Being on a liquid diet for a week, so when you eat solids your stomach reacts quicker because it is used to only have liquids again. You had to have surgery to shrink your stomach, so just drinking liquids for a week is not going to magically shrink your stomach. Everyone has different opinions on this, but if you really think about it it makes complete sense. Regardless, if your friend thinks it is and it is working for her then that is great! And, no reason not to reset if you want to.

Glad to hear, rest and take it easy. SIP SIP SIP!

This is very independent to each surgery center and insurance company. My insurance required a 4 month process, but my surgery center required a 6 month minimum with the "potential for fast tracking". They said that they require the 6 months to show your dedication and make sure you really understand the process and the life long changes. I was fast tracked, about 5 months total. Once I finished all of the insurance requirements and did my final weight check for the surgery center I had my last apt with the surgeon and surgery was scheduled. It took about a week for insurance approval and I had surgery about 3 weeks after my last apt with the surgeon.

Who has had an MRI since sleeve surgery?
kcuster83 replied to MissMerryberry's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Any medical staple, screw, plate. etc are not magnetic. You will be fine, don't worry. I have all kinds of nuts and bolts in my leg and have had many MRI's since then. -

Hair is starting to thin a bit
kcuster83 replied to liveaboard15's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stay safe out there! We have a vacation planned for Florida the first week of next month, hope it is cleared out by then. My hair is thick and has always had a lot of shedding so I can't really tell if it is more than normal or not. My ponytail seems a bit smaller so maybe it is but not enough to stress. Hopefully it stays that way! I think I am in a stall too, my first one since 3 weeks post op! I thought for a minute I was dodging stalls. haha (yea right). I have lost 3lbs over the past 3 weeks. THIS TOO SHALL PASS! -
Clothing subscription services?
kcuster83 replied to KimA-GA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have such a strange shaped body I can't imagine this working for me although I love the idea. I have such a long torso and I am so tall I struggle to find shirts that are long enough. My pants size is way smaller than my shirt size. I have already carried all of my weight in my abdomen so now that is were 90% of my excess skin is so I still need larger shirts. haha. Always something! I thought about trying like stitch fix or something like that when I hit my goal weight or maintenance (which ever comes first) mainly to try things that I would never consider when shopping for myself. I am such a tshirt and jeans girl that it is SO HARD to even consider anything else. And, when I do I feel like I am dressed up and/or over dressed for just having dinner or whatever. -
Post VSG Vitamins/Supplements
kcuster83 replied to simplysmile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What they ^^^ said. We only started with a multi vitamin and calcium and then it changed based on our blood work. -
Of course it is normal to worry. If you ask for something when you get int he back they will give you something to calm down. Good luck!

Clothing subscription services?
kcuster83 replied to KimA-GA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have never even heard of "renting" clothes. Interesting! -
It will get better, your body is healing and adjusting. Just stick with it and the weight will come off. Same with your energy levels, you are eating barely any calories right now, your body is healing so you are going to be beat. Try to keep your head up and you will get through the slump.

I say save your money, but everyone prefers different things. haha I gave them to a girl I work with and she liked them. Whereas I couldn't even get past 2 sips.

Whelp six months post op tomorrow! I still do not have "hunger" but I find myself more snacky over the last few weeks. It is annoying. I still stay within my plan limits 98% of the time, sometimes going over my calories (within 100) but usually with still healthier snacks and foods. I have been eating out more because life is so crazy and hectic right now, which I need to chill there too. We are going to Florida/Disney the first week of October so I will be forced to eat out then, which is just another reason to stop now. Overall I really don't have any complaints. No issues, and still kicking butt. I see my surgeon for my 6 month check up next week and I am still ahead of the predicted weight loss chart he gave me. I am JUST NOW starting to really see my weight loss in full body pictures. Even more so since I have been wearing clothes that fit rather than huge and falling off. Tons of friends have been commenting and sending me inspiring messages or when they see me say something. It is kind of nice that people are noticing the work I am putting in. Regardless of that, when I saw pictures of myself from the weekend I was like WHOA who is this person?!?! Flipside, I look like a half deflated water balloon naked. 😂😝 HAHA! KEEP GOING PEOPLE- WE GOT THIS! 6 months and hit 100 lbs loss today since surgery and 137 total!

Thank you! When I looked around at restaurants in the parks we are visiting it seemed to be like anywhere else. American food, Mexican, Deli like places, etc. Just as if you go anywhere to eat, but with Disney prices. haha If I happen to come across anything that really stands out for better options I will definitely pass it along!

Anyone have WLS and gallbladder removal at the same time?
kcuster83 replied to raspberrylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually it was quite easy. I ended up staying 2 night in the hospital rather than the original one night that was planned. The gas pain the first night was horrible, like no one could prepare me for it. haha I have a very high tolerance for pain too and rarely take narcotics. (Had a huge surgery on my leg years ago, they literally cut my leg in half and put it back together and NEVER took one pain pill) Anyway, by the second day the gas pain was minor and I went home. Took 1 pain pill before leaving the hospital and then never took another one. (Not even Tylenol). By day 3 I had a smidge of pain in my shoulder (still gas) and then it was smooth sailing from there out. Drank the tiniest sips humanly possible for a few days and then was even drinking normal again. Had a annoying ache in my chest for about a week but my surgeon said it was because of the Esophagus repairs he did and it would pass, it did. Really, I am so thankful how easy my recovery was. I wish you the best, I am sure you will be just fine though. Most of what people complain about it the gas pains, they were just more than I expected. Side note: My surgeon said he gave me a double dose of gas because of everything he had to do in my upper chest he needed extra room. So he said mine would probably be a little worse. -
Anyone have WLS and gallbladder removal at the same time?
kcuster83 replied to raspberrylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have my gallbadder out but had what my surgeon called "3 surgeries at once" I have a MAJOR hernia fixed, had bypass and had "scraping and trimming" of my esophagus to fix extensive damage from GERD. -
