Sorry you are going through that, crazy. Yes, the insurance system is a joke. I had to have a xray before a MRI too a few years ago. Such a waste of money. I do know there is a serious drug abuse problem (as we all know) and doctors are more strict. But to ignore your concerns is ridiculous! I would definitely be looking for a new doctor. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Food not digesting in pouch
kcuster83 replied to tranquil_chaos's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
hmm, i have heard of it happening. When people eat things and then suddenly one time it doesn't agree with them. I haven't experienced it but have read it on here and another forum quite a few times. PS: I love rotisserie chicken 😁 -

Have you had chicken before? Some people struggle with it. May have been too dry too? -
Spices (not heat) post op
kcuster83 replied to KimA-GA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
No issues here either, with spices or heat. I do however agree with @ms.sss I have less of a tolerance for the heat. haha I feel like basic hot sauce is hot now, whereas before I would use the extra hot stuff you can't even buy from the grocery store. -
Wow, I get different teams having different plans and advice but I can't understand why your entire team wouldn't be on the same page. That's crazy, and I can definitely see how it could be confusing or overwhelming. Unfortunately asking here isn't going to help or resolve the issue for you because everyone's plan is different so everyone is going to tell you different things. I would probably follow the paperwork they gave me, and likely specifically ask why you keep getting different information than what is on the paperwork you were given. It never hurts to ask questions.

I pick up shirts now and I instantly think there's no way it will fit. haha We went to a show over the weekend and I wanted a shirt. I asked for a XL and when I picked it up to look at I was like that's not fitting but I will get it for later. haha I went home and put it on and SURPRISE! It fit, a little tighter than I would probably wear because of my skin rolls but another 10 lbs and it will be perfect! PS: I was a 3-5X depending on cut. So exciting to know I am almost out of the "X"s. haha

Is this a thing after WLS? I have lost up to 170 lbs before (obviously not nearly as quickly) but never had this problem. I don't know if it is related or what but I keep banging my feet and toes up! Constantly stubbing my toes, took a chunk out of the side of my big toe the other day. I feel like my mind thinks my body is still as big (like it hasn't caught up to my body yet or something) in which my stomach was huge so I knew if my body cleared the area, or in this case the door jam then my feet were safe. Now, my stomach is flat/normal chubby and my feet stick out more? My feet are so banged up either way! My baby pinky toe nail has been fully or partially ripped off from stubbing twice now! Am I making this up? Is this a thing?

Oh wow, strange. That could be it, have you asked about it? I found myself walking "swervy" and found out I had vertigo. That was years ago and not an issue anymore. I am also dealing with my blood pressure dropping to low now after WLS. Hope you start feeling better soon!

yea, I always look at seating areas and panic for a split second and then realize, I fit everywhere now. lol

Just went to the surgeon for a hiatal hernia and he recommends gastric bypass
kcuster83 replied to Kelseydawn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I had found out about my HH during my WLS pre-op process. They saw it in the scope. I had severe GERD for YEARS and never heard of a HH (on 2 prescriptions plus TUMS), my doctor never even looked into WHY I may have acid reflux so bad. I didn't even know it was a thing, he did say my weight doesn't help it though. Anyway, long story short. Major damage to my esophagus and a huge HH. My bariatric surgeon fixed everything during my WLS. I had bypass, I have ZERO regrets and only wish I had done it sooner. My GERD is completely cured, off all GERD medications and have eaten just about everything I would have before surgery as far as "trigger foods". Otherwise I only had slightly high blood pressure and now it is always low, sometimes even too low. So again, ZERO REGRETS! Good luck on your journey! -

Good for you for recognizing and hearing him out. Good for you for taking the steps on addressing it before it spirals out of control. GOOD. FOR. YOU. -
Lost 110 pounds but now at 1500 calories a day
kcuster83 replied to bluebellblue's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Don't panic. 1500 calories is not a lot. If you are still loosing (even slower) then you are fine. If you are comfortable where you are and stop loosing, then you are fine. Either way, just try it an adjust. Everyone is different and there are so many factors to take in account. My Dietician told me at my last apt that I will most likely be around 2000-2200 calories (very tall) once I get to maintenance! I eat around 1000-1200 a day now and on the higher end days I am munchy and having snacks. I am already trying to figure out how I would double that. It makes me worry about eating more high calorie foods or more snacks and then spiraling out of control. I am trying not to over think it as I am still a bit away from that point. My point is, I understand your worries but slow down and take it day to day. You can do it, hell, you already have. -
Thanks for your input. I am glad to hear you are slowly getting back to "normal". A big loss like that takes time, give yourself the time you need.

1-week post op; feeling all over the place
kcuster83 replied to KRod6's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello, glad your recovery is going well. As far as the sweetness, you can try to add more milk to the shakes or even water. This will thin them out and cut the sweetness. Or, as @ShoppGirl mentioned try clear protein drinks which you can also add water to cut the sweetness. I liked gatorade zero with protein the best but it was sweet. In the liquid stages, my shakes and everything counted as liquids. So your shake is counted towards your liquids and your protein. Again, thinning it out adds more liquid to your count too. It is hard to hit your goal only a week out. I hit my protein and fluid goals around 2 weeks and have been able to maintain them since. You will get in a groove and be hitting goals before you know it, be patient. OHHH those chewable vitamins are the absolute worse. I couldn't get past the smell, let alone the taste and texture. It was horrible, I worked with my team. I tried every brand and flavor I could found, all gross and I wasted so much money. They were not that concerned, at my 2 week follow up the surgeon cleared me to take pills/capsules as long as I could handle them. I was fine and have been taking capsules ever since. Maybe reach out to your team and ask for help. -
Holiday, Family, and Recovery
kcuster83 replied to BlessedMomma91's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You may get worn out depending how much activity you plan on doing. But, at about 3 weeks out you should be fine to entertain. -
My team/ Dietician is VERY balanced. Nothing is off limits. They only stress to hit your protein and fluid goals before eating other things. Some days I eat 150g carbs and some days I eat 30g carbs. Just how it works out, not with any extra efforts.

I asked about DEPO when I had to stop the Estrogen based pill and my GYNO said it tends to cause weight gain and recommended against it since I was having WLS. She didn't want it to effect things. How did you do? Did it seem to effect you at all?
-
I am about 7 months post-op and on the pill. I have been on the pill for years, only changing it when I had to get off estrogen for surgery. I like to skip the "period pills" and never had a problem doing so. Sometimes I would get a little crampy but didn't get my period. NOW after surgery, if I try to skip the period pills. I still get my period and then it goes kinda crazy like I will have it off and on for like 2 weeks. Then it goes away and by that time I am back to the period pills in my pack. I notice when I take them normal and just suck it up and have my period when those pills hit i stay normal and have no issues. It is annoying me, I am thinking about moving on to the IUD but that weirds me out so I haven't decided yet.

Help getting back on track
kcuster83 replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Maybe go for a walk when you get your snack attacks? Do anything else to take your mind off of food? Or, just eat something super low calorie that won't effect your day too much? Good luck, you can do it! -
Yea, I started with diarrhea and then became very normal. I am lucky enough to not have had to deal with constipation which is HUGE for me because I suffered from it for the last 7-8 years and was on prescriptions meds to be able to go to the bathroom. I haven't been on any meds or supplements since surgery and as regular as I ever! (Weird, but I love it) haha
