My mother had a mastectomy a few months ago, I was in the recovery room when she woke up. The nurse told her she would feel pressure on her chest because they put her in a mastectomy compression bra... my mom's (without missing a beat) says.. "I knew I was getting the feels while I was out... I just don't know if I liked it. I think my missing boob is going to be jealous now"...LOL! The nurse thought it was funny, I just shook my head...

Night time and my fat brain wants to eat.
kcuster83 replied to Leo segovia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do this too! I am not so much a "night" eater. But tend to have more an a urge to eat later in the day. I never used to eat breakfast and wouldn't eat at all till lunch at 12.. so I guess my body was trained to eat all the calories in the late afternoon/evening so now naturally I still want to even though I eat breakfast now. (well drink a shake) Before I was hungry, now I am not hungry but rather just want to eat. So yea, like you I adjust my day for it and stay within my limits too. Been working great for me. -

Stuck at 3.5 Months Post-Op
kcuster83 replied to heartofmercury's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, the biggest thing I can suggest is track your intake. 100% of the time. if you already do that, maybe reach out to your team and/or Dietician. You can review your diet and calorie intake with them and I am sure they would be able to give you pointers. -
If you aren't 100% sure I recommend waiting until you are. You can always revisit the option later. You don't want to regret anything, or not stick with it because you really didn't want to do it. With that being said, it is probably just normal surgery jitters. If you had to go through any kind of pre-op process that usually take 4-6 months. You had plenty of time to think about it and talk yourself out of doing it. This is why I said that you are probably having normal jitters. I can say, I have been reading this forum and 2 others plus in 2 FB groups for WLS. I rarely see people say they regret it, or the only regret is not doing it sooner. The people that I do read about regrets are rare and 100% of the time due to some VERY unlikely/low risk complications. I wish you the best, always make the decision that is best for you and your needs!

I cook, but nothing creative. haha -
True story. I struggle with super low blood pressure now. They say it will level out once my body "catches up" but if it keeps dropping so low I will be put on meds to keep it up.

Taste change after surgery
kcuster83 replied to KimA-GA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would say my taste pretty much stayed the same. I have always loved pickles of any kind or flavor, after surgery there is ONE particular flavor of pickles I don't prefer anymore. It's weird, I still love all of the others. lol My sense of smell however intensified. Not like things smell gross but I notice smells that other people don't and sometimes things that smell normal to others are almost unbearably strong to me. Not only foods but perfumes and such also. -
Like you said, everyone's plan is different. I too am allowed carbs. My team and Dietician stress a VERY balanced diet. Our bodies need everything, within limits. With that being said, It depends on the carb for me. Soft breads also used to hit me like I swallowed a brick, even just one bite. Now, 7 months post op I can eat about a 1/2-3/4 of a piece of bread (REGULAR BREAD- NOT KETO/LOW CARB) at a time without issue. I do fill up very quick on carbs so usually tend to have a bite or 2 and then eat the other stuff. For example I ordered a chicken salad wrap while out one day and ate 2 bites and then just ate the filling. I have had a pasta, rice, breads, crackers, wraps...you get the point. I have tried them all. I seem to handle them all fine now but still I only have a few bites and I'm done with them. Some people do struggle more with them so you could give it a break and try again in a few months to see how you feel. Just focus on the proteins for now. Good luck!

Strange. Call your doctor.

I have heard of this happening. Also, you may have a bought of vertigo. I get it and it is exactly as you explained! You can ask your doctor, there are meds to help it. I hope you get it resolved soon.

Vomiting food 10 weeks post op
kcuster83 replied to skinny44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried leaner things like chicken or turkey? Or even lunch meats? Something "lighter" than beef in consistency? Could also try to cook meat in a slow cooker so it stays very moist. Sometimes the meat drying out is hard to digest also. I was told beef is the hardest to digest after surgery and some people struggle with it for a while. I didn't eat beef for almost 4 months and when I did I had 1 tiny bit of bit beef and it made me ill and vomit for hours. I didn't try again for another few months and now I am fine with it. I have tried all types of beef, with not issues now. PS: I had bypass but these were tips I was given by my team when working back to solids. Also, call your team and ask for help! May be something medical. -

HAHA! My meals are usually so basic so I share for fun. They post fancy meals, most that I would be afraid to even try. I wish I was more adventurous with foods! Homemade quesadillas are YUM, we make all kinds of them. So many possibilities. Share you food, tots and all! haha -
Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
kcuster83 replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I finally had to go shopping for jeans. I have went up and down so much over the years I had a HUGE range of sizes so I have been just working through the clothes I had in my closet. Well 2 NSV's this weekend: 1, I have shrunk out of all the stocked sizes, which means I am officially the smallest I have been in my adult life! 2, Size 16 fits loose! 14 is uncomfortably tight but did (barely) button! (Started my journey at a size 26) -

Bread still fills me up super fast so I only pulled the "bare" spots off to start which happens to be the crust and outer areas. I was actually surprised I finished that much of the bread, usually I take 1 or 2 bites and then just eat the insides. Or, just skip the bread all together. But sometimes, you just want a sandwich! PS: I like crusty breads better myself also! -

Weight loss after gastric sleeve - 2 months out
kcuster83 replied to Icey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations on your weight loss! People fluctuate all day every day. Weigh yourself less. I weigh myself every Monday (my surgery day) Then you don't see the fluctuations, you only see the loss. -

How long did you drink protein shakes after bypass?
kcuster83 replied to Mona Ometuruwa's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello, I had bypass a little over 7 months ago. I still drink a protein shake everyday. Otherwise, I have to eat NON stop ALL day to hit my protein goal. I am not a breakfast person, so I actually don't mind just grabbing it for breakfast to give my protein a boost right out of the gate. You can stop drinking them whenever you want, you just need to maintain your protein goals. Vitamins depends solely on the vitamins and your blood work. I take a "1 a day" bariatric multi vitamin and calcium each day. Vitamin at breakfast and calcium at lunch. So far so good with blood work but I am early out so we will see how it worked out in a few months at my 1 year blood work. -
What is a mini bypass?
kcuster83 replied to toodlerue's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had to google it when I saw it the first time. Apparently they bypass less of the intestines with mini bypass, otherwise the same. -
Yes, I have done both of these techniques also. I actually did the carb cycling when I was working with a personal trainer. He suggested it and it did wonders! Soon as I stopped working with him (he moved) I lost motivation and fat again.. so here I am. haha

Great news! Glad you are doing well. You are going back to work quick. I don't know your job duties or anything but try to take it easy. I was exhausted when I went back, half way into the day I was so tired I couldn't even function. It passed as I got back into the swing of things. Luckily my boss allowed me to come back and "work as I could" so me leaving early wasn't an issue.

Hmm, has me curious. Maybe mine is hollow? HAHAH! Sometimes pieces float and don't flush. ..weird convo but it happens. HMMM... My brain is going crazy now. I am also regular after surgery which is about the best thing ever because I suffered from MAJOR constipation before surgery and dreaded what would happen after. Got lucky!
