Oh yea, that truffle stuff is an intense flavor. I imagine that would have been hard to eat. I would have passed as well. -
Advice needed: How to do Thanksgiving
kcuster83 replied to heartofmercury's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am no veteran but when I find myself in group settings with lots of food I just go for the protein first and maybe a bite or 2 of something else. I try to eye ball a few ounces of the proteins and just stop eating when I get the slightest bit of full. (I am pretty good at eyeballing, I eyeball then weigh at home to keep myself tested. lol) So far this process has worked for me. Good luck, you can do it. -
Having GERD. Will insurance cover revision if BMI IS 31?
kcuster83 replied to NewlySleeved12282020's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
The best thing top do is call your insurance company and discuss it with them. Or, wait for your doctor apt and let them fight the battle for you. Insurance companies are so finicky it is hard to say. Sometimes they deny just for a "code" being entered wrong. You dr. office will know how to enter it and make it clear it is not for WL reasons, etc. Goodluck GERD SUCKS! I had it for years and my gastric bypass has completely resolved it. (I did NOT have sleeve, I went with bypass from the start because of already having such severe GERD before hand. -
Post op tale …. first two weeks
kcuster83 replied to KimA-GA's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Whew, glad your husband took you to the ER and they caught that in time to easily treat it. It could have been way worse so give him a pat on the back. Glad to hear you are feeling better, take it easy and give yourself time to heal. -
How to handle vacation?
kcuster83 replied to qtdoll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have went on quite a few vacations or 1/2 day trips since surgery. My first one was about 1.5 months after surgery and I was just getting back to a normal solid diet. We went out to eat once a day and I just ordered what I already knew was "Safe" for me and things I had previously tried eating without issues. Other than that I just stuck to my shakes for breakfast and a small snack/meal somewhere in the day depending on the times we went out to eat. I kind of worked around that. I will say I wasted a lot of food from eating out because I could only eat a few bites. Sometimes I just shared someone else's meal. Having a few bites of theirs was more than enough for me at that time. I am far enough out now, that I know easily what to order when eating out and how it will effect me so I just stick with it. I am on the run a lot and always busy so I eat out more than I prefer but I make it work and it hasn't seemed to taint my progress. Good luck and just stick with your "safe foods" and you will just fine. -
Dumping or lactose intolerance?
kcuster83 replied to Courtney*'s topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Seems more of a lactose issue than dumping. Protein shakes are very low sugars and fats to cause dumping, although nothing is impossible. Also, you don't really get into your symptoms. With dumping you usually get hot like flashes, sweaty, racing heart, and sick. Try dairy free protein shakes and see how you do. Good luck, you got this! -
Hello and best of luck!!!

You all make great points. I can easily ignore and move past people's comments, but at that very moment when it happens it annoys me. haha Also, you all reminded me of family and the holidays! UH OH! I haven't seen most of my family in months! I have probably lost around 80 more LBS since the last time I saw them. So, Christmas will be interesting. My entire family is obese, most of them severely obese. So everyone ALWAYS comments on your weight loss. "What's your secret..blah blah blah" Really, just eating WAY less! \ Good luck to everyone through these trying times!

Yes, I do agree. I don't think people realize how things come out of their mouth sometimes. Sometimes, it is just plain mean and they still don't think it is.. those people are dicks. LOL For example I was told "if you loose too much more weight you will be unattractive to me" lol.. ok 1st: it is fine that you like big girls, 2: I don't care if I am "attractive to YOU".. I care I am happy with myself and attractive to my partner. And, honestly.. if my weight loss became UN attractive to my partner.. that wouldn't stop me either it just may stop my relationship.. This is for me.. for just about the first time ever.. it is FOR ME..

@GreenTealael Here ya go! Still delicious! haha 287 cal. 24g protein ATE IT ALLLLL 😋 I attached the recipe also, I actually made a double batch (Fed other people too) but used half the butter required and added baby carrots. I don't think the butter was needed, so next time I make it I am going to skip the butter all together and see how it is. I also used the Au jus mix and not brown gravy mix. Meal prep tip: add some juice to each dish so it doesn't dry out. -
I would say just watch the sugars, I don't know how you would know how much sugar actually gets into the water you drink from the fruits. But, I eat fruit so I can't imagine it would be a problem if you can handle eating the fruit. Cucumber water is delicious!

Water bottle that has like a sleeve inside of it to add infusers too like fruit and veggies.

Celebrate you today!

I always love reading your posts! I am going to celebrate that I didn't get a chunk in my shake this morning. haha Not my personal achievement but still a happy one. -
Oh my, I am sorry you are going through this. She is clearly a manipulator, for whatever reasons she has came up with in her head. Likely hating herself and trying to bring the people around her down to her. I know it can be hard, balance between not hurting your husband but also not dealing with her ****. Have the BOTH of you sat down and talked to her together and VERY directly? Make it very clear that if she doesn't back up and respect your house, your personal goals and your relationship she will be forced to leave and if she doesn't have anywhere to go it will then be her problem. I don't know if it will help but definitely worth a shot. Then, at that point I am on board with @sillykitty it is her problem. She didn't respect either of you, so she does not deserve the same respect. If none of these things work and you just end up stuck with her, maybe get a mini fridge for your bedroom and put your foods and prepped meals in there? Or be a real d**k back and get a lock for the refrigerator so she can't access it. Then she can figure it out herself. Could even do the same thing with a few cabinets, so only you and husband have access to them. I know it sounds ridiculous but at that point I would say it is desperate measures. I wish you the best! Hang in there.

wait 3 months to eat carbs?!
kcuster83 replied to qtdoll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Each program has it's own set of guidelines for their own reasons. My theory is that if you trust them to preform surgery then trust them to guide you through the process. Follow their plan. My program never limited carbs. As @Tomo said, just get protein in first then some veggies and from there eat what you want while staying within your daily calories. I think other than a single bite here and there I probably couldn't get carbs in till 3/4 months after surgery anyway though. Now, it just depends on the day. Sometimes I eat 30 carbs and other days I eat 150. -

You got it!! I will wait till I eat it tomorrow because it looks gross cold. HAHA! -
Well that is good news! Good luck with the next step.

No problem! You will find lots of support here. But, also lots of different opinions which could become overwhelming especially in the early stages when you are still learning and getting used to everything. Over anything else, listen to your team and Dietician! You are trusting them with your life while preforming surgery, so you should be trusting them throughout the entire process. And you will soon learn everyone's surgeon and bariatric team have different rules and guidelines.

I suppose! haha I also LOVE roast carrots so I added baby carrots to mine while it cooked! YUM! It is really the only kind of carrots I like. I hate raw carrots and even cooked taste to plain. But whew, I could make a meal of roast beef carrots alone. -
Hello, I have noticed a lot of the stuff we eat or drink cost way more on Amazon but it is more convenient. I just thought I would give you a heads up , based on my experience. Your choice, I sometimes just pay it because the free shipping makes up for the cost difference of having it delivered with shipping fees somewhere else too. Sometimes I order stuff from Walmart too, or I go to Bj's. (need membership) Everyone has a different opinion on the SF stuff. I have heard it makes you crave sugar more but I don't have an opinion on that. Sugar alcohols give A LOT of people diarrhea, so you might want to watch that too. I personally don't like SF candies so I just avoid it and if I really have the urge will eat a small piece of something sweet with real sugar. I do drink SF drinks tho and don't mind them so I don't know what the difference is for me. I have never been a sweet drink person so that may have something to do with it. I LOVE SF lemonade! Good luck to you!

Stop weighing yourself everyday. Try to cut back to once a week. Everyone fluctuates all the time, I can easily gain 5 lbs in a day and by the next morning it be completely gone plus some. Also, you will experience "stalls" at times. You won't loose weight and may even gain a couple lbs over a week or so. It also will pass. Just stay focused and follow your plan and you will loose weight. Best of luck to you!

How do people date after massive weight loss? Regardless of surgery or not. I am married, and don't plan to date but you never know. If it goes South, it's me and great dane for life! Still even self conscious after being together for 18 years! But, my point is in regard to all the extra skin? I have lost over 100 lbs and have 90-100 more to go! I have already had extra skin removed 10 years ago after loosing 140lbs but then gained it back. Now my skin is different. I gained it differently. I have a flat tight lower belly but the top is like an extra pair of boobs now. And frankly, bigger than my actual boobs! I hate my skin but I hate being fat more. I don't know if I will get more skin removal surgery or not. I watched a video of a woman using a body suit after loosing almost 200 lbs. Her body with the suit on was slim, tight and curvy. So, you're wearing that on a date or multiple dates with a person and it goes further. Then what, just take off the body suit and let it all out? Do you have a conversation with the person before it gets to that point? How do you address these things?

I have no idea, I don't even remember where I saw it. Sorry.

I meal prep my lunches usually. A lot of times crock pot meals, mainly because it is easier. This week I made "Mississippi roast beef" it is the best roast I have ever eaten! I will have to take a picture during my lunch tomorrow and share it. If you look up the recipe- I used half of the butter in the recipe and will likely just leave the butter completely out next time.
