Anyone from th Melbourne Fl area??

You should be fine. I know that on the Saturday before my surgery I had lunch as my meal. It was fine. Just as long as you do just the one meal. You will be fine. Good luck during this EXCITING TIME!

Anyone from th Melbourne Fl area??

I haven't been to a support group meeting yet. So far I have only good things to say about the staff and Dr. Fusco. Everyone there is so supportive. Everyone at Melbourne Same Day Surgery was nice and very caring! It has been an amazing experience. Getting the lap band was my first time ever being under the knife. I have to say I was impressed with how fast I healed and how the staff was ready to help at any time. I wish you good luck on Monday! How is your liver reduction diet going?

    Who's Getting Banded in August???

Everyday I am amazed! I was banded on August 25th. I am down 17 pounds. And the weight I am losing you can see in my waist and belly area. Which is nice because previous diets it seems like I would just lose in the face. I can see the beginning of a waist. It just has me so shocked. Plus the fact that I feel GREAT! I am following what the doctor has told me to do. Will the weight continue to come off as steady, after my first fill? (Which is Sept. 24th.) I hope so.

    acronym help

This is what I was told about the band. Some people get 10cc and some get 12cc. I have a 10cc band. I was told that I got that band because it was the band that fit me. I was told that after surgery a lot of people get band envy, but there was nothing better or different about it, expect for the fact that it fit me better. I am glad you asked the other questions. I would like to know the answer to those too!

I don't know if Dr. Fusco's office will do the fill, but you could call over there and ask.

How long did you take pain meds?

I was banded on Monday and yesterday was my first day without pain meds. That doesn't mean I wasn't in pain. I was very sore, but it was pain I could tolerate. I figured at some point I have to work through the pain. Plus, my liquid pain meds made me very sleepy and everyone said that the best thing for the pain is get up and move. So yesterday I did some shopping, cleaning around the house, etc. I was exhausted and sore by the end of the day, but this morning I feel even better. I hope you find what works for you!

    Unbearable Shoulder Pain!!!

I was banded on Monday, Aug.25th. I am experiencing the shoulder pain too. My aftercare nurse told me to breathe through the pain. I also left the surgery center with a breathing apperatus (spelling). Basically you suck air in, then take your mouth off and push the air out like you are pushing through a straw. I was told to do 10 reps. every 15 minutes while awake. That seems to help a lot!

Getting banded on monday the 25th

Tomorrow is the day! I have to be at the surgery center by 11:45am and my procedure is at 1pm. I have been on clear liquids since Friday. I didn't know that jello and chicken broth could taste so good. I think I have finally gotten rid of the headaches. I haven't been able to take anything for them and have just had to put up with them. I hope I am headache free today!

    Who's Getting Banded in August???

I will find out what the pre-op with the surgeon is like today. My appointment was cancelled due to Fay. The storm left a lot of flooding. I was told yesterday not to worry, my surgery would not be cancelled. So that made me feel a lot better. I am getting nerveous about my surgery. I have never been under expect for oral surgery. So as Monday approaches, I can feel the nerves more and more. I started the liquid liver reduction diet today. I want to eat breakfast, but I just had some jello and water. It is a good thing I will be out of the house today. I won't feel tempted. We will have to keep in touch and support each other. See how everything goes on Monday! GOOD LUCK! :wink2:

    Who's Getting Banded in August???

I am scheduled for surgery on the 25th in Melbourne, FL with Dr. Fusco. I have my pre-op appointment tomorrow! Hopefully I will be able to get to the doctor's office. Tropical Storm Fay has left a lot of flooding in the area. But nothing will stand in the way of me trying to get to the appointment! I have spent the last 8 months doing what insurance wanted and then waiting for their approval. I am not going to get this close and let and T.S. cause chaos!

    Lifeshape/Dr. Fusco

Hello all! Has anyone been banded by Dr. Fusco through Lifeshape in Melbourne, Florida? I was curious what to expect on August 25th for my surgery. I meet with the aftercare nurse on Tuesday. Then with Dr. Fusco on the 21st.

    Lifeshape/Dr. Fusco

aremers- I have to ask because I am curious. I have surgery on Monday (25th) and I have read that a lot of people are bloated from the gas for awhile. Are you? I am curious because next Thursday (which will be a few days post op) I will have to go into school to meet my classroom parents and I am worried I am going to be all bloated. I am glad you are feeling good, minus the gas pains!

    Lifeshape/Dr. Fusco

I won't be able to make Thursday's meeting because I meet with Dr. Fusco late that afternoon. Then I am going over to Christie's for my workout/body assessment. I will have to plan to visit some of the support groups. Only a few more days until the my big Band Day!

    T.S. Fay Driving me CRAZY!

I am to be banded Monday, August 25th. Right now I am stressing. Tropical Storm Fay has cancelled everything for today and tomorrow. I was suppose to go to see my PCP today. She was going to sign my paper to give permission for surgery...seems how she has reviewed all my labs and is fully supportive of me having the surgery. Then I was to take that paper to my appointment with the surgeon, which is Thursday afternoon. Now I am curious when I am going to get that paper from her. This storm has caused a wrench in everything. I am hoping that she can see my Thursday or if the surgeon will allow, maybe even Friday and then fax over the paper to his office. I guess we will see. I am going to call everyone involved as soon as this storm is over. Still hoping my banding is Monday!!!! Fingers are crossed!

    Lifeshape/Dr. Fusco

Oh good....I was just curious because after that appointment I go to meet with Christie. I made those appointments back to back because I live in Titusville, and I figured if I am already in the area I would make my appointment for then. Only three more days for you! How exciting!

    Lifeshape/Dr. Fusco

Donna was very nice. The whole staff seems very supportive and on top of things. I am excited about my surgery too! Can't wait till the 25th. What is the pre-op meeting with Dr. Fusco like? You probably had that this week, right?
  21. slimteacherin08

What was your preop diet like?

I will be banded on August 25th and my pre-op diet is a liver reduction diet. Three days before surgery start the diet. I have to have two clear liquid meals a day and one regular meal (anything I want.) Then the day before surgery I can have nothing but clear liquids. That is all I have to do before surgery.

    questions re: 6 month diet

Thank you! I don't drink coffee and have already given up soda, but was curious if you could suggest a protein shake that is decent.

    questions re: 6 month diet

I was checking in to see how things were going. I wanted to give you a heads up with CIGNA....I was finally approved on Friday after three weeks of waiting and having to strong arm them. I would say once it has been submitted give them a week. Then start calling every other day! I did this and still got the run around. My paperwork sat in predetermination forever. Once when I called I was told it was in nurses' review and I would have an answer by the end of the week. Well, I had to threaten CIGNA in order to get an answer. I told them that if my husband had to get his company's benefits people involved we are set to call them, and then you can work it out with them. Because after all....it is the company's money you are making a decision on. Less than an hour later I was approved. So just stay on top of them. Just wanted to give you a heads up! Hope all is going well! My surgery date is set for Aug. 25th...so I am so excited right now!

    Mothers are confusing!

I figured I would post this in rants and raves. I figured this was the most appropriate spot for this. Seems how my mother is driving me CRAZY! In November I decided to research the lap band and discussed it with my husband. By January I made arrangements to go to a seminar to learn more and made the final decision. In December, while my parents visited for Christmas I told my mom what I was looking into possibly doing. Told her about the seminar I was signed up for and that my husband was VERY supportive. She seemed happy for me. After the seminar I found out my insurance required 6 months of PCP visits. I immediately made an appointment to begin the process. By the end of January my mom mentioned that she was going to have the lap band done too. She would pay for it all out of pocket if necessary, but was going to have it done by Feburary. I was excited for her, but at the same time a little shocked. She didn't say anything about it in December. It was all new to her. But I was glad she was interested in it. Then all of a sudden she was going to have it done ASAP! It almost felt like a race. I continued on with my 6 months of PCP visits. She meanwhile tries forcing getting the lap band done. But I guess after two doctor changes and the fact that she has too much scar tissue for the procedure. She is going to have gastric bypass. The pysch has not cleared her for surgery yet. He wants to make sure she is mentally ready. So she visits with him once every couple of weeks. I meanwhile have finished up my PCP visits, did my pysch., nutrition visit, etc....and everything is in insurance hands for approval. Today I called CIGNA to see where I was in the process; and it is at nurses review. So they said I could find out about approval this week or next. I was excited. When I talked to my mom today I told her my news. She said "good, good" and then abruptly changed the subject. I have noticed that we use to share our process with each other and now that hers has been delayed she puts me off. I guess I am going off on here, because it kind of hurts. I know there are underlying feelings there, but she doesn't say anything about anything. It frustrates me. She is my mom and we use to be able to talk to each other, but it seems like she is changing. She is drawing herself in. You know how moms, usually listen to anything. I have learned to censor what I say, especially if it is about the lap band. After today's phone call, where she also said that when she goes the the shrink this week, she is going to tell him that he needs to clear her for surgery. Is this normal? Has anyone else had to deal with their mother or another family member responding this way? Part of me doesn't want to tell her when I do get approved and when I do end up with the surgery. Just let her see when she comes for Thanksgiving. I know that might not be mature, but I am frustrated!

    Healthy obsession????

Do you have to meet with a nutritionist before your surgery? My nutritionist said that for the part of the post-op diet that is liquids not to worry about sugar free. She said that everything doesn't have to be sugar free, because you won't be eating much as it is and you will need something in your system. When it comes to mushie and solid food stages she said to only eat three 4 oz meals daily (no snacking!) She also gave me sample menus for each stage of the post-op diet. It seemed to be pretty straight forward. I will find out in two weeks how straight forward it is. I am thinking just like any diet it will require work to stay focused.
