Hello All, I have the opportunity to get either a BPD/DS or a SADI revision to my original/broken 2002 Lap-Band. I've done a lot of research and I like the statistics of the BPD/DS and that it's the most powerful and successful WLS available today. I did some research into SADI and the early numbers are pretty promising, plus it seems like a slightly safer procedure with potentially less complications - but I dislike that the statistics are just not quite there after roughly 6 years. I'm torn. I'm leaning BPD/DS, but I want to really consider both procedures. FYI my stats are 5"4", 325lb, Age 44 F. I live in the UK. I have reached out to the UK surgeons listed on this page for my DS Revision: https://bariatricfacts.org/threads/current-list-of-known-rny-to-ds-surgeons.1403/ So knowing what you know, what would you do in my position - BPD/DS or SADI? I want to hear your opinions, please!! I genuinely see benefits to both surgeries, I have a bias towards the available stats for the BPD/DS though.

Advice Needed: BPD/DS or SADI?
jenniferann replied to jenniferann's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sorry Tek, I thought I was on a DS-only board, didn't realize I posted on a general pre-op board, oops. I did not mean to offend you or anyone else. -
yes, I am lucky, insurance paid for the fix :tongue2: Thanks! recovering nicely on day 5.

mgallagator, they repaired by band via surgery... my surgeon actually replaced my band, instead of just repositioning it, because he said there was a lot of scar tissue and my stomach had sort of "attached" to my band. (sorry if TMI... lol) Jenny

Dee, I hope you have found a resolution for this already. I was banded in 2002 and had a slippage earlier this year which I just got fixed. However, my original surgeon didn't tell me not to take NSAIDS, so I would take tylenol or advil or midol, whatever was best suited to solve my problem, without taking the band into account. Obviously I won't be taking NSAIDs anyMORE, just in case, but I don't think they were the cause of my band slippage. I think that your stomach is probably very very swollen, if the band is placed right and you were able to get barium down. Were I in your position, I'd be pushing for an unfill and staying on liquids till you get unfilled, and for a few days after. See if the problems go away a few days after an unfill? Good luck, Jenny

Mgallagator - Well, for me, it was my band causing the non-acid reflux. A sign in my doctor's office called it "night cough". Very polite way of putting it, wasn't it? My night cough went away when I had all of the fill removed from my band. My band was slipped and I just had it repaired... 2 days ago. Good luck.

A hostage in my own body? (or more accurately my mind)...
jenniferann replied to leknigh's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Try to keep in mind, there is virtually no "lasts". I can eat practically anything with my band. Just less of it. The only food for sure i know I can't have, is clams!! They're just too chewy! Granted, with the pre- and post-op liquid & soft diets you won't be eating anything you love for awhile but it's temporary and it'll be over before you know it. Think of it this way - it's not an end, it's a beginning. No need for last meal syndrome -
"Satisfied" or "Full"?? Help me out here! :)
jenniferann replied to emmaluvu's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
re: Satisfied vs. Full I can honestly say I have never felt "full" like you feel now, with the band. It's full but it's the upper part of my tummy - the lower part is still empty! You cannot overeat with the band unless you graze. It's gonna come back up and it's gonna hurt like he!!. Food left on your plate, you can look at it longingly but if your stomach's contents are telling you "1 more bite and I'm coming back up to see you" then you will stop. For me, being sick was ALWAYS enough of a deterrent. what happened to me was, I learned to be satisfied with the portions I had. Taking much smaller bites, chewing everyhting like crazy, and eating slowly, I realized I could get all the same enjoyment out of that food as my dining companions (non-banded) were. the only difference was that I was eating only 25% of the quantity they were eating. After awhile it didn't bother me at all. but your feelings are perfectly normal. to this day people tell me things like "Is that ALL you're going to eat? How do you live like that, don't you miss eating?" Most of the time... No. I'm too happy with the way I feel and the 125lbs i've lost. it IS a lot to ponder. I don't know if I can adequately describe it. You have to really want it, of course. Maybe if you go to a local lap-band support group you can talk to some banded folks and see what they think :glare: Jenny -
Need help in Phoenix. 6 years banded, now a slippage
jenniferann posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, I've been having some issues lately that lead me to believe I may have a slipped band. I can't believe it, after 6 very happy and moderately successful years with my band! What's happening is: I'm having trouble keeping food down. Sometimes it stays down only to surface TWELVE HOURS later when I am drinking something. This just doesn't seem normal and it didn't happen like this before. I haven't had trouble drinking liquids but unfortunately, if I've eaten solids in the past 12 hours sometimes solids PB back up. (yeah, EW!) So I put myself on a liquid only diet, thinking that if it's swelling, it will just calm itself down, or if it's just a tiny slip it can slip back into place. liquid diet doesn't seem to be helping, I did a week on liquids and had the same issues the next time I ate solid food. Also, as Sherrirbgr posted below "Not Acid Reflux" I've had the nighttime non-acid reflux happen a few times as well. The above problem started recently. I also started getting heartburn about 2 years ago which I take Prilosec for. I was never able to find the cause of my heartburn - I avoided caffeine, coffee, tomatoes, all alcohol, orange juice, everything acidic - and still would get the heartburn, so eventually I accepted that's probably just my band. I've heard stories of lap-banders getting heartburn in the long-term. Or, I thought maybe I was just getting old! Here's my biggest complication. I live in Phoenix now and my band doctor is in Chicago. I didn't find a band doctor when I moved to phoenix a few years ago. I haven't even had a fill in a few years - I haven't needed one. (I was always one of those people who had lots of restriction even without Fluid in the band, a little fill went a long way in me). Everything was copacetic. So now I have to find a phoenix lap-band doctor who's willing to do long-term care on someone who's not their patient. I would prefer not to go back to chicago for this care, with the price of plane tickets now it would cost me a small fortune. If any of you can offer advice on my symptoms (it really does sound like a slippage though, huh?) OR if you can recommend any local Phoenix doctors who have been known to take on patients who weren't originally their patients, Let me know. I am afraid to going to a doctor who will try to get me to revise my Lap-band to a RNY. I started at 350lbs and I'm at 225lbs now. Thanks and sorry for such a long post! Jenny Banded November 2002 -
Oh my goodness, I've had the exact same thing happen to me. Doesn't happen every night but happens a few nights a week. being single, it can be REALLY AWKWARD if I have a guest lol!! Well the mystery is solved, I had been wondering what the hell that was. Now I know, It's my band.
