    Eating Normal/Why???

I was banded 9/12 and feel the same as you. Though I can not eat quite as much as before, I feel I can eat normal size meals. I am full for 4-5 hours, as long as I don't drink anything. As soon as I get that bottle of water in me I'm starving. I'm having a hard time getting my liquids in because I don't want to be hungry. I've had a few issues with getting stuck, because I'm still taking too big of bites and trying to go to fast lately. I have made the effort in the last week to slow down and chew. I get my first fill Nov 7 and I'm hoping that will help me cut my food intake in half. I've found my eyes are aften bigger than my stomach right now, and I usually leave some of what I've put on my plate. Good luck you are not alone!!!

    Shoulder pain...

I had horrible left shoulder pain too, but I believe it is mostly your tubing touching nerves or something else inside. I think after the swelling went down in my stomach it just dissappeared at about 1 1/2 weeks out.

    Driving after surgery

I drove myself 3 hours home from the hospital. I knew this was going to happen so I didn't take any pain meds after a certain point the night before. It sucked, but I made it through.

    Getting Frustrated!!!

I am in the same boat as you. I am only 2 weeks out, but on mostly solids already. I can't eat quite as much as I used to, but about half. I'm not losing anymore either. I lost 12 pounds the first week, then nothing. But I am honing my lapband eating skills. Small bites, chew thoroughly, nothing to drink with meals, eat slowly. I feel confident once I get a fill the first week of Nov. I will start losing again. I do feel full for longer. It is hard to train myself not to snack like I used to. That is the hardest part for me, oh and no Diet Coke is killing me.
  5. I'm one week out and I have the pain too. It is an ache up under my left collar bone. Sometimes it is worse than others. I don't think its gas. That whole left side still kind of hurts, especially when I breathe deeply. Have learned to breathe shallow all the time. Hate to think what it will feel like when I start to do some activity. Hopefully it won't be forever...
  6. I also went through GLWL. The the doctors are Webber, Laker and Weiner all at Harper Hospital. I had my surgery with Webber on 9/12. I would say I am mostly happy with my experience. My only issues: I was not impressed with the Nursing staff at Harper after surgery. Very slow!!!! An orderly took me to a room from recovery, the nurse showed up 2 hours later and said she didn't know I was there! Then called for pain meds at 4pm, a new nurse comes in at 6 and said she didn't get the message. I also hated the little speaker things on the beds that interrupt your rest every time the nurses call to eachother. Also, Dr Webber never showed up Saturday morning to discharge me. It was a resident, whom gave me no presciptions to take home and no paperwork. Said you're all set....So, just don't schedule on a Friday.... Other than that, The price is right for self pay in Michigan 10,700. I am up and doing great one week out. I've lost 13 pounds since the day before my surgery. Good luck with your research.
  7. I am one week out, I had my surgery 9-12. I usually do 3 8oz protein shakes a day and sip them over 15-20 minutes with no trouble. I am tired of plain water and use flavored mix-ins a lot. the K2O protien water is really good! I bought the mixed berry and will be going to get more today, they add another 5 grams protein to your totally for the day while helping you get your fluids.

    5 days Post-Op!

I had my surgery 9-12 and feel I am doing pretty well. The pain under my left collar bone must be gas, that is the only thing I can think of. It hurts ALOT. Sometimes is worse than others. Hurts when I breathe deeply also. When should this go away does anyone think? It's been a week... I have lost 13lbs since the day before my surgery, but have a feeling that is mostly water. I do try to get in enough fluids during the day, but it is hard when combatting the fluid loss from being in the bathroom so often. I am on mostly fuids, but have had a few things, mashed potatoes one day, some pudding another day. I even got brave and had some macaroni salad yesterday that I made to take camping this weekend. All in all, I feel everything is going great, and was well prepared for the issues from reading other peoples' posts on here before my surgery. This site is a great learning tool and everyone considering getting banded should know about it! Good luck everyone!!!

What is your surgery date? Let's keep a list.

I will also be at Harper with Dr. Webber on the 12th. Getting very excited and nervous. I am going alone because my husband has a job interview saturday morning. Not very feasible to have two cars in Detroit. Hope they will release me in the morning on my own. My mom will be with the kids. Good luck!!!
  10. Hi Janine. I am just 35 minutes away from you in Midland. I will be banded on Sept 12 in Detroit at Harper Hospital. I have not seen many people near me and it was nice to see someone so close for a change. Good luck and much success!!

    Really starting to worry

I am worried too. My surgery is Sept 12. I haven't done very well on my 2 week pre-op diet. I have lost 8 pounds this month, so I'm hoping that will be enough. I wish you could tell if your liver was too big, that they did a test or a scan or something so you would know ahead of time and really have some push to get going. Good luck everyone!

What is your surgery date? Let's keep a list.

    Sept 12 in Detroit, MI:smile2:
  13. I am to be banded Sept. 12. I plan on taking 3 weeks off. I have a very physically demanding job and work shift work. I'm looking forward to the time off, even though the pay will only be a base 40 hour week. I'm used to a lot of overtime and it will be rough, but we'll manage!!
  14. Well, I'm to be banded Sept. 12, and starting to think about stocking up for pre and post surgery. My Dr is saying a two week pre surgery diet. Protein shake for breakfast and lunch, small meal with protien and veggies for dinner, no red meat. I'm thinking hmmm... if I had a regular life and schedule that would work. I'm up 16-18 hours or more a day with overtime, I work a swingshift too. This is really gonna suck!!! I'm starting to wonder how I'm going to cope and have any energy with that little food in such a long time span. Like right now I'm on afternoon shift. I've been up since 7am when the 2yr old gets up, went to work at 3pm and I'll be hear until 3am, then home to sleep until 7-8am and over and over. Does anyone have any suggestions, or am I just whining too much?:cursing:

Why did my cholesterol level go up?

Does it make sense that when you are losing weight there is more cholesterol circulating in your body and blood stream, that is going to be flushed out by your kidneys and liver and such? I think that would be a reason that your cholesterol level goes up while you are actively losing weight, because what is fat but cholesterol?? Just a thought, but it kind of made sense to me when I thought about it. :cursing:
  16. I am going to be banded on Sept 12 at Great Lakes Weight Loss in Detroit, MI. I was wondering if anyone knows what the typical work/lifting restrictions are? I work at a chemical company in Michigan and have a very physically demanding job, typically lifting 50lbs repeatedly everyday, on/off forktrucks, lots of stairs, bending and twisting. I also have a 33lbs 2 year old that I'm kind of leary about how I'm going to deal with him post op also. Any suggestions or help would be great! I'm getting very excited....

Where are all the Michigan people at??

Is there anyone from the mid-michigan area? I'm to be banded Sept 12 by Dr Webber. Any info would be great. Thanks:biggrin2:

    Hello Michigan

I am going to Dr. Webber on Sept 12 for my banding. I'd like to know other people's opinions too.....
  19. I will be seeing Dr. Webber on Sept 12 for my surgery. I am meeting the Dr and having the tests/ surgery on the same day. The office staff have been very helpful and tentative about answering all of my questions, I am very pleased so far.
  20. Check out www.greatlakesweightloss.com. They are in michigan, and the cost is only slightly more than in mexico. I'm having mine done by Dr. Webber in September. I figured by the time I bought plane tickets and such, the cost would end up the same. Just a thought...
  21. I had my gall bladder out a couple of years ago, and let me tell you, when you have an attack, you know it. It was more painful for me than 18 hours of hard labor!! It feels like someone has you in a vice and is squeezing like a huge bearhug right under your breasts all the way around to your back. You can't stand up straight. I was curled in a ball on the bed because I couldn't stretch out. I was scheduled to have my gall bladder out the next day and ended up in the ER the night before my surgery, what kind of luck is that!! But the surgery to have it removed is a piece of cake, I put in a new kitchen floor myself two days after. Good luck and try not to eay greasy foods until you have it taken care of, what set mine off was chips and salsa at the mexican restaurant!!

    period on surgery day?

If you are on the pill, just go directly to your next pack without taking the dummy pills, that should work. I've done this for years when I had something going on during that week, vacation or what have you... Hope this helps. Or if you're not, why not start them??

    Shoe Size Disappointment

The same thing happened to me!! Every time I had a child my feet got one size bigger. I know with extra weight though, you are stretching your arches out flat, so your feet are longer. I am hoping that as i lose weight my arches will arch back up a touch!!!

How to Avoid Loose Skin After Surgery

I too am a little worried about this. I lost 100lbs about 5 years ago on adkins, had another baby and gained it all back. I didn't have any loose skin then, but I was only 26 too. Now I'm 32 and the same 100+ have to come off. I think I am going to aim for around 150lbs end weight. That way I'll still be a little full figured, and probably not have that much loose skin, because it will still be filled out a little.
  25. I am scheduled for Sept 12 with Dr Webber. I tried to get in on August 22, but shannon said the doctor was off that day. I was hoping to move it up some. Must you have someone to drive you home I wonder? I will only have a 23 hour stay, and if my husband takes me, is he allowed to stay the night?
