Did you tell people that you were having the lap band inserted? I am still in 2 minds about whether I want people to know (other than my husband and my parents) I don't want to be put under extra pressure. If people know then I guess they would be at me to know how much I have lost (or not lost) each time they saw me. I give myself enough stress, I don't need the extra help- iykwim If you haven't told anyone, how did you go about getting time off work? My issue is I am about to start a new job in 2 weeks and I would feel awful if I straight away had to ask for time off. What did you do?

Thanks for the welcome! I spoke to my DH this afternoon (he had had a few drinks so was in a very happy mood, so I thought I would take advantage of it Anyway, his reaction surprised me. He said he was surprised I hadn't thought of this much earlier (I told him I had but I wasn't as serious as I am now). He does have lots of questions about everything- mainly why I think this will be any different to all the other times I have tried to loose weight. He definitely wants to go to an information seminar with me to hear more from the professionals. I have showed him lots of lap band forums and blogs I have found but he isn't really into reading so would prefer someone to talk to him. I am more than fine with this. He does have slight concerns with the costs involved as we don't know how much we will be out of pocket yet, but I said this will improve my health greatly and it will be all worth it. So it looks like I am joining the lap band brigade:thumbup: Oh I didn't realise it could be claimed at tax time too. Has anyone used their superannuation for payments also- I think I recall it being mentioned on another site. We always get a nice bonus at tax time thanks to Family tax benefits so this is also another option I could use. Coo- We must have been posting at the same time. If you are referring to me thinking I would be only $5 out of pocket that is wrong. I just went back and read my original post again and realised I left the k off my $5. So really I expect to be about $5000 out of pocket.

Hello Aussies!:smile2: I'm Nicole and new to this site. I am new to banding and I am at the early 'finding out more' stage. I need to loose around 40kgs to be at my ideal weight. Like everyone here I have tried every diet under the sun without much success. Anyway, I am 32 from Melbourne, have 3 greats kids and a very supportive DH (although I haven't spoken to him about this yet), I wanted to find out all the info first. But I think he will be fine. His main concern will be the money. We have health insurance with MBF (anyone have them?), so I am expecting about $5k to be out of pocket. We could always get a credit card for this I would assume. Enough about me, hope all is well Nic ETA- I forgot to put a K on the end of my 5

Hello everyone, Not sure if anyone posts in this thread anymore- it is quite quiet! Anyway I am Nicole, from Cranbourne and I am just starting out with this banding procedure. I am hoping to attend my first seminar next month and go from there. I am thinking of going to The Avenue or Knox Private- they seem to be the most popular for my area. Anyway I would love to chat with everyone Nic
