  1. Thank you for the well wishes! I'm on day 2 post op. I was in alot of pain Thursday and had really bad gas that I just could not get out. I walked and walked and still nothing until Friday evening. I am feeling much better now.
  2. I'm in my pre-op diet stage. My surgery is March 17th. I'm doing exactly what I'm suppose to and I'm so hungry and I haven't lost any weight. What's wrong with me??
  3. First, I'm sorry about the lack of information. My pre-op diet started March 3rd. It is 2 protein shakes and 2 meals of lean protein with veggies, no salt, and as low carbs and sugars as possible. Second, what is a sidebar?

Hi, I'm getting the sleeve done March 17th. I've ordered some variety packs to try now so I'll know more of what I like after surgery. What are your favorite products (or not so favorite) and why?

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I had my pre-op appointment yesterday. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I'm starting to get nervous. I'm scared of something going wrong. I have the absolute worst luck when it comes to my health. I mean, how many 41 year olds do you know that has narcolepsy, lupus, degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis, significant c8 neuropathy, asthma, pseudotumor cerebri, a straightened lordosis, and about 20 other things (this would end up a book instead of a post). I'm just scared I'm gonna come out worse than when I went in. Has anyone else felt such fear the closer you got to surgery?
  6. Has anyone tried the vitamin patches? I asked my nurse if I could get the patches and use them instead of the chewable and she said my doctor wants me to get the chewable. Do you absorb the chewable better than the patch? I would think the patch would be OK since that's less medications in my stomach (I currently take 8 medications for other health conditions).

    Saggy skin after wls

Compression garments! That's what I was trying to say, lol
  8. So, I'm a little worried about the whole saggy skin thing. I had the lap band done and lost about 70 lbs in 5 months. I didn't really have any saggy skin, just a little "pouch" in my stomach area. But my arms and legs were fine. Fast forward to now, I had to have it removed for medical reasons and I'm nervous for the weight loss after my bypass. I'm older now and have alot more health problems that have prevented me from being active. I was looking at getting those arms sleeve wraps to see if they might help during weight loss. And maybe one of those things that look like Spanx. Has anyone tried any of these? What has worked for you on helping with saggy skin?

Has anyone used the vitamin patches?

I like that! "Not as good as capsules, but better than nothing"
  10. Yes! Thank you for putting it that way "helpful to share so that others have a realistic view of the risks instead of assuming sunshine and rainbows". I was prepared for getting the sleeve. Dr told me yesterday I have to have bypass so now I'm reading all of the bypass forums to get a realistic view on how that's going to go. I know everything surgery can have complications but I want to be prepared for things that can happen that way I'm not panicking over something that might be normal. Or to even be prepared for something not so normal (then at least I'd know what to do right away and know what can possibly come of it). I like to hear all of the good AND bad!
  11. Hi, so I am scheduled to have the sleeve done on March 17th. I had an endoscopy done this morning and because of the results, my doctor has changed my surgery to bypass. I've learned everything about the sleeve and have prepared for it. Now I'm going to have to start over and prepare for the bypass. I'd appreciate any advice on things to be prepared for, preop and post op, and anything else you can think of!! Thanks!

Has anyone used the vitamin patches?

I do, too! Maybe after the first month or so post op I'll ask my doctor if I switch to the patches. Then do blood work and see if levels are good.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

Just had my endoscopy this morning. Because of eoe and gastritis (and previous history of ibs and gerd), I've been switched from the sleeve to the bypass. I'm a little more nervous now. 😬
  14. What were your problems, if you don't mind me asking?
  15. Thanks! I wanted the sleeve because it wasn't as complicated as the bypass. I guess I'm just nervous that something is going to go wrong. When it comes down to "that 1% of people have this or that happen", I usually have it happen. I hear all the time from my doctors "it's rare but we'll check to make sure". Then I'm diagnosed with that "rare" thing.
  16. Eoe and gastritis, both having batches of eosinophils but my esophagus being worse. I was diagnosed with ibs and Gerd about 5 years ago and have been on medications since.

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I'm doing great! I made this cabbage veggie soup and have it and protein for lunch and a regular lean protein with veggies for dinner. I don't get burned out on it because I don't eat it for B, L, and D. There's days when I only eat the soup. That's just because I really like it and that's all I wanted that day. Then there's days like yesterday when I want to eat everything I look at, lol. Those days I just do bites of each. That way I get my craving out of the way but don't overindulge and still get my protein and veggies in.
  18. My surgeon said the same thing. I had my lap band removed August 2021. I'm having the sleeve done next month. I wanted it all done in one surgery but he said my stomach had to recover from having the band removed and it would help with scar tissue. Plus, I had a hernia in my first surgery that didn't show up on my xray and it was attached to my lung. So, my current surgeon wanted to make sure I didn't have any more surprises come up.

Thank you all for the great suggestions! I drink atkins and premiere protein shakes right now but my dr says I won't be able to after surgery because they aren't whey protein isolate. Has anyone else come across this? Only being able to do whey protein isolate instead of blend?

My surgery is scheduled for March 17th. I'm getting the sleeve done. I'm starting a liver shrinking diet tomorrow and doing protein shakes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
