Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Snowgator replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hello everybody, Today was the BEST DAY! I met with Dr. K. for my consult. Felt like I already knew him and his staff from your comments and the picnic photos. Everyone was so very nice and professional. I am a "GO" for surgery 9/3 at 1:00 p.m. I am so delighted that it all worked out like I hoped it would. You know, as I wrote that big check, I did not have one moment of hesitation. I think this is one of the smartest ways I have ever spent a big chunk of money in my life. My friend who is also a RN volunteered to pick me up after surgery and stay overnight with me at my house to be sure all is well. So nice when things turn out just right!!!!! Thanks everybody for your good wishes and support. BTW, tofu tastes like whatever you put it in...it really absorbs sauces and spices. Happy weekend! -

Adork, i think we have the same hair stylist! My cut last Sat. was the style I wanted, but waaaaaay too short for my liking. The color was almost what I wanted, but 1 or 2 shades too dark. So, I sort of think this is the hair cut I want and hair color I want in about 2 months when it gets longer and fades...LOL! I went to a seminar last night by Dr. Tom Brown at P/SL. He is awesome, and it was very informative. TOMORROW (finally!!!) is my consult with Dr. K - yeah!!! -

Kimmie K, oh gosh your comments from your Dad were so terrible. I'm sorry! My dad did a lot of the same thing. He passed away 2 years ago, and unfortunately, a lot of my memories are him giving me grief about being overweight. I'm sure that is not how he wanted to be remembered. Sorry you have been denied 3x. My insurance also does not cover the surgery. Have you considered going self-pay with Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver? There is a huge thread on here all about him. It is just under 10K, and everyone seems to love him. My consult is Friday. Good luck girl, and keep your chin up. -

Hi Everybody, Glad to have found your new Dr. K posting site! You're right, the other one is getting pretty long and sometimes hard to navigate through. When is the next Red Robin get together? Would love to meet you all. -
Oh that is so great, I'm happy for you! My consult is this Friday and i can hardly wait. So nervous and excited.

In my 2nd year of marriage, my husband (now my ex) who is 6'2 and 300# said he realized he just didn't feel lust for me because of my body size, and that he realized he should have married someone who was more like his first wife (a toothpick) because he can't help that he is just more attracted to thin women. And that was the beginning of the end. That was over 2 years ago, but it still hurts. JERK! -

Hey all, Purple lady, fantatic job on the video - wow all of you are so pretty! Nice to put some faces with the names. Hope to be there with you next summer. Adok, thanks for keeping track of us. Like herding cats, huh? Mal,good to hear the update. Be patient, progress comes slow with spinal cord injuries, but it does happen. I am on pins and needles until my consult with Dr. K on Friday. It can not get here soon enough!!! -
Hi Brad, WOW thanks for the very prompt post on your surgery. That is great that you are doing so well. Best of luck to you.

I don't see why you would not qualify, unless you have some other medical condition that would make surgery a risk. I would definitely go to the seminar and schedule a consult with a MD. Good luck!

Hi Everybody, I want to hear all about the BBQ! What was it like? Adork, I'm not going to start the diet and/or exercise until my pre-op appointment, as my BMI is on the cusp and don't want to go under. But next week I'll start 3x week for 30 minutes. Welcome, Vail Girl, and nice to meet you MissMonaz, too! -

hI aLL, I'm not going to the bbq today - didn't feel right about crashing the party since I'm not an official patient of Dr. K. yet. Also, i'm really not a heat person, and it is 98 right now! Adorkable, please put me down for 5 lbs for the challenge. I think that is a reasonable amount to lose during the preop diet. I got a rad new haircut and color today, so I think the official change has begun! -
Christina, Absolutely! Also, look for user name "Tally". She is from Tallahassee, and also is having surgery on "our" day with Dr. K! My consult is 8/8, and it just can not come fast enough for me. I am so tired of living in this body, and am very anxious for change. i got a new haircut and color today, so guess I am stepping in that direction! Hope you're having a great weekend. I'll send you a private message today.

Brandy, I did not know about the BBQ, not sure if it would be ok for me to go since I"m only a patient on the books so far, and have not had my consult yet. What do you think? -

You gals and your wild banana talk is cracking me up over here! This is good news, perhaps I can have a love life again when I slim down. Munchkin, congrats on the new scrubs. Wow, a smaller size already - it is so fun to have new stuff to wear to work. My current favorite scrub top has curious George on it, makes me happy to wear it. Of course I would love it more in a smaller size for a smaller me. Happy weekend everybody, hope you can avoid the heat - 105 right now in Denver -

Thanks all for the advice on the no carb diet. My consult is 8/8, so that will give me 3 weeks to get my liver in tip-top shape. At this point if he told me I had to exist on nothing but brussel sprouts I would say okey-dokey. I am so tired of feeling the way I feel every day. I even have jewelry that doesn't fit! Isn't that crazy. -

Mini, that is hysterical!!!!! They would have to be baggy jeans with an elastic waist - I can only imagine Erma Bombeck writing a funny column about that idea. Patty, great job on your progress!!! Deb had asked me if I was on low carb yet for Dr. K. At what point before surgery does he ask you to start that? Should I be doing it now? Any rules about the diet, or just "low carb"? -
