    Taking Antibiotic Capsules?

My doctor said capsules are okay to take, since the gastric juices in your new small upper stomach are strong enough to dissolve the gelatin capsule before it goes into the larger part of your stomach.
  2. That wasn't exactly balanced journalism. hmmmm too bad, just reinforcing some outdated ideas.

Is anyone else starting to get a little Nervous?

yES, YES, YES, getting a little anxious about it all, and have a deep seeded fear "what if I can't be a success at this?" "what if it works for everybody but me?", but then I think rationally about how much education I have had about this, and that I know what steps to take to ensure success. we can do this!!
  5. Hi everybody, 9pd - I would be glad you are at Crown Point. Just in case, it is nice to know that a major hospital is right there for you. Dee - glad you are feeling better. I'm wondering how it will feel looking in the mirror in the future. I'm kind of weird that way, I think I look ok when I look in the mirror, but when I see photos of myself am horrified at how fat I look. Mini, - your grandson is soooo cute. I'm also with you on the thong thing. I have never had one myself, since I don't think they are made in my size (HA!) but who knows what the future holds Dee and Shelbi - so nice that you are rn's also, I'm really thinking about changing areas, have always wanted to do preop/pacu, and might have an opportunity at a Denver hospital soon. Any thoughts on that? brandy, what did you decide about WW? My best friend has done awesome and reached goal with WW and still goes weekly. It is never felt quite right for me, though Adork, are you ok? how did your surgery go? Patti, i feel your pain about the MRI. After freaking out in one years ago, now i can only use the giant square one for obese folks in NW Denver, or opensided MRI. And even with that I have to take major sedatives, and have someone in the room with me at all times to hold my hand and distract me. I know I know, I am such a baby. It is the pits having to be in there, though. I'm glad you were able to hang in there for the entire time. Marcy, thanks for sharing about Alaska. I have always wanted to go there. Good for you getting all that exercise getting wood ready for winter. have a great day all! Oh, my big victory - finally lost 2 pounds, I know, no big deal, but this is the first time in forever that the scale has moved down instead of up. Today is day 3 of my pre-op low carb diet. Oh, once you are healed from surgery, I was kind of wondering about a couple things: -can you have caffeine? -do you have protein drinks between meals? this was confusing, as Dr. K told me no between meal snacking, or have a solid protein such as a couple bites of chicken, but the printed material says to have 8 oz of protein drink between each meal -can you chew gum or have mints?
  6. Hi Lenore, Thanks for doing the update! Wow, so many septembers now, that is super. Good luck everybody, and those of you on the 1st and 2nd please post asap after your surgery so we know what to expect! p.s. Tally is 9/3
  7. As for the port bulge and/or scars, my daughter had a pretty funny idea, she says I should invent a tale about skiing some black diamond run, and taking an incredible wipe out down some rocks and trees, etc., so I can say "oh, that, well let me tell you about the INCIDENT!" LOL....
  8. great thread, here's my two cents will not miss: -wearing spanx -having jewelry that doesn't fit -being embarassed when someone wants to buy me a gift and asks my size -not being able to buckle the top buckle of ski boots -sweaty inner thighs and having to wear a split slip with all my skirts -never having a second date -starting a new diet on Mondays -avoiding telling anyone my weight, even doctors -being chunky in Colorado where everyone is such a darn fitness buff -hating the summer months -having my makeup run from getting sweaty before I even get to work -matronly swim suits
  9. Stephanie, thanks for the tips about mrsa and taking scrubs off immediately, I will definitely do that.
  10. I work on a med/surg unit. Do you think 10 days off work will be enough for me to return to full duty? thanks so much!
  11. Green C, 59 pounds in 6 months is amazing. I'm so proud of you and can only hope for that kind of success. You should reward yourself with a day at a spa or something for all your hard work. Tropicana, no, Dr. K did not ask for proof of my comorbidities. He did not charge me for the consult, so maybe you should just schedule a phone consult to see if you are eligible. I am starting my preop diet tomorrow, low carb, so everybody please wish me luck. I made hardboiled eggs tonight, and packed my lunch and snacks for tomorrow so am all prepared.

Special K makes a protein water that is clear. My doc says no protein shakes until you move on past clears for a few days.

    Hello from Mile High!!

Also you can lay your back flat on the floor, and elevate your legs on a couple pillows. This will work to move the gas bubbles from your shoulder. Also, try a heating pad on your shoulder.
  14. Tropicana, You can be BMI of 35 if you have a comorbidity: depression, joint pain, diabetes, etc. Check his website for details.
  15. Okay, so did anybody else see in the news today that during the Friday night opening of the Olympics, the little 9 year old girl singing "Ode to the Motherland" wasn't singing at all? She was lip-synching, because 7 year od Yang Peiyi was deemed too unattractive to have her face on TV and in front of the world. Okay, so I had to google a photo of this little girl. She is completely adorable. Yes, she's a little chubby, yes, her baby teeth are crooked. But she is adorable. What does it say about our international society that such a thing is allowed to happen. And haven't each of us had our own little mini humiliation somewhere over the years regarding our weight. It is just horrible, and I feel sick for this little girl who had to hide behind a curtain.

Good luck Samantha and Vegas Girl - tomorrow is your new "birthday", I'm sure you will both do great!!!
  17. Hi Munckkin, so sorry about your divorce. Been there, and it is never easy, especially when you have extenuating circumstances. I hope your ex makes a full recovery. Adork, hope your surgery went well and that you are feeling better and are not in any pain. Lap, hang in there with the PT. I'm going now also for a back injury and it sure helps, but is not fun in the process. Lifesaver, you go girl!!!! Enjoy dating, and so proud of you for your hiking success, that is awesome. Do many of you find that having this surgery makes you reevaluate everything? I'm kind of looking at this as a new lease on life, and figure now is the time to consider some other changes as well.

    6 month bandaversary!!!!

I love hearing that ! Good for you. It is so encouraging for those of us who have the surgery approaching soon.
  19. Question for those of you near or at goal weight: Is your port easily visible under you skin? If you have a swimsuit or other snug fitting top on, can you see a bump? Anyone willing to post a photo of their port bump? I am nervous about this pre-op, and thought it would help to learn about what happens when you reach goal weight. Thanks in advance for sharing

    Very Depressed,...

you might ask your doc for a Rx for lidocaine patches, you can keep them on for 12 hours at a time and they are great for pain, they are about 4"x6" and you can cut them as you need
