It's been 12 day's, Why am I still so tired
Snowgator replied to Guene's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What you are experiencing is totally normal. It is from the anesthesia. It takes at least 4 weeks to get it all out of your system. Hang in there, it will get better soon. -

HOT TUB? Did anybody ask Dr. K how long you have to wait after surgery before going in a hot tub or pool? I have had the week from you-know-where, and really would like to go in my hot tub. Today, went to car dealership for a new headlight bulb and an oil change.....$900 later... you know how that goes Adork, Love your photos with your hubby. He's adorable and you two look great together. Mini, I"m in a snit and refusing to get on the scale. Let me check in with you after I get my first fill next week. Munch, it sounds like your mom is freaking out. Does she have a therapist or anybody she can talk to about her anxiety with having a child in the military? As a mom, I can only imagine.... Tally, look at your ticker! you Have made so much progress already! Prty, thanks for the compliment on the lipstick. Have you read the book "How not to look old"? My girlfriend literally dragged me in to barnes and Noble and forced me to buy it. Great tips on not getting your look outdated. Well that's it girls, glad it is the weekend. I was so freaked out at the dealership that I left my briefcase there, so have to go back first thing in the morning...grrrr. So, any advice on that hottub would be great. My surgery scars look very sealed to me. -

I completely ignored my ex after he dumped me 2.5 yrs ago. Has been the best decision ever. My Dad said, "just write him off", and I did. Buffet concerts are sooo much fun! have you read his books? There are too many characters and I just can't keep track of his plots. At our hospital we have a policy against dating patients. She should be reported. YES! My throat hurt so bad for 3 days. I got desperate, and had my daughter buy me that spray that tastes horrible, but numbs the back of your throat. Also had a lot of popsicles. Tally, don't forget that bikini you and I are going to make a million dollars designing that has the wide band to cover our scars! Have a great night, everybody! -

Hi Deb, Glad to hear you are doing ok after you fill. It was great to meet you! Munch, I know I"m in the minority here, but I love the gray one. I can tell it would really show off your shape. Go for it! Adork, good to hear from you. That is weird about the fill levels. I am feeling fat fat fat. Went to a charity event tonight, did not like how I looked in my dress, but really didn't have time after work to fuss around with trying on other stuff. This one fit, but I just felt lumpy in it. And of course the issue yet again that I did not have a date for this event. Sorry, just feeling whiney and sorry for myself. I am frustrated with this bandster hell thing, have no restriction, hungry as per usual, and eating the wrong things. I want a fill, and i want a ticker that moves in the right direction already!!!! (my 1st fill is next week) -
CHange in body odor
Snowgator replied to murphmann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This can happen for a variety of reasons. The cure is pretty simple. Buy 3 different brands of deodorant other than the type you are using now. Use a different one every day. I just put the one I use in the morning behind the other two so I can keep track. You'll notice a difference right away. -
Are you keeping your lap band a secret, or telling everybody?
Snowgator posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As my date grows closer, I am leaning toward only telling a few close friends about my surgery. I suppose this is due to embarassment, that I could not lose weight the "normal" way, whatever that means. Also, I've had a lifetime of comments from family, and just do not want to go there. Is anybody else hesitating to spill the beans to friends, coworkers, etc? -

Prty and Shelbi, My mom says you spend the first half of your life accumulating stuff, and the next half trying to get rid of it! ha! Prty, congrats on the improved waistline already - you gals are so buff and athletic! I can hardly mow the lawn without exhaustion. well, in my desire for more stuff...LOL...am perusing craigslist for a new coffee table. Tired of how my living room looks, and thought i'd spruce it up a little! Hey Denver area girls (and those willing to travel) ....i know this is far ahead, but how about instead of a December Tuesday night red robin night we do a potluck and $5 gift exchange? I live in SE Denver and would be willing to host at my place! What do you think? 12/9 maybe? -
What Kind of Soup Are U Eating During The Mushie Stage?
Snowgator replied to speck's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go to Whole Foods or other good store near you and get their salad bar or deli soups, then take home and put in the blender. Spinach, celery and broccoli are no problem as long as you blenderize first. -
About that mushy stage
Snowgator replied to BeckyinTn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During mushies, here's what I had: breakfast, protein drink or oatmeal, cream of rice, cream of wheat, grits with shredded cheddar lunch/dinner: cottage cheese, tuna salad, chicken salad, creamed soups that I had put in blender first, mashed potatoes, Wendy's chili put in the blender first, canned carrots, applesauce snacks: jamba juice, jello good luck! -

I don't have any PACU experience. Just something I always wanted to do. This would be my PRN job. My full time job isin HR. I prefer the sex&thecity rabbit! RN here! She is a princess! Happy Birthday! I used to be in ICU. That is a tough job, you really have to know your stuff. Yes, your health comes first, for sure. I hope you get the job, it sounds so high tech. Rene, thanks, I did find some protein powder at whole foods, their 325 brand in vanilla, it is very good. I'm not doing a shake even every day though. Maybe that will change after my 1st fill. Thanks for the encouragement...I am ready to start losing weight. This makes me soooo glad I did not tell people about my surgery, as it would not be fun to have others asking now, or wondering why I look the same. The good news is that it has been 2.5 weeks now, and I really do feel great, the anesthesia has completely worn off, and i'm only a little bruised still at my port site. The other incisions are fading fast. Oh mini, go ahead, your among friends! -

Hey all, Mini, no weight loss for me this week - bandster hell time here. Brandy, wow, fantastic news about your hubby - congrats. Munch, Count me in for the girls weekend. how about some swanky spa type place in Scottsdale, AZ? drinks, massages, pedicures, and no men to annoy us! sounds like heaven Nurses here - great news, I got an interview for the PRN PACU job I've been wanting. Interview is week after next. I'm hoping to do every other Saturday like I do now in med/surg. I think I am too old for med/surg anymore..and have always wanted to do Pacu but never got the chance. Have a great weekend everybody! -

Well, I saw Dr. K today, along with those two medical students or residents or whoever they are who just follow behind him and don't talk. My vein in my arm sclerosed from the IV medication during surgery, so it is no big deal. I can apply warm compresses, and it should go away eventually. Brandy, I'm glad to hear your hubby made it through the surgery okay. I hope the upcoming news is all good for you. How is your band? Mal, That's great that your son's friend is able to enjoy the poster over his bed, and feels like snacking on candy. All good signs. Also super that you were able to get a fill appointment with your busy schedule. Lifesaver, we're meeting deboregon at Great Atlanta Bread Company in Aurora Town Center if you want to join us. And yes, let's plan an October RR night for sure! Munch, thanks for posting your photo, you look so fab! You nurses are cracking me up, love those posts!!! -

Today is day 14 for me, and I am on regular food now. My doc wants to have patients progress asap to regular, I did clears 2 days, then liquids for about 3, then mushes for the rest until yesterday. I am still pretty cautious about what I'm picking to eat, though. Breads seem to be the hardest, that and chicken. Are you still losing weight at this point? I am at a standstill. Looking forward to that 1st fill.

Lotza, congrats on hiking a mountain! you gals on here are sooooo athletic it is impressive Adork, sorry about your bad fill experience. You were so smart to head right back to the office. I'm a little anxious, but overall am looking forward to going in for my 1st fill. Brandy, how is your band? and how is your hubby doing? Munch, I agree 100% with adork, you know your body, and if you think something is wrong keep chirping until somebody hears you and does something about it Prty, yes I did get the low profile port. Dr. K's wasn't thrilled about the suggestion, but reluctantly agreed with the understanding on my part that the this port is harder to find when it comes time to do a fill Well gang, I have an unexpected visit to see Dr. K tomorrow. After my surgery, my right upper arm was bruised, but I didn't think too much about it. They had to take my blood pressure about a million times, since the nurse could not hear it, and also that arm had my IV. It was still bruised when I went in for my 1 week follow up visit, but I didn't mention it because who cares about a stupid bruise. Well, now it still hurts, even more, and you can feel a hardened area underneath, and the skin is red on top. So, I called the office today and they are getting me in tomorrow to have him look at it. This is just my luck, some dumb thing happening. So wish me luck on whatever this stupid thing is under my skin! I am also not a happy camper in bandster hell or bandster purgatory or whatever I am in. Some days I am stuffed, some days I am starving, and I am not losing weight. Grrr... -

If anybody's interested I got the difference in dimensions between the Allergan standard port (1) and the low profiile one (2). Dimensions are in inches: height 1: .585 2: .515 base 1: 1.2 2: .990 top diameter 1: .865 2: .650 -
Hey there samurai's, Is anybody else in bandster hell, or perhaps in bandster purgatory yet? I was banded 9/4, and my appetite came back with a vengeance 7 days later on 9/11. Of course that was my first day back at work, the anniversary of my Dad's passing, etc., etc., so not the easiest day anyway. I am hungry between meals, feel like I can eat more than a cup for sure, and try to eat slow, but end up with a stomach ache after a meal. My doc has me on soft foods now, and I can advance to a regular diet at day 14. How are the rest of you coping? I really do not want to gain weight and lose the little bit of progress that I have made so far. I'm still bruised, sore, and tire easily.

Brandy, Sending positive thoughts your way! My girlfriend had this surgery last summer. Research has shown that chewing gum frequently after that type of surgery helps restore bowel activity, so you may want to stock up at the hospital gift shop. My friend tried it, and felt it helped her. -

Brandy, I hope your band is right where it should be. Good luck! Good luck to your DH too. Munch, I'm sorry to hear your port hurts all the time. Mine hurts a lot now too, but I figured I"m just bruised from the surgery. I love the term "shit elves", will have to keep that one in mind for work! -
