    Vitamins

Hey all, I got VSG in August 2022. I've lost over 150lbs and just found out I'm 5 weeks pregnant (first time!). I've spoken to my surgeon, nutritionist and obgyn, but no one had a solid recommendation for prenatal. My surgeon said to take 2 prenatal vitamins which will give me what I need, while my obgyn said to compare my bariatric multivitamin to prenatal and if possible, stick with what I've been using. I do have a prescription for folic acid that I take daily which is why I assume the obgyn is not entirely worried about the prenatal itself. They also discussed making sure there's not too much iron which could lead to constipation. Anyways, could you guys share what you did or what was recommended to you? I currently take bariatric choice once daily multivitamin. Would also love to know what your daily regiment was (ex: prenatal, calcium chew, etc). Thanks so much!

    New Jersey VSG

How exciting! The best thing I can say is trust the process, follow your doctors advice and don't compare yourself to others. In the beginning, I was soo nervous that the surgery wasn't gonna be successful and I kept comparing my first week, months, etc losses to others and I got discouraged. 6 months later and I'm almost 100lbs down and feeling so good! I was fortunate that I had a pretty easy healing process and no adverse effects. Just take it easy in the beginning and listen to your body. If you have any specific questions, I'll try my best to help!

    New Jersey VSG

Hi! Im in NJ and had VSG in August 2022.
  4. Hello, I am in the process of scheduling bariatric surgery. I had to do an at home sleep study which returned confirmed sleep apnea. I was requested to meet with a pulmonologist which I did. He put ina request for a CPAP machine but said there are delays getting them at the current moment so it could be months. Could this delay my surgery? I know what the CPAP machine is for, but do you need to be on it for a specific time ahead off surgery? I was really hoping to schedule surgery following my blood panel and EKG next week. Thank you!
  5. Hi All! I'm scheduled for the sleeve on August 3rd. I'm trying to be proactive and get anything I may need or find useful in the long run. I happened to come across bariatric cook books and honestly I had never thought about this before. Has anyone used these and found them beneficial? If so, any suggestions? Thanks! 🙂
  6. Hi all! I'm almost 2 months post op. I take a chewable bariatric vitamin and calcium combo daily, but just want to make sure there's nothing else that should be added. Thank you!
  7. Hi all! I just had VSG last Wednesday. I was really nervous leading up to it, but am incredibly grateful that recovery has been amazing! Like...dare I say, almost seems too easy? I haven't thrown up, was really only nauseous the following day, pain has been completely tolerable without any pain meds, I'm down 5lbs and i only get gas pains a couple times a day. I'm hitting my protein goal through shakes and bariatric soup and today I even had unsweetened applesauce. Took me a bit to eat, but I had no problems thereafter. I'm not complaining, but I guess I assumed recovery would be more difficult and I would be turned off by food (or thought of food) completely. So many people say how they have to force themselves to eat and it's just not my case. Has anyone else had a similar recovery? Did you still get great results? Is this something I should be worried about. I know this question probly seems silly..and again let me reiterate, I am fortunate and grateful to not be having any serious issues.

    Tracking App

Hi all! I'm having some trouble finding an app that meets my needs. I want to log my food, but I am very much planning to meal prep (so cooking one bigger item, and having it across multiple meals). The issue is that most apps seem great for logging food as consumed, but not creating recipes and dividing into servings so that it's easy to track calories and protein individually. It could be user error, but I tried MyFitnessPal and Fitbit tracking. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    This seems too easy...

Thank you! Admittedly, I've been taking it pretty easy. Not much activity aside from small walks to prevent blood clots. But I'd say I haven't felt sluggish since Saturday. I hope your surgery goes great! ❤️
  10. Hey everyone, Hope you're all doing well! So, I kind of just need to vent for a bit. I know everyone's experience is different and only my Doctor and Surgeon can give medical insight, but I'm hoping someone may have been in a similar situation as I am. So, before I could schedule a surgery date I had to do all the tests. The last step (which I now wish was the first step), was my blood panel. All results came back good, except the blood panel. The results returned showing that my Vitamin D, B12 and folic acid are all low. Easy enough to fix with a supplement. It also showed the my cholesterol was low, so my Doctor said to make sure I am eating healthy fats (avocados, nuts, fish, etc). *Possible TMI --> She also wants me to get an intravaginal ultrasound as she found heightened testosterone levels and yeast in my urine. Ultimately, she wants to rule out PCOS (which was ruled out in my teens, but that was roughly 20 years ago) But then she went on to explain that my A1C test (blood sugar test that shows my average over 3 months) was at a 10, while normal is 5.6 or less. With this number, it constitutes as Type 2 Diabetes. Because I have never had issues with this before, she is requesting that I wear a glucose monitoring device (in arm) for 2 weeks and begin a weekly injection called Trulicity. Apparently Trulicity will help lower my blood sugar levels, but also could bring on weight loss as it decreases overall appetite. She is hoping to see improvements in the next 3 months, but until then will not issue the clearance. I understand it is important for me to be healthy as my body will need all it can to heal post-surgery, but I am truly discouraged. 1. I'm angry at myself that I let things get this bad. 2. I'm worried that all my other tests will become null and void, since I'm fairly certain they are only valid for 6 months. Most were done in March and with having to wait at least 3 months - it's really cutting it close. 3. Has anyone been in a similar situation? If my numbers don't come down, does that mean surgery is out of the question? I appreciate the listening ears and any input or advice! Thank you and hope everyone has a wonderful Easter weekend.

    Final Choice

Hello, I have just started the pre-op process, but haven't decided on sleeve or gastric bypass. I met with my surgeon and he explained both surgeries and the potential weightloss, complications, etc, but I'm still on the fence. What made you choose bypass and are you happy with it? Any issues? Would you do it again? Thank you!
  12. Hey guys, Just some details: I've only just met with the surgeon a couple weeks ago and am still completing my appointments and tests. I am female and currently weigh 375lbs and am 5'5. My surgeon said I would have great success with either sleeve or bypass with the bypass yielding most weightloss. I am still very unsure as to which one I want, but am leaning more towards the sleeve since the surgery doesn't seem as intense as bypass. I am nervous, however that I won't have significant weightloss with the sleeve since I am starting at such a high weight. I totally understand I will need to put in work for either one and everybody's body is different. Am I over concerned? Any thoughts or opinions? Thoughts on Sleeve vs. Bypass in terms of surgery and recovery? I truly appreciate any help and insight!

  14. Hello! I have my initial appointment on Friday. Could someone tell me what I should expect? Is it a full examination or just some vitals and then mainly discussion thereafter? If there is a post or another source of information that can help me better understand the process and what to expect, please let me know! Thank you
  15. Hi! I know I've been posting alot lately and appreciate everyone's responses! I am still undecided which surgery I will be getting but am leaning towards the sleeve. I am starting at a higher weight (375lbs) - my surgeon says the sleeve could bring me down to about 230lbs but I guess I'm just looking to see true life results. If you had the sleeve, could you please let me know the following: Starting weight: Current weight: Date of surgery:
  16. Hello, I just had my first appointment a couple days ago (went well!). I now have to get a blood panel, EKG, Chest Xray and Sleep study done. Aside from blood work, I've just never had any of these done. Is this a standard part of the process? Anything I should be worried about. Thank you!
