Friday Morning Weigh-In June 19, 2009
Lezlie replied to Shamrockgirl60's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I forgot to post last week, which was a big fat ZERO for loss. This week only 1/2 pound, so now at 177. -
179.5 last week, 177.4 this week = 2.1 loss for me. I'll take it. I seem to be right on track all of a sudden for meeting or exceeding my July 4th and Bandiversery goals. Woo-Hoo!!:blushing:
-
Forgot to log this one here...only did the weekly one last week... Better late than never. Missed my goal by just 1 pound - I'm not readjusting anything for the long term though, I think it's all doable!
-
Last week I forgot to weigh at home and made the assumption from the doctors scale that I was even (183# -no loss/no gain). So...today when I stepped on the scale and saw 179.5, I was excited and bewildered, trying to remember what I did this week that caused a 3.5# loss. Can't think of anything that stands out, but I sure am happy!

I, in my hurry to get out the door Friday AM to see my primary care physician, forgot to do the "in-the-buff" weigh in I usually do, so...when I got to the Doc's office I weighed there, fully clothed (sans shoes). I was up a pound from last week, but attribute that to the shorts and t-shirt I was wearing, so I'm calling it even - no loss, no gain. On the BIG plus side I am now medication free from the blood pressure medicine I've been on for the last 6 years! Ta Dah!

Your weight loss seems to be right on target, we are all going to lose at slightly varying rates, but you are in the right neighborhood. I have some friends who are vegetarian/vegan and find enough protien at the health food store to make it work for them, if your concerned your not hitting the protien goal or that your carb content is too high talk to someone at the health food store I'm sure they can point you in a good direction. Lastly, if you have been able to do this without getting a fill since November - YOU ARE DOING SPECTACULAR! It's unfortunate that you don't have a good relationship with your doctor, but it is also important that you continue getting fills until you find your sweet spot and then continuing to meet with your physician even after that as the Fluid in the band can sometimes slowly leak out over long periods of time, requiring a lifetime of care and fills from time to time. If your doctor isn't working for you perhaps you can find someone else who can do your followup care.

Congrat's on the dress shopping. I remember the day I first bought a 16 (which I hadn't been in since high school, more than 20 years ago). I was also attending a special event. 3 months later my husband and I were invited to a wedding so I wore the same dress - I was literally swimming in it. Now I'm a size 12 and I think the last time I was wearing this size may have been 7th or 8th grade. It's spectacular!!! For the first time in our relationship (which started in high school) I am also weighing less than my husband. It's a daily game for us now, but a good motivator for him to lose the 15 pounds he needs to drop. I finally have a weight loss buddy in my own house! It's pretty cool! Last week I went to the doctor's office and I've gained an inch and a half in height (has this happened to anyone else). I'm 40 years old, I know it's not growth, I'm wondering if I've just lost enough weight that im not as "compressed" as I used to be...thought it was weird, but it really changed my BMI and goal weight significantly.

Friday Morning Weigh-In May 15, 2009
Lezlie replied to Shamrockgirl60's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Forgot to weigh myself Friday - but I did it first thing Saturday AM - 183.5, down 1.5 pounds from last week. Makes me a happy camper! I don't understand the overnight "Big Losses" either, I wonder if it's because I've drunk enough Water the day prior and flushed myself out well. I know that is one of my bigger weaknesses (not drinking enough water), but when I do it "right" I seem to drop big numbers within a few days?? Just a thought. -
Had a great week, down 2#'s the most I've had in a single week in a long time! Yeah! NSV - For the first time in 25 years of being together, I weigh less than my husband! (OK, so it is only a 1/2 pound, but it is less.)

Thanks for the welcome Misty. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm ready to join this challenge. My bandiversery is August 29th and I will like to have hit the 100# lost mark (since banding) by then...so that means... 5# by Memorial Day 9# more by July 4th and 15# more by August 29th That will put me at 158 and only 14# from goal. I think it's attainable mainly because my banding date is so late in August that it gives me some additional time on the last leg. I get 63 days from July 4th - August 29th. I guess I better start cracking the whip on myself if I'm going to make it! Thanks for the support!

Ladies, Although I haven't been seeking support here since before and right after surgery, I'm now finding that I need to he held accountable to someone - so here goes.... Last Friday I was 187. I'll start logging in weekly to report. My overall weight loss is at 80+ pounds, but has really begun to slow, so perhaps having to broadcast it each week will be a good thing for me. I'm happy where I am now, a size 12 and no longer obese, just overweight, but I still don't particularly feel "healthy." I do have way more energy than ever before and hope that meeting with all of you weekly will help me to lose the weight and gain my health.

Fills and delayed restriction
Lezlie replied to taylorgirl1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I get a fill, I immediately feel restriction and it takes a few days for me to get used to it, then all is good. Each time I get a fill, I unfortunately have to learn how to eat again. SLOW and WELL CHEWED. I seem to forget this between fills, but I get a sudden, swift, and often painful reminder immediately following a fill. The husband says "Even when I remind her she forgets." You would think 8 months out, I'd begin to remember - apparently I'm a slow learner. -
I too have Aetna insurance, but didn't want to jump through all of the hoops required to get them to pay for surgery...God Bless those of you who are willing to do it. Once I made the decision to have surgery I started looking for doctors who offered discounted services for self-pay patients. I was willing to travel to Mexico like Leah, but was very worried about things like aftercare. I instead opted for a US surgeon - he was more expensive than Mexico, but closer to my home so my quality of care IS significantly better. I've had friends go to Mexico and they often don't get fills and treatments as often as they should since it's difficult to take the time, effort and expense to travel south of the border. For anyone seeing WLS, it's important to not only think of the care you will get pre-surgery, during surgery, but post surgery. With a Lap-Band the success of the tool is not in how well you are treated, how great your surgery goes, but in how the tool is managed once surgery is completed. Without great aftercare, your tool may become a very expensive wasted of money. And then does it really matter if you have spent a $200 deductible/co-pay or $15,000...it's still a waste of money. I love my band, but have received great aftercare and understand that the band is not a fix, but a tool that I can use to help me lose the weight I've gained. This last week, I finally made it into a size 12, this was one of my major goals. I'm super pleased with my results, but know and understand that my surgeon was only an assistant to me losing weight, not the cause and effect.

Maybe I need a therapist....
Lezlie replied to rumraisin70's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The funny thing is, as weird as it sounds, you won't be interested in food right after surgery. While you are initially healing, you will feel full all the time. Seeking the help from a behavorist, isn't a bad idea because once the swelling goes down and before your first fill you may be able to successfully eat anything and everything and that isn't good. You have to stick to the recomended diet by your doctor - they are all a little different in their plans, but stick with what your doctor tells you and find a support group to attend if you can. -
I too had a horrible taste in my mouth until I started drinking "enough" water. Ok so it's not as much as I was drinking pre-surgery, but I'm doing WAY better. Had surgery the same day as you.
-
I had one too, but didn't know it. Doc repaired it on surgery date. At one week out I now have no pain, but the first few days were awful! The pain of just breathing was so extreme, I didn't know if I was going to be able to make it without pain meds. By day 5 though it subsided enough that I only needed pain meds to sleep - thank God!

Crazy as it sounds, my wedding rings have fallen off. I can no longer wear them because they are simply going to be too easy to lose. I'm going to wait to resize them for several months. Lezlie

I'm planning on staying in Denver for one night following surgery, I'm just too much of a chicken in case something goes wrong...better safe than sorry on Vail Pass. Thanks for the ino on the staff and surgery center. Drive safely for your fill.

So I guess for all intents and purposes, I'm ready for surgery. It's been a long tough decision for me. I've been thinking about it for years, but finally decided last month to bite the big one (ha! ha!) and just go for it! I'm paying cash so I didn't have to wait for a gazillion insurance denials and approvals. It's great to read everyones advice and gain knowledge from those who have been there. I've read a lot about the pain levels associated with surgery and wonder if anyone has ever given birth by c-section or had any other abdominal surgery prior to banding and what the pain level compares to. I know I have a really high tolerance for pain. With 3 c-sections I had little to no pain meds and was out and about immediately after being released from the hospital. For my middle child, that was less than 18 hours after surgery. Any help from those who have been there.
-
I'm not completely NW, but definately on the Western Slope, I too am looking for knowledge from people who have been there and done that since there are few, if any, doctors in our part of the world who understand banding. I'm also being banded by Dr. K - I've had only good interactions with him and his staff thus far, I expect nothing less through this experience.

Consult 8/25, CO support?
Lezlie replied to ambraberger's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am having my surgery on 8/29 with Dr. K. Although I live in Colorado, I'm much farther away from the Denver area than you are so I'm actually being treated in the same manner as an out of state patient. Decided to have surgery about 6 weeks ago, did consult and nutrition over the phone, I have my pre-op on 8/28 and surgery the next day. It couldn't be any more simple.
