March 2022 Surgery Buddies
Toomany#s replied to LilaNicole20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My procedure was on the 8th. I gained 7 pounds in the hospital from the fluids so needless to say, I felt like a stuffed turkey! I was able to get most of my fluid, protein, and carbs. Today I feel pretty much like normal. I’ve been reading everyone’s posts. Sounds like most are doing well. -
It’s easy to look at the small incisions and try to minimize the surgery, but it’s definitely Major surgery.

Why round three? Did your surgery get cancelled? That’s worse then doing it once. I know we will be on liquids after so I have to keep drinking. I just made some broth because I think it’s the sweetness that’s getting to me from the protein shakes. -

I’m supposed to have four protein shakes per day. I can have up to two sugar free popsicles and low sodium broth. I just have to tough it out for three more days. -

Day four of the liquid diet. I’m struggling a bit and really don’t want to drink anymore. -

My Covid test was today for surgery on the 8th. I’m expecting my brain to pour through my sinuses, lol. -

It’s normal to be scared. Try to focus on how losing excess weight will help your physical difficulties. It certainly sounds like you’ve had more than your share. No one can guarantee that you won’t have any complications, but they are relatively uncommon. I definitely don’t think that you will come out worse. I know it sounds stupid, but try to think positive and hopeful thoughts. You have lots of support on this forum and you can do this! -

Glad your pain level is okay and that your surgery is over. Hopefully you will be well enough to go home tomorrow. Take care. -
I started the second week of pre-op diet yesterday which means only liquids. It’s actually not that bad because I’m full of liquid all the time. My mind tries to tell me that I want something to eat, but I’m truly not stomach hungry. I guess that’s good since the post-op diet is liquids for awhile, too.

Once I finished my pre-op checklist, it was only about a month before surgery date so not bad. I started the process in September, but I was responsible for some delays so I think that it could have been a shorter process. I postponed a couple of appointments due to the high Covid in the fall and then had a death in the family. Which surgery are you thinking of doing? It sounds like it won’t take you long to have a date being already half through your checklist. -

I saw Dr. Cronk today for my last pre-op visit. He is super nice, he answered all my questions and explained what to expect. My surgery is the 8th. He has done 500 surgeries using the robotic technique. I’m also excited to hear that the hospital rooms are private ones post surgery. Have you decided to see Dr. Sanborn or Dr. Cronk? -

I’m on the 8th. I’m getting nervous about the pain and recovery as well. Telling your friends and family is totally your choice. You can just say that you are losing weight for your health using high protein, low carb. Good luck to you. -

Hi LilaNicole20, It’s nice to have a surgery buddy. I’m feeling fine, in the middle of tiling a floor. I have 3 protein shakes plus one meal per day for this week. Lean meat 3-4 oz, 2 cups non starchy vegetables. Next week is 4 protein shakes per day. Clear liquids day before surgery. I pray the days fly by as well. -

Hi Jessnole, Good luck with your upcoming surgery. Mine is March 8th. I started my two week diet today. I’m excited and nervous as well. -
Blossom Bariatrics in Vegas has an all inclusive self pay program. They include your hotel, all pre-op testing, and surgery in their own surgery center. You can check out their website for more info. My surgery with them went very well. I didn’t lose much weight, but that was totally due to me. Others who had surgery at the same time did great and lost lots of weight.

would anybody in NC like $1,000 worth of Unjury? (free, seriously!)

What a nice offer. I live in western NC, wish that you lived in this direction. -

I did the flying after surgery. Walk around between flights if there is a layover. Pump your ankles up and down while sitting down. You can use compression socks if it makes you more comfortable. I flew Delta, I asked for assistance in the airport due to very long distances between terminals. They had someone come to the flight, help me into a wheelchair, and wheel me to the next terminal. My other advice is take very little with you if you are going alone because you have to carry it unless you have help. -
Absolutely! Don’t get discouraged and just stick with your plan, it will happen.

When I had my lap band, I went alone to Mexico. My husband told his son and his friend (probably before I got off the first plane) which totally pissed me off. I am having a conversion to bypass next month. I’m telling people the hiatal hernia story as well. I would simply not say anything, but he would probably tell again. I told him if he does it to me again that he will be left without me and can live with his son and friend. I’m a private person and feel like it’s really not anyone else’s business. It’s truly difficult for me to trust him to be silent after the first time.

Very well thought out and written. My surgery is two days after yours. Best wishes to you. -
I don’t have advice because my conversion is the 8th, but I wanted to reply so I could get notifications on your post. I’m wondering if it is more the malabsorption part that works after the conversion since we already have smaller than normal stomachs. I’m going to write it down to ask my surgeon. Good luck.

Yes, it goes into your abdominal cavity and not your actual stomach. I didn’t mean to be unclear.
