hey man , First congrats from making such an important life changing choice. Im 32 years old and was just banded 7/21/08 ...... following my docs directions to a tee i have already lost over 40 lbs. I was on a liquid diet for 2 weeks pre-op and lost 26 lbs.... then banded and have lost the other 14 in 11 days.... its easy if you are ready to make the changes needed. Now, they say everyone loses differently and every doc has different diets to follow so do not expect the loss, it will come.... as far as being ready, i dont think you can mentally prepare yourself to only eat 2 tablespoons of food and feel full but if you eat slow enough it helps. I just think about being able to eat solid foods in 4 more weeks. My best advise is to have a positive attitude, follow the diet to a tee and dont push the food intake at all. Eating to much can cause vommiting and until the surgery is completly healed they say can cause slippageof the band, then its useless. 2 days after my op , i started walking 2 miles a day, im sure thats helping. If you havent started the process of seeing all your docs it may take a while. I guess some insurances take longer then others to approve it , but the day i got my list of what i had to do ... i called every doc and got the soonest appt. so i was done with my pre-op appts within a month and obviously showed initiative and was banded faster. if you have anymore questions you are more then welcome to post them and ill do my best to try to answer them to the best of my knowledge. i really found that talking to people that have gone through the process helped me out alot sofar. Good luck

Alright people .... i was banded on the 21st of this month and i have the usual gas, pain around the port, bloating and the rest of the good stuff. I am currently walking 1 1/2 miles a day ( which i have to say the only walking i did prior was from the couch to the fridge) so things are going normal i guess. I do have one question for anyone who can help. I have not yet had a nice bowel movement ...... is this normal ? I feel like i have to go but then nothing or just a rabbit turd (lol)...... i dont think i should take a lax. but who knows. Please someone tell me that they went through this or are still going through it.

How much liquid can I drink at one time?
jpell1275 replied to Long2BFree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
heres an idea....... if it hurts to drink that fast, dont do it ........ im 7 days post op and i was told to drink 48 - 64 oz. of liquid a day if i can drink more go ahead and do it . I dont have much restriction on liquids but i would not chug if i was you. If you make yourself vomit this early you can cause slipage . Sip all day .. i still finish about 7-8 16oz. bottles a day w/ no issue as well as my 3 shakes. Hope that helped -
my doctor has had me taking chewable vitamins since before surg. .... i would take a look at bariatricadvantage.com they are pretty reasonable and have everything you will need .... i take the lemon cream chewable multivitamins and the chocolate calcium citrate lozenges ...... they both taste good and obviosly go down easy because there chewed. As far as any other pills i was told i could crush my meds and add w/ a shot of water ...... taste natsty but it gets them down ...

13 days post-op and feeling desperate
jpell1275 replied to lafrogura's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im currenly 7 days post op and have not progressed past liquids yet .... @ days 7- 14 i am only allowed to eat 2 tablespoons of puree ( oatmeal , cream of wheat ) w/ 3 atkins shakes a day .... then progress to soft diet for 3 weeks only allowed 1/4 cup ( scrambled eggs, tuna , pured meats ) .... im not sure why you are eating solid foods so soon, but all Dr. do it different. I can tell you that i have already lost 36 lbs including my two weeks liquids pre-op and im not feeling hungry...... maybe you can try these guidelines and achieve greater success ..... also remember they say the first 5 weeks are healing time and not to be suprised if you dont lose .... i can feel your pain though .....stick w/ it and give it your all ...... i heard this one time ( inch by inch, life is a cinch - yard by yard , it can get hard ) ..... hope some of this helps -

CT / Just banded 7-21-08 w/ questions
jpell1275 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hye everyone, i was just banded Monday the 21st. Since then i have had horrible bloating and gas pains. Everyone says that this is normal( hope it doesnt last long). Obviously im still on liquids and really dont feel like eating anyhow. I am a little concerned on why i gained 5 lbs during surgery and when it will come back off. I am also surprised to see how many people state that they dont lose for the first 5 weeks because it is a healing time? My Doc didnt tell me that ... is it common? One of my wifes good friends had been banded now for 10 months and has lost 81 lbs w/ no issues, so you can see why i am confused a bit. Right now he has me drinking 3 Atkins shakes and nothing else but clear liquids. I can not see how i would not lose weight.... i dont know ..... if there is anyone that would be able to shed some light on how this is gonna go, it would be appreciated. I work with alot of guys who have had the Gastric and loose weight very quick .. almost too quick ....What should i expect ??? -
