First surgery $9,900 out of pocket. which I am still paying for, $11,387.27 second surgery for fixing a port and tubing he "accidentally" puctured. There has been a total lack of empathy and compassion in this matter. He and his staff could not be more indifferent to my situation. I would not recommend this surgeon to anyone. I have spent to date a total of $22,787.27 Which includes my fills to 7 cc all of which are now gone. So here we go again, I get to pay another surgeon (because Dr. Laker has released me as a patient) for the fills all over again, At least I can say this doctor will not get another dime from me. Please watch for my story on Channel 7 action news, 7 on your side has decided to do an interview with me. Run as far as you can from Shannon Maxon and Dr. Scott Laker!:tongue2:

Pay for the band! Poll!
Spunkey1 replied to princess_n_thep's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had to pay $9,900 the first time Doctor laker did my surgery, then when he punctured the tubing I had to pay $11,387.27 for the second surgery for a new port! -
Should I do lapband or should I not???????????
Spunkey1 commented on MyBandJourney2009's blog entry in Blog 71925
I would never have this surgery again!!!! Dr Laker did my surgery at the DMC, Michigan. cost $9,900 May of 08 Now Aug. 4 of 09 I have not lost 1 pound, I had to have the port replaced, because The good doctor punctured my tubing insted of the port and he has gone on to charge me an additional $11,387.27, I do not think an assumed risk that you take when you have this surgery is reason enough for that additional charge. Be prepaired to pay for anything that goes wrong, it usually does, from what I have herd. -

My band is a year old, I had it done in Michigan at Harper hospital, and my Blue Care Network Insurance will NOT pay to fix this break. I wish I lived Down under! -

Thanks for the advice, had my Lawyer look at everything, but because lap band list this as a risk at the web page they no longer have to do anything. Trust me, I would not miss inform anyone if I have not already requested such a thing and have been turned down! -

Dr laker was My doctor, His recovery nurses were horrible, after one year, He told me my band is broke and it will cost another $10,000 to fix. Cash pay assumed risk and not covered, Lawyer said no recourse!

I have had my band 1 year and never lost more then five pounds. Dr Scott Laker just informed me it is leaking (broken) and that I would have to pay for another surgery to fix this. Another $10,000 down the drain. I too was a cash patient and I have no more cash. At $150.00 per fill and I had 10 fills $1500.00. for a five pound loss. I am devistated, why would I pay more out to fix this???? Harper Hospital, Dr. Laker, Lap-band, someone else should be held accountable! -
I was banded May 29, 2008 and have only lost 7 lbs to date. It is a slow process and I keep telling myself one of these fills and its going to get easier. As for everything else, be strong, talk to God, and hopefully good answers will come, just remember His time line is different then ours.

Hi, I too am a slow loser, I am down one more pound today but in five months I have only lost a total of 7lbs. I work out five times a week, for at least 40 minutes, and it still will not let go of me.

Thanks, I go in on the 29th and I will be able to talk with him about that. I have gained Muscle mass which is good, I might just want too much too soon. I just really expected to be down more by now, I do exercise, but I did before the surgery too, and I do not mean just sometimes, it is daily, and at least two miles! It just takes me forever to loose, and I hate that deprived, starving feeling. -
Mine was done at Harper Hosp. But I live closer to Hurley. Dr. Laker @ Harper Hospital is supose to be one of the best in Michigan. I hope everything goes well for you.

Yes but not much wants to stay down, I go for a fill Oct. 29th It will be two months to the day since my last fill and I still have trouble keeping things down. I chew slowly for fear I will be sick, I take little bites, and it takes me forever to eat. -

The Isopure is just liquid protein, not really a shake. It has only 160 cal. 0 Fat, 0 Carbs, 0 surgars, 40 grams Protein 45 mgs Potassium, 80 mg sodium, They really are very much in line with this type of weight loss, hospital recommended, most people hate the taste but it does not bother me, and I only drink one a day which provides what you see above. my musscle mass has gone up but weight has not gone down. Thanks for the responce!:tongue_smilie: -
Hi Fenton Michigan here, Dr. Laker did my surgery on May 28th 2008, I would love to say I have lost alot of weight but only three pounds in five months. I have paid out 10,000 to get the guilt trip every time I go back to the office for the fills. I do a 40 minute workout every day on a treadmill and elliptical, it is hard for me to eat much of anything, I drink isopure protein 40g a day. any advice????

I was banded on May 29, 2008 and I have only lost 3 lbs This is Oct. and every time I go into the doctors office, I get that same question, why do you think your not loosing weight. I workout for 40 minutes everyday, I drink Isopure protein 40g a day along with whatever protein I take in through food that I can keep down, (mainly seafood) I do get sick on occation, but I think it is from eating to fast when I am very hungry. I am 195 lbs and cannot seem to get out of the 190's and it has been five months. My muscle mass has increased but I have not lost much fat. Is it really all about not eating and only drinking protein? :mad:Any help????
