Heinlein's -Job a comedy of errors- Just a hoot! Another author that was compared to him that I like a lot is John Varley- after a long absence he just put out 3 new books in the last few yrs. Fun reading but go back and read his older stuff also.

Nothing on the table tastes as good as thin feels!!! I love that! would make a great tattoo! And so very true. This is my first year in about 45 that i am not cooking the dinner - just making pies and bagels. We are going to a friends which maked mh Dh happy because the way i cook Thanksgiving dinner there is always enough to feed a small army and with what i can get down now we would have left overs for an eternity!

Do you have to drink something hot before you eat?
Northernsun replied to kim2bhealthy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This Gayle, I have nothing to measure that by- this time of year is major stress at work so I can't remember a time since my last fill when I haven't been stressed! I will have to check that out when the holiday season is over and I can stop thinking and dreaming about work. Another Gayle -

All of your reasons sound so logical- so why am I looser in the morning and by dinner can barely choke it down? Works great for me even if it uncomfortable as dinner was my biggest meal. I have lost 8 lbs since my last fill when this started ( 2 and a half weeks ago.) My theory was I am empty in the morning and at lunch but full up by dinner! Who knows?! It seems we are all different! ( Thankfully!!!) Another Gayle, in Minnesota! -
WoW Kutia! someone else who knows who Robert Heinlein is! My dh and I were just talking about how much fun it would be to do a movie of Glory Road! The last Unicorn is one of my all time favorites- one that I reread regularly. I like hard backs because I reread most of my books again and again over the years. I love sci/fi and fantasy and inhale instead of read. Love the books of Mercedes Lackey, Anne McCaffrey and many others. OK, and i will even admit here and in public for the first time, I am hooked on Sherilyn Kenyons Darkhunter series. There, I said it!

A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
Northernsun replied to Wheetsin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congrats to everyone! Everyone should be proud of themselves. Even 1 lb lost is 1 less then yesterday and heading in the correct direction. I wish i had taken some before pictures but I always stayed behind the camera. I have been getting fills regularily all along and i think I finally hit just over the sweet spot. I am really tight and can hardly eat much at all and have trouble getting even yougart down sometimes. Makes taking my pills in the morning fun! Finally! last month i didn't loose anything but did loose inches. Since the fill last week i am already down 3 lbs. Picture 2x4 upside head - I can be taught! -
what made you decide this is it
Northernsun replied to strictlyred's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mine was a quick decision. My dr suggested it when I wondered what else I could do for the pain in my knees. She suggested I go for the cause of the pain - my weight- and see what happens after that. I actually was in shock when she suggested that- I was sure it was too expensive, insurance wouldn't cover it and I could not do have an elective surgery with taking blood thinners. Wrong on all counts. I was speechless and that is very unusual form me. This was in Dec of last yr. Same month went to the meeting, saw the nutrionist, January the shrink and Feb the surgery and I have never looked back. I have my life back! and my desire to enjoy it rather then just exist. -
a nice diaper bag with a stuffed animal and some onesies- universal baby wear!

You have my sympathies. It is probably the hardest thing I had to do. After 3 yrs and a new dog that has become just as special Tho you can't compare- apples to oranges- we still remember and talk about our old dog Chester. For the longest time we were sure he was still with us- Jake would stand and stare into the corner Chester used to sleep in and would not even go there to get his toys that rolled there. Now that he knows Jake is trying to fill his shoes the best he can, we don't sense him and I know he is waiting for us on the other side of the rainbow bridge. We swore after him we would not get another dog so we would not have to go through that again ( we have had dogs all our lives so have done this before) and this time we actually lasted about 2 months before we were back looking at the adoptions and when we saw Jake - skinny and boney with the big American Bulldog head sticking out we were sunk and once again became parents. Our daughter is out of the house and it was just too empty with just a cat and a tank of fish.

Welcome fellow Minnesotan! Where did you have your surgery done?

Congrats to her! I love shopping at the back of the closet - it is my favorite place, and the price is always right! I found a few winter shirts in the very back of the closet that have not seen the light of day for about 10 yrs.

Thanks for the reminder- I had forgotten the caffene rule. Guess i will have to try harder to pump water through me. I actually found crystal lite to be too sweet for me now- weird- there is a new product out - little pouches of lemon and lime that can be used in receipes and drinks. One of each in a bottle of water gives a great tasting no calorie drink.
-
Help me out here... I read somewhere the it did not matter if your liquid was water or coffee or tea as long as it was water based. Like crystal lite. I drink lots of water in the summer but have problems when the weather cools and I change to drinking more tea and coffee. So, experts out there, does the liquid needed have to be water?

Everyone is different, and everyone's expectations are different. I went in to it knowing that I was not and I say again NOT going to wake up from surgery skinny! I did go into it with the knowledge that if i worked with this tool, I could get my life back. The one where i can walk and garden etc etc etc.... After 8 months, I can honestly say i would do it again in a heartbeat. I am having a great time! I am slowing down a bit now but I need to focus a bit more and hopefully get moving again.

I have a dog that requires me to be out all winter walking. I just dress in thermals- besides walking warms you up and you burn more calories shivering! I do not walk when it is way below zero or really bad wind chill or icy sidewalks. I do not want to be laid up when I wrench my bad knees. But, by the time we get out ( around 6pm) the wind usually has died down and it is clear and cold but beautiful. Also bought a recumbent bike for the days I do not walk ( and those i do also). I have not lost enough to where i feel comfy at a gym or better yet , a pool.

I am laughing at my computer and people are staring at me! But it's ok! I hate to admit it but a couple of times when something wasw stuck I used the wooden spoon at the back of my tongue... you get the picture! Was that what was meant?

You guys got off easy! I had to take the mmi - Minnesota multi something or other - couple hrs of questions like do you love your mother?, Do you like to torture small animals? and then they ask the same ones again later on with slightly differenct wording. It was fun........ Then I had to go back for the results and an interview. I found out I am certifiably normal. She told me the test showed I tended to be too hard on myself - when I told my family that, I am sure half the neighborhood hood the " well, duuuuh!" I can honestly say for whatever reason, I think calling a psycologist was the hardest part of the whole thing. If I didn't want this so badly, I might not have called at all. Think that is part of the test??

Thanks for the info and link. I have not heard of this before- ain't technology great! As a frustrated author, I am thinking of trying this. Good thing I found out about it now- I can read everything on the site and make a decision and maybe even come up with a basic story line by the first. Thanks!!!

do you take thyroid meds? Have you had it checked since surgery? I was getting the dizzy spells and turned out my thyroid med needed to be lowered as I lost weight. So, It is a good thing to remember that loosing weight changes everything so if you take any meds, have yourself checked regularily as you loose.

Oh my, my family would say what don't i collect! I am a dabler. I collected for yrs pewter dragons and gargoyles and other fantasy and animal figures. Stopped when i had no more room to display. Started collecting advertising tins but packed them away and stopped just lost interest. I do collect coins still- since I was a little kid and due to a theft I had to start over. I still have a complete collection of x files cards packed away soemwhere! My DH collects 1:24 die cast and still has a 1:18 collection around also.

Anyone "cured" their sleep apnea with weight loss?
Northernsun replied to Northernsun's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am really encouraged by all the people who have beaten this but I am also leary about just stopping using the cpap. I was really bad before I got my cpap- falling asleep in front of my computer at work- with my eyes open ( scared the heck out of my co workers!!), falling asleep in the middle of sentences, on th freeway on the way to work ( luckily at 5 in the morn and i would force myself to wake back up.) We have a love/ hate relationship, my cpap and me. I will not be sorry to see it go but I will definately not run over the machine with the truck till I am sure all the symptioms i had do not return. Oh, by the by, I still snore with the machine. -
Anyone "cured" their sleep apnea with weight loss?
Northernsun posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I 'm curious and hopefull, Has anyone "cured" their sleep apnea after loosing the weight you needed to? My dr says that about 80% of patients are able to go off of some of their meds and loose their sleep apnea. I had my yearly physical and to my suprise, my colesterol was down 20 points from last yr and for the first time in about 15 yrs I needed to decrease my thyroid med so i think i am headed in the right direction. Can i really look forward to backing over my CPAP with the truck at some point in the future? I am sure my DH would be more then happy to put it under the tires for me! My reg dr said I should probably be tested again when I get to the 100 lb loss pt- 25 to go! -
OMG I am so Em BARASSED.... literally the last part...
Northernsun replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in Rants & Raves
Thanks for sharing- I was a bit embarrassed to share but now I think it is funny... Had to have an electrician out and we needed to see the box in the basement. I was also needing to get new pants.... As we were walking up the stairs with him behind me of course they just slipped down off my butt. Luckily he was a polite young man and I am a 53 yr old woman so I just grabbed them and repositioned. That was definately the last time I wore those pants! -
Make a really big quilt! Lots of them!

Hyopthyroidism....LapBand questions....
Northernsun replied to slowkat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I also gained a whole lot before I found out I had a thyroid problem. I was double wammied- thyroid and sleep apnea and once both of them were addressed, I stopped gaining weight but could not loos the weight permanantly. I did loose about 50 lbs on Atkins but started gaining it back when my knees got worse and I couldn't do much movement at all. Since the surgery I amd down 75 lbs and feeling great. NOTE: remember to have your thyroid tested regularly when loosing weight! I had a bunch of weird symptoms like being dizzy occasionally, being cold etc and thought they were from the surgery but turns out I needed to drop my synthroid dose down some. So, I guess it is always best to go with what your dr says
