  1. Ok...so TMI I know but...I am just starting into my first menstrual cycle and I am feeling kinda funny. I was banded 6/19 and tomorrow is my first day of mushies (yeah). I'm feeling a little light headed and dizzy today...could this be that I am just really hungry or is this normal with your cycle after being banded.
  2. I had surgery on a friday morning and I had no desire to drink anything until Monday...I think if you just do the best you can you will be fine

    How quick

my weight loss was mainly the diet I had to go on for my insurance to approve the surgery and the pre-op and post-op diet. I lost 9lbs the first week after surgery

    Day # 10

I am finding already that lunch is going to be the heardest meal of the day for me. I haven't realized mentally that I don't have acid reflux anymore and things like lettuce, veggies, and a million other things will not give me extreme heartburn. Can't wait for my magic bullet to arrive so I can maybe make some smoothies for my lunch. hmmm...egg salad...that sounds pretty good..although so does Oreo's and milk lol

    sorry in advance

I am in the same boat as you...haven't had a bm since 6/17..I wasnt really worried because I am not really regular and go on average once or twice a week. Not to mention I didn't really eat 3 days post op execpt a very small amount of water and the liquid pain meds (I have lortab) one of the main side effects is constipation...so I am finally on mushies today and I am going to give it a couple of days.
  7. I am glad to hear that most can still eat things like rice and bread of some sort. I just want to be able to eat those things on occasion...I find if I am told I cant have something that I want it even more.

    Stomach flu with a band?

your surgeon should have someone on call so call his office. he should be able to call you in anti-nasuea medication. I asked the same question at my last appt out of concern for getting a stomach bug...having a young child in school and working in the medical field gives me a lot of exposure.

  12. I too was banded by Dr B on 6/19/09 and I had a great experience with him. He made me cry on my first appt with him..and not in a bad way...just because he was kind and very supportive. His bedside manner is great. The practice also has the monthly support meetings for you to go to as well.

  16. I am recently banded and I could honestly say I would do it again. Honestly the only thing I was worried about was the anesethia, I have a small child and I was putting myself "under" voluntarily! In the surgery holding room I said to my husband...I don't think I want to do this and he assured me I would be fine. The wheeled me into the surgery room and I did everything I could not to look at anything lol...but my surgeon was there waiting for me with his great smile, took my hand, and said "you will be fine" and I was...next thing I remember was waking up on recovery lol! There are some things you should have on hand...Heating Pad, a sports bra for comfort, and the magic bullet Feel free to private message me if you have any questions regarding the recovery process / diet as this is all still very fresh in my mind
  17. my liquid pre-op diet was only for 2 days but if yours is longer I don't see why waiting till you wake up will be any big deal.

    Approved--- YAH!

Congrats on the approval...time will surely fly by till your surgery date...I know mine did

    ok... getting scared....

I think your feelings are normal...I was really scared...even in the surgery holding area I said to my husband "I don't think I want to do this" but 8 days post op I am feeling pretty good. I went back to work on Wed of this week and I am looking forward to my mushies. You will do fine and we are all here if you have any questions or concerns!!!

    Ok Husbands & Wifes...

wow what a great thread to start, I wish there was one like this before my surgery 1. Heating pad is a must must must...keep in mind it's going to be hard for her to bend at the waist to "plug" things in so when it's time to move from the couch to the bed remember to help her move her things with her. 2. Gas X melt strips...I couldn't stomach the thought of swallowing anything other then a FEW sips of Water let alone anything that tasted NASTY. the strips are great because she can tear small pieces at a time and they do in fact melt away. 3. check with the surgeon before hand if they are going to be providing liquid pain meds...mine did liquid lortab. My hubby filled my pains while I was in recovery so all we had to do was go home. 4. lots of pillows - I was able to sleep in my bed with 4 pillows so I was pretty upright...who doesn't want to sleep in there own bed. 5. support getting up and sitting down..we use a lot of our stomach muscles to do this and it's hard to get up and down..I am 8 days post op and I still have a hard time. 6. walk with her...help her get up and try to encourage her to walk every hour or so even if it's just for a couple of minutes...this will help with the gas pains and prevent blood clots from forming. 7. don't dare mention the word sex lol...she will let you know when she is ready  I told my hubby today I think I may need just a couple of more days...it hurts when my belly jiggles. 8. my hubby and son didn't eat in front of me but honestly it really didn't bother me...I had no appetite at all anyway! Day 1, 2, & 3 I was totally out of it and slept most of the day mainly because I took my pain meds every 5 hrs :tt1: Day 5 I was back to work BUT...even though she may head back to work that doesn't me she can come home and do laundry, cook, and clean...that part is going to take a couple of weeks sooo...just be as supportive as you can during that time...it already appears as though you are anyway!!! Your both going to do great!!! And you know everyone here is available for any questions you may have
  21. could you possibly feeling tight because it's that time of the month? From my understanding that sometimes happens
  22. davidsmom08

    Do you still measure...

I was told by my MD not to measure but to take small bites, chew well, and don't eat for more then 15 minutes.
  23. davidsmom08

    What is....

    1. I don't think I will ever be able to eat Cinnamon Rolls, sasauge gravy and biscuits, or pizza Hut Deep Dish Pizza again. I have been steadily trying to think of a replacement for these items but have come up with nothing. 2. I can't get away from ice cream, probably because it goes down so easily. I don't have much of a sweet tooth thank goodness. 3. Yesterday was my first day of soft foods and I really have been enjoying soft boiled eggs with salt. I love making my deli meat and cheese rolls and on occasion dip them in mayo. 4. When I am feeling like I want to eat kinda bad I make a philly cheese steak with out the bread using steak ums, onions, peppers, and cheese wiz...believe it or not it really tastes the same. I love to make chicken salad with mayo, finely chopped cranberries, and small apple pieces. ***anyone able to eat think crust pizza from pizza hut??***
