well, I went to my seminar last night with dr Mcdowell at baptist. I was hoping to get him, and I did. he is really nice, but says he prefers gastric for himself because he is impatient. I am not, so i think lap band will be fine for me. I am nervous about one thing. I went to this seminar unbeknownst to my PCP. A few years ago I talked to him about gastric (lap wasn't available, or I dind't know about it then) and he said NO! So, I don't know how he will feel about me getting the lap. I need to get a letter of recommendation from him and I am nervous about it. Do i need to make a special appt with him, or can I just take it in to him, or just fax it to him? LOL I really want to take the chicken way out. lol Any advice? Amy said she would call my insurance today to see what my pay would be, etc, and dr said he puts all his patients on a diet as well....so I see this will be a process. That's ok, I am just worried it will take forever for me to lose weight, as I have been fighting just to keep my weight even or gain little- I have gained about 7 lbs in the last 2 mo fighting.

Thanks Lapbandfan! I am excited/nervous about the seminar tomorrow, but dh is ready to support me and take care of the kids while I go! now to get other ducks in a row (like organizing house so family can keep it semi clean while I am down! lol)

Thank you so much! I am nervous about any surgery, and knowing good things about the dr makes me more comfortable. I talked to someone at their office yesterday and they were nice and called right back with my answer. I had Pyloric Stenosis surgery as a 1 mo old and wasn't sure if that would knock me out of being able to do it. She talked to the "head surgeon" (? I think) and said it would be fine since I was so young. I was impressed at how fast they get back to you!

I can't help you with the information you need, but I was just wondering what you think of the dr? I am going on thursday for an "informational meeting" there and just wonder what you think of the drs there, staff, etc. How long did it take you to get approval, what insurance, etc. lol I live in Hendersonville, so these drs are my closest. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me

thanks Nance for the sage words of advice/support! I really appreciate it! I think my PCP doesn't really like me much, because I usually research the crap outta stuff, and come in knowing what is wrong with me (or my kids), just need his "yep" and pills! lol So, I WILL know everything I can before going under the knife!

I just want to do SOMETHING that works and my weight will start going down instead of up! I want to help my kids in school sports (I was active as a kid), I want them to think I am beautiful- and I think it too! (they already do, but...) I want to feel "sexy" to my dh who, bless his heart, tells me I am sexy! but most of all I just want to be healthy and feel good about myself. My parents are overweight, but I have been the heaviest in "our" family for many years. With my size 8-12 sister making me feel "fat and ugly" in my mind.

well, I don't know if losing weight will help my fibro, but it SHOULD help me to stay on lyrica w/o gaining so much weight. And I am also hoping that losing weight will help me exercise more w/o as much pain. I too have plantar facitis (sp?) and know that when I was lighter my feet didn't hurt so much in the am- if at all- so I am hoping that weightloss will help that too
