What different steps do we need to take having PCOS to help us lose the weight...seeing that we process foods different from others?
-
I have my third fill today...should I not eat? What is the rule?
-
My doctor recommends liquids for the first 48 hours and mushies the 48 hours after that postfill. There is just not any clear definition of what to do before. Thanks for the advice though.

Fertility? Or not fertility?

I have PCOS and I have not seen any results yet. I am 4 months out but I had the procedure for the same reason...to be able to have a baby. I was told I will never have kids and this was at a weight of 195lb. I am trying to stay positive but I am not losing weight and my doctor tells me it is that much harder when you do have PCOS to lose the weight. So I just keep hope...that maybe one day I will be able to be PCOS free and have children. So good luck. -
How much will my doc give me on my 2nd fill?
2nd2none1 replied to jkend50035's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my second fill yesterday and my doctor gave me only 0.2 cc increasing me from 5.5 ccs to 5.7 ccs. His rule of thumb to determine how much to give me is how much I eat and how long I stay satisfied. I usually eat around a cup to a cup and a half and I stay full for an hour or two, longer if I don't drink anything for a few hours. After the fill he recommends that I do 2 days liquid then 2 days mushies. After that the swelling should have subsided and I can eat regular food. I didn't notice the difference at first but a day later I can tell just from drinking. So good luck. -
Hungry after 1st Fill
2nd2none1 replied to mamalovell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my first fill 2 weeks ago and I am always hungry myself and even more frustrating than that I am not losing weight. I workout 5 times a week and I am eating 2 x a day in addition to drinking my 2 protein drinks. My portions are about a cup and I am still not losing weight. I do have PCOS so I don't know what to do to about this. Does anyone have any suggestions? -
My only advice is get the magic bullet blender. This thing is amazing. I was eating pureed veggies, pasta, u name it. It is absolutely wonderful and made a big difference in my life. So try it.:rolleyes2:

how long till we can try to have a baby?
2nd2none1 replied to Britt_bander_235's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is why I got banded...I have PCOS which makes me infertile due to nonexistent ovulation. I am hopeful with losing weight I might start ovulating and be able to have a baby. My doctor says to wait for at least 2 years for the weight loss to stabilize. He says that if you get pregnant before that you can risk malnutrition of you and the fetus due to the lack of nutrients you will be receiving from the smaller portions of food and Vitamins alone can't help. So be careful. -
Will there be issues if you eat food to early?
2nd2none1 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am currently 10 days post op and still on the liquid diet I started 2 weeks prior to surgery. I have my 2 week post op appointment this Thursday where I will be transitioning to mushies for 2 weeks then after my 1 month post op I will be transitioning to solids. My problem is that I cook daily for my boyfriend and while I am cooking I taste the food to make sure that it tastes okay. Nothing has ever gotten stuck, I haven't gotten sick as I do not have any restriction and am supposed to be filled at 6 weeks post op. I've asked my doctor and he has not given me any justification only saying that it will help me lose more weight, which does not make sense as I have PCOS and it does not matter when I eat as much as how my body processes what I eat. I curious to know why we have to do this transitioning 2 weeks liquid-2 weeks Mush-then solids. Does anyone know? Will my band be affected if I move to solids early?:confused2: -
3 weeks post op and woke up this morning with intense sharp pain in stomach. It feels like it is around or near my band. I haven't taken any pain medication throughout this whole process, even after the sugery...and this pain is much stronger. The pain is strong and I am curious if I should go to the emergency room. I originally thought it was the way I was laying as I can only lay on my back and tried to lay on my side, but that was not it. I thought it was gas and tried moving around but that made no difference either. Has anyone else experienced this? Am I freaking out for no reason...please help?

I am three weeks post-op and my doctor has told me that I can take pills now because I keep getting sick from chewables. Has anyone else started taking pills in place of Multivitamins, Calcium, pain relievers? I just want to make sure this is really okay. Multivitamins are rather large and I am afraid it will get stuck.
-
According to my doctor you have to take 2 multivamins and 2 calcuim a day. The reason for the pills is because liquid and chewables make me sick. Which is not good once banded. Another big no no is flintstones as they do not provide the same nutritional value as the Multivitamin. Also...just an FYI, I don't eat chocolate, can't stand the smell. I know I am weird.

Will there be issues if you eat food to early?
2nd2none1 replied to 2nd2none1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no problem eating less as food is not an issue with me nor the cause of my inability to lose weight. I am following what my doctor tells me but I am getting conflicting information and that is why I am questioning this. -

I'm not tasting the food because I miss the taste. It is apart of cooking for others. You want to make sure you don't overseason or undercook. And I'm not saying that I am eating a steak or large portions. And it is not everything I cook. -

So what about the hundreds of people on here that have been told by their docs that they can eat right after the surgery or after a week after the surgery, how does this affect them? There does not seem to be any consistency in regards to what the doctors are telling there patients. That is why I question this extreme transisition. And honestly I don't see the difference between tasting a piece of food to see if it is seasoned properly and using applesauce to take medicine. Your body still has to process it right? -
I am now concerned that you say that because every diet that I read about that are high protein/low carbs state that these are the unhealthiest types of diet. So how is this helping us...it only appears to be hurting us. What Are the Health Risks Associated With High Protein, Low Carb Diets? http://women.webmd.com/guide/high-protein-low-carbohydrate-diets High protein diets can cause a number of health problems, including: Kidney failure. Consuming too much protein puts a strain on the kidneys, which can make a person susceptible to kidney disease. High cholesterol. It is well known that high protein diets (consisting of red meat, whole dairy products, and other high fat foods) are linked to high cholesterol. Studies have linked high cholesterol levels to an increased risk of developing heart disease, stroke and cancer. Osteoporosis and kidney stones. High protein diets have also been shown to cause people to excrete more Calcium than normal through their urine. Over a prolonged period of time, this can increase a person's risk of osteoporosis and kidney stones. Cancer. One of the reasons high protein diets increase the risks of certain health problems is because of the avoidance of carbohydrate-containing foods and the Vitamins, minerals, Fiber and anti-oxidants they contain. It is therefore important to obtain your protein from a diet rich in whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Not only are your needs for protein being met, but you are also helping to reduce your risk of developing cancer. Unhealthy metabolic state (ketosis). Low carb diets can cause your body to go into a dangerous metabolic state called ketosis since your body burns fat instead of glucose for energy. During ketosis, the body forms substances known as ketones, which can cause organs to fail and result in gout, kidney stones, or kidney failure. Ketones can also dull a person's appetite, cause nausea and bad breath. Ketosis can be prevented by eating at least 100 grams of carbohydrates a day.

Hi all, I was banded two days ago and am on the full liquid diet. Currently everything I drink, i.e. Soup, Protein, Water, etc. goes through me and I have to use the bathroom. I have already gone about 8 times in the past 5-6 hours...is this normal or should I be worried. I am concerned that I might dehydrate since I am losing all of the liquids I put in my body....PLEASE ADVISE!!!:confused2:
-
I am still on full liquids but I don't like drinking the protein. I got unflavored hoping to mix it with better tasting juices as I am extremly lactose intolerant, but its not working. I get nauseous just thinking about drinking it...are there other alternatives to get the 60grams of protein without drinking? like a chewable? please let me know.
-
My big problem is that I don't like anything chocolate and my body does not tolerate anything with lactose in it. So the majority of the suggested items are out. I need to find a way to get the protein in without drinking.

I am on the road of indecision. I am torn about what I want to do. I have my surgery date scheduled for next week and everyday I consider cancelling. I am self-pay so the cost is $18k, I was told that the process for self-pay was 60 days to complete. Here I am 200+ days later and finnally I get a date but now, my finances have changed. My husband loss his job, we were in the middle of purchasing a new home as we have already sold our current home and are living in an apartment waiting for our new home to be built. It's a hard decision to make. I do not have problems with food but I do have PCOS which constrains how much weight I can and can't lose and makes me infertile. I initially became interested in the procedure so that I could lose enough weight to start ovulating to have a baby. BUt the doctor tells me that I have to wait 2 years for the weight loss to stop. I am currently 225lbs and am told that losing 5% of my body weight will help me reach my ovulation goal. I am really confused and do not know what to do. Any suggestions????
