Drinking & burps
liveaboard15 replied to Vsgbethany22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
dang you can drink more than me. I struggle to get my water in. The protein has been easier tho. My surgeon wants me to get 45oz of fluids in a day and 60 grams of protein. But yea remember liquids dont stay in the stomach for long like food. -
Self pay- insurance doesn’t cover WLS

Also from my research i thought the affordable care act covers bariatric surgery in North Carolina. I would double check. Tho idk if What you have on your profile would get covered that Duodenal Switch thing. -
Self pay- insurance doesn’t cover WLS
liveaboard15 replied to Changenprogress's topic in Insurance & Financing
that is odd... I am self pay as well. My surgeon required a special insurance that i bought from the doctors office which covers anything that may go wrong for 6 months. It was like $1,200 but others in my area do not require it. My whole gastric sleeve was $18,000 -
I had surgery on April 18th. For me the gas pains lasted about 3 days. I needed help to get out of chairs for about a week. I still cant lay in my bed. I have been sleeping sitting up in a recliner and sofa.

first thing is first, Dont eat that crappier stuff... Get back to healthy foods and good portions. Next up is if you can exercise, Find something that you like to do outdoors or even in the house. bicycle, walking, the gym if you like that? I bought me a nice bicycle to get active once i heal up. -

HELP - Finding a plan that will cover WLS in Texas
liveaboard15 replied to MrsL12's topic in Insurance & Financing
Unfortunately you will not find a plan that will cover it in Texas thru the affordable care act (obama care) I have done lots of research on this specifically because here in Florida its also excluded... These are the states where its covered. Your option would be to move to one of these states temporarily, Establish residency, get healthcare, get your surgery and leave. If you notice most southern states are excluded because people in southern states tend to be overweight when compared to northern states. (according to multiple articles i read about bariatric surgery. This is my backup if i end up needing a revision is to move. South Dakota seems to be the easiest from the research i did. -
Since my surgery on April 18th. The back of my calves and thighs have had pain. I walk alot around the house and such and never stay seated for a long time. But no issues. I bought compression stocking and they sucked and i returned them. I did not get blood thinner shots once i left the hospital.

Revision without a high enough bmi now
liveaboard15 replied to Nanajoy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
It does. I would have to move to (closest place) would be North Carolina, Set up residency and get health insurance. There they would cover it. -

Thinking of backing out
liveaboard15 replied to Sparkleplenty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome. I had surgery on April 18th. So i am still recovering. At this stage. I do have some regrets but of course hopefully everything gets better as with any surgery, recovery takes time. 1st of course is the food mourning lol. missing all the great delicious food i use to eat, but the other hand i am loosing weight. 2nd is the big one is i am having some severe heart burn but its not a lot. I am unable to sleep in a actual bed yet because of it. I am hoping it goes away as i loose weight. -
tricare select requires that you have proof that You were unsuccessful with non-surgical medical treatments for obesity. Your medical records must show your failed attempts. Diet programs, such as Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig, are acceptable methods of dietary management, as long as there are monthly clinical visits with your doctor and medical documentation of your participation and your progress throughout the course of the dietary program. Is that maybe what they want to know or did you already provide that?

There are actual cook books for gastric sleeve/bypass people on amazon. I bought several.

Welcome to the group. I had my surgery on the 18th of April. the pre op diet seriously sucks but it gets easier after a few days. Good luck with your surgery. Make sure you update your information in your profile. If you dont know how simply click the down arrow on your profile at the top right and click on surgery and add the information. Its really helpful when you ask any questions.

My discharge paperwork specifically says no submerging in water for 3 weeks. After 3 weeks with surgeons ok. Ive been wanting to go out and ride my jetski and of course i sometimes fall off my jetski and the water is not the cleanest so i am waiting a couple months to be on the safe side

weight gain after surgery
liveaboard15 replied to Siameseplease's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
One thing about people who weigh themselves daily is it can cause mental issues. during my pre op testing the psychologist and nutritionist said to stay off the scale. That some people become so obsessed with it that any change they dont like they start to panic like crazy. -
weight gain after surgery

you will hit stalls along your journey. you are possibly in one now where you wont loose weight for a couple weeks or so. -
how is your eating? Do you exercise at all?

weight gain after surgery
liveaboard15 replied to Siameseplease's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
First you shouldnt be weighing yourself daily like that... Everyone can gain or loose a pound or so daily. Also water weight. Also you will end up running into stalls where you wont loose any weight and maybe even gain a tiny tiny bit. -
Every surgeon is different with the pre op diet... The point is to shrink your liver. My pre op diet was 2 weeks of liquids only. 5 protein shakes a day. Some surgeons allow 1 small meal of lean chicken/fish and some veggies. The length of the pre op diet depends on your BMI. Those of us with higher BMIs tend to get the longer pre op diets while those with lower bmi's get shorter or even no pre op diet.

I was also told to stop taking vitamins a certain amount of weeks before surgery. But in reality taking bariatric vitamins before surgery is a waste. You will literally just pee most of it out. The body can only absorb so much and the rest goes out in pee.

Planning ahead just incase...
liveaboard15 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So i had sleeve done last Monday. So far so good. I do get some pain in my chest if i lay flat in a bed (Maybe acid reflux) but if i just prop up my head i am good. But never know if revision may be needed in the future and since i am self pay that could be a problem. here in Florida bariatric surgery is not covered under the affordable care act (obamacare) So i have been doing research on which states do. One in particular is South Dakota. So if i were to say move to South Dakota, establish my residency there and get health insurance thru the affordable care act, Bariatric surgery is covered. one great resource there is a company called America's Mailbox, where you can setup your own residency (in a RV) get a drivers license, south dakota plates ect... Think that will be my backup plan if one day in the future i need a revision which i hope i do not.
