3 days Post Surgery
liveaboard15 replied to ashbutt31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
its normal to be hungry, You went thru a major change quickly. Stomach will growl and once you move onto solid foods most notice a lot of rumbling when you eat. As for advancing their diet... dont do that. Follow your surgeons plan. Its there for a reason. For you to heal... Advancing too soon could put you at risk. need time for your stomach to heal. I did the patch vitamins only for the first few weeks after surgery. Once i healed up and i was on solid foods i switched to regular capsules. -

How painful is gastric sleeve post-op?
liveaboard15 replied to LaLaLand's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So i was prescribed Hydrocodone in liquid form a nice big bottle. throughout my post op i only ever took it once. There is pain but its manageable. most severe pain is from the gas inside your chest which pain killers can do nothing with that. Just have to keep on walking and moving to get that air to go away. Getting in and out of a chair and bed can be painful so having a cane helps a ton or better someone else to help you get up and back down. -
i could not dew chewables either. i threw up every time. I ended up using bariatric pal multivitamin capsules. Because of the high iron in it i threw up. I had to lower the iron amount down from 45mg to 18mg and i stopped throwing up for the most part and i take another iron supplement later in the day because my last labs came back with my iron saturation was on the low side.

My surgeon didn't prescribe a ppi?
liveaboard15 replied to loli_lotus's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
all surgeons are different. If it becomes an issue you can get prescribed it after surgery. I dont know what surgery you are having but one other medication i was prescribed after surgery was a medication called Ursodiol for 1 year after surgery. It dissolves gall stones which many (not all) get after rapid weight loss. other than that i got hydrocodone in liquid form, The PPI medication for 1 month (they refused to renew it but i didnt need it anymore) Anti nausea medication that was a green liquid, constipation medication (only needed that for a week or so) and that was it. -
what like craving it real bad? sure. Just gotta move past it. I work in a convenience store and the delicious snacks we have i miss so much lol but i just ignore it and eat something good

liveaboard15 replied to jojolynn73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Were you not put on medication to dissolve gall stones after your sleeve surgery? I am on it for at least a year. -
decided to try a little meal prepping today. Rarely ever get to prep because i work overnights and sleep all day lol. for the next couple days i am working afternoons so freed me up. One has flank steak, another has grilled chicken and the other pork tenderloin. Each with onions, peppers and brown rice. been having issues trying to find sides to go with the meat. I hate most veggies lol.

Gastric bypass stall in weight loss
liveaboard15 replied to sjrollins3's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
LOL yea I can see it bothering people not knowing. But i like doing it this way that way i see huge changes instead of weighing myself everyday and seeing a pound gone here and a pound gain there. I weigh and take body measurements on the 4th of every month. Once in a while i may weigh myself half way to see how i am doing -

Oh gosh yes so uncomfortable especially up in the groin area lol. But no DVT. Was just simply the body going thru changes after surgery they said. -
cardiac testing today
liveaboard15 replied to KimA-GA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had that ultrasound on my legs done about a month after surgery due to pain and swelling in one leg. They thought possible deep vein thrombosis which is a complication after any major surgery. (which is why we get blood thinner injections in the hospital and some get it for weeks after surgery) and that scan was so uncomfortable lol. They put a lot of pressure on that probe lol. But everything came back good. Tho i did not have that scan pre surgery -
Anyone had surgery in Jacksonville, FL??
liveaboard15 replied to AmandaD.'s topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Memorial hospital on Baymeadows also does the surgery. Theirs was like 3 grand cheaper and i heard good reviews but it being a for profit hospital turned me away. The next one i considered was st vincents over on riverside because another member here said they got theirs done there and had good experience. -
VSG - pouch emptying quickly
liveaboard15 replied to stayklassie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i mean i can do this now 4 months post op. I eat, get full and can eat again in maybe 30 minutes or so. So i try to make sure i dont by eating and finding something to drink to keep my mouth busy lol -
Yea we all loose weight at different rates. some are slower some are fast. I am 4 months post op and i have lost almost 80lb, but some months i loose a good amount of weight and some i dont. Last month i only lost like 7lb because i hit a stall at 3 months. but in the last 2 weeks i have lost almost 10lb so i am hoping i am out of my stall. No hair loss at all (yet) But yea eating those carbs are getting you back into a bad habit so i would try to avoid that

low carb pre op diet
liveaboard15 replied to KimA-GA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So of course every surgeon is different. For me they did not want us to go into that keto flu. So we were told to avoid those protein shakes with no carbs. instead they recommended a certain one which i forget how many carbs they have in it but had a decent amount (not 50 of course) also to not avoid caffine as that would make the diet even harder. But yea it sucks. Gotta get use to it. After surgery your carbs will need to be a bear minimum. Currently at 4 months post op according to my guidelines max i can have is 30 and its no longer an issue. -
cardiac testing today
liveaboard15 replied to KimA-GA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not bad. My EKG came back abnormal and i had to get a nuclear stress test done. Basically your same stress test but with me they injected me with this radioactive stuff and put me under a gamma camera, Then i got injected again with the radioactive stuff and then went on the treadmill then to the camera again lol. It was long and annoying -
Anyone had surgery in Jacksonville, FL??
liveaboard15 replied to AmandaD.'s topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
No because i paid cash for my surgery. So i didnt need to go thru all the hoops of insurance. Tho even tho i paid cash i still had to get blood work done, xrays, EKG, Psychological exam ect... and my EKG came back abnormal so i had to go see my cardiologist which then sent me to get a nuclear stress test done. But once i got all that done my surgery date was pretty quick. Surgery date was easy and quick for the most part. -
Anyone had surgery in Jacksonville, FL??
liveaboard15 replied to AmandaD.'s topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi, I sure did. At Baptist Medical Center downtown. I was self pay. (My insurance would not cover it) after everything i paid roughly around $18-20K. The surgery went great, The hospital was great, Recovery was great. My surgeon was Dr Hodgett. I shopped around. This one in particular was a bit more expensive than others but i liked the place and what they offered. Here is their website. https://www.baptistjax.com/services/bariatric-surgery -
Found a new protein drink
liveaboard15 replied to liveaboard15's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Yea i bought the powder unflavored isopure before and it was just gross in soups and didnt really like the shakes i made out of it in the blender. So this one is pretty nice. every other clear drink i found has around 10 grams of protein. Its a nice change from the shakes.
