Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
hungrygiraffe replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thought I would share some photos of my progress. First image is December 2021, second is today (August 9th 2022). It's been a very difficult journey. Anyone who says surgery is the "easy way out" don't have a clue what they're talking about. Right now im still struggling with low energy levels and getting in enough calories. I now weirdly have the opposite problem of trying to slow down weight loss so I don't become malnourished - the weight loss can feel out of control at times. Just trying my best to eat clean and eat lots of healthy proteins and fats. Hope everyone else's journey's are going well. x -

Hey! Sleeved 12/09/21. So far lost 44 pounds. Generally going okay, although I still find some foods really challenging (Bread of any kind, chicken, salmon). It's weird - I feel like I can get more protein and nutrition in if I have liquid meals (soup and shakes etc). If I have solid meals, I feel like Im able to eat so little, it hardly even feels worth cooking! Keen to hear how everyone else is getting on. G -
Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?

Anyone who may have seen my previous posts would have heard that I had a really rough time for the first few weeks after surgery. A lot of pain and bruises from the incisions, a lot of difficulty with any kind of food (be it liquid, pure or softs) and various mental problems that come from such a monumental change in your life (no more using food as a comfort from life anymore!). Im now 4 weeks post-op, and happy to report that things have improved significantly. Im doing much better on pretty much every front and as a nice bonus, im down 17kg (37.5 pounds) since surgery day. Sending loads of love and positivity to everyone on here, especially those who may be struggling. Things DO get better. 😀 -

100%. I feel like my brain and my stomach are not on the same page at all. My head wants to eat anything and everything just like normal. It’s only a few minutes after devouring a meal that my stomach makes me very much regret my life choices haha! Im getting psychological support on top of my surgery to try and get my mind under control. It’s clear they operated on my stomach, not my brain, so while the stomach will help us lose weight, it’s up to us to change our thoughts and habits to make it work long term. good luck! You are not alone! -

For sure. I COMPLETELY underestimated how much pain there would be after surgery. Of course I knew there would be some, but I feel like I really wasn’t prepared for just how much. I’m now 16 days post-op, still hurting from the scars and still black and blue with bruises. The mental side of it is really tough as well. My cravings for bad food (burgers, pizza, cake etc) are just as strong as before. It’s kinda like torture doing this at Christmas when there is almost limitless junk food around. Everyone else is enjoying themselves and I’m stuck with a protein shake and liquid paracetamol. I guess it’s nice to know that I’m not alone and there’s plenty of other people struggling to get back to “normal” (whatever that means for us post-op). -

I’ve been drinking coffee since the first day after my surgery! Doctors said it was absolutely fine. I have noticed that I am WAY more sensitive to caffeine than I was pre-surgery. I used to drink 5-6 coffees a day no problem - now, if I have more than 2, I find it impossible to sleep at night. Has anyone else found this? -

Hi everyone! A bit late to the party but I had the sleeve done on the 9th of December. It has been a challenge to say the least… I had complications and lost about 2 litres of blood. Much longer hospital stay than was planned but getting on my feet now. great to be here with you all 🙂
