February 2022 Surgery Buddies

If you are wanting a taco fix, the Quest protein nacho chips with ground turkey and toppings work nicely. Good job! -

I've lost 49 lbs. About 25 since surgery, which was just over 2 months ago. I can eat any foods I want, as far as tolerating things. I've even eaten some foods that are not necessarily beneficial, but I try to always get my protein, liquids, and still not overdo it on the calories to counterbalance the situation. It seems to be working for me. I haven't really had anything negative. -

Dinosaur sounds is so accurate. I'm over here wondering about mine aside from the sounds too.i had surgery 2/21. I've lost 40 total, but only about 13-14 since surgery. I don't have much restriction, but I don't push myself. I get hungry quickly though, like stomach growling, can't sleep... not cravings. I just hope I continue to lose. I just took it as a given if I do my part, but I didn't expect it to look like this either. Regardless... I've never lost 40 lbs. before and still losing. So building on that momentum!! -
Did you taste buds change immediately?
Hot Mess Bypass replied to AngieL11282's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks, that is interesting. It's getting better now that I can eat some things, but I can still eat so much more than a lot of what I'm seeing from some people. But I'm telling myself that doesn't matter. I'm better than before, and I'm losing. That's the goal. If I have to eat 100 extra calories to feel normal, that's fine lol. -

I'm almost to 4 weeks and haven't noticed any changes. I also never lost my appetite like so many people say they did. I broke down and ate 4 cashews right before I got to soft foods (I chewed them to death), but it actually did help and I went right back to doing what I was supposed to. So many things other people have had happen or deal with (good AND bad) haven't happened to me, that it is easy to feel like I haven't had the surgery. Some days I can follow the schedule and what I should eat and be fine, other days I just feel like I'm starving. Overall, I can tell it's good and better than before though, because I have to eat less. -
What to add to meat to increase moisture?
Hot Mess Bypass replied to Flab-U-Less Forever's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Because early on people can have trouble digesting the dry meat, my nutritionist said to not reheat it to eat or to add low/no fat gravy. But I haven't had to really add anything much to meat. I did some grilled chicken nuggets from chick-fil-a and barely dipped them in the ranch. Skinny girl dressings and other 0 cal dressings would also be good if you need something. I have used no sugar added marinara on tortilla to make "pizza" as well. I'm almost 4 weeks out. -

I had my surgery 17 days ago. I dealt with a lot of pain initially, but I'm fine now. My autoimmune issues have been flaring, so that was likely the cause. I started solid food back today, though I had a few bites here and there that I shouldn't have. I've basically been non-stop starving, which I didn't expect at all. Emotionally, it's hit me a few times, but I just tell myself good things and move on. Now that I can eat food again, today has felt fairly normal. I don't feel like I'm starving. I can eat more than I thought I would be able to, but I'm doing good. I was told not to start my calcium chews and b12 until 6 weeks, but my chews came in the mail today and smell delicious lol. -

I was told to stop my Prenatal a week before and start it again a week after. Not told to use a chewable. Then the calcium and b-12 are to be started at 6 weeks post op. I'm starting my liquid diet Monday and was given gabapentin to start 3 days before and a nausea patch for the night before to keep on the day of as well. February 2022 Surgery Buddies

Taltz. So, originally they estimated my surgery to happen in Nov/Dec. They wanted me off of it for 2 months beforehand, since it effects my immune system, therefore effects healing. However, I was struggling to get over a virus, so I went off of it slightly early - in August. Then they said they weren't sure if they surgery would be before or after they holidays, because the hospital closed over a nursing shortage. When they called to schedule it... It was 2 months out, I'm assuming because of all of the rescheduling they had to do. So, I'm not supposed to start it back up until 2 months after the surgery, once healed up. But my skin is a mess, my scalp is peeling and hurting so badly, among other sensitive areas. I'm getting joint and nerve issues. I just never expected to be off of it this long. They said I might not need to go back on it after, but I can't see that happening. These issues were around when I was skinny, I have had it since I was 12, though not diagnosed until around 21. Sorry for the novel. 😬 -

I'm getting the bypass on Feb. 21st. I'm also concerned that it could end up being pushed back. I've been preparing for months, which also means I've stopped taking a medicine for my psoriatic arthritis and it's getting very difficult. I've lost 20 lbs. though. I'm mostly off of caffeine and carbonation (I've had it on occasion, but very rarely- it's just not part of my daily life any more). I don't cook, so I still struggle with what I'm eating. I just have a few go to foods and eat a lot less. i need a better meal plan. I'm well stocked with protein drinks/powders/waters that have helped me though.
