For all surgical purposes, I am told that my operation was a success. I have adjusted well post-op and have not had any issues with nausea or vomiting. I am currently on week 1 of the soft food stage and my wounds appear to have healed nicely. There was a unforeseen complication with my surgery however, I had an acute infarct in my left Occipital lobe (a stroke). I was extremely lucky that my surgeon had already started me on blood thinners prior to the surgery. See, my sister had a very rare reaction to the gastric sleeve surgery. She got a porto-vein thrombosis and is single handedly the reason why NYU puts all surgical patients on blood thinners post-op. Due to my relation, I was started on blood thinners before my operation. This one decision may have saved my life. So here I am, currently 5 weeks post-op and by the grace of the powers that be, most function of my right arm/hand and vision have returned. I am working on gaining my full strength back... but I wasn't expecting the mental change that came along with the surgery. I don't quite feel like myself. I am not sure if this has more to do with the surgery or the stroke... I'm just trying to take things one day at a time
