November Surgery Buddies!!!
Valboosky replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just hit 6 months over the weekend. 111lbs down so far. just really looking forward to getting in the 200s. I do feel like the restriction is far less in terms of what I can stomach now so it take a little more determination, but it does absolutely prevent any kind of binge, which is great. -
Why was just given Eliquis (anti blood clotting pills). why in the hell would they give you injections?

Surprisingly in the last week or so I've lost more weight and I've been less careful about what I eat in terms of counting calories. Maybe I was having too little? -

Yeah it would be a pain to change back and forth, would be nice if they made an adapter to change seats easily -

Ha! I ordered another seat right after my first ride. The good thing is, it will accept any regular bike saddle, so I ordered a fat guy saddle. -

I have officially reached 2 months post-op. 63 lbs down so far. I was getting lazy again on exercise, mostly because the weather hasn't been great. I just bought myself a Peloton bike, so far having fun with it. -
How’s your hospitals doing around the US?

Surprisingly in New York (Columbia New York Presbyterian) everything was on track for me, got the surgery on Nov 29th and my doctor told me they haven’t had to postpone anyone. Then again it is one of the bigger hospitals in the country. -
Sugar free Jell-o helps a lot. Day 2-3 are the worst, gets much better after that.

You’ll be fine! Worst part of it is probably the Gas pains for the first few days. Make sure you start walking as soon as you can. I was insisting on walking just hours after surgery, the incisions themselves don’t really hurt. when I got home someone suggested I start right away on some Miralax and Gas-x, that really saved me.

I was allowed to take solid capsules 3 weeks out from surgery.

We are the couple that mostly hosts events like Christmas and New Years for our family. I have to say, it has been somewhat hard for me to work that hard on preparing a feast for family and barely getting more than a few ounces in. Then just sitting there at the table looking at everybody eat for the rest of the meal. At least family has been extremely supportive of my decision, same for friends. I feel awful for people that have had pushback from their loved ones. -
I’ve read intermittent fasting might be the way to get by on the lower calories if I need to maintain that. To be honest I’m pretty much forcing myself to eat at the moment. I can easily see doing two meals a days and having 1000 calories.

The stall is very real. Eating 600-700 calories every day and meeting my protein goals and weight loss has slowed to a crawl going into week 4. Anyone else have it happen? how many calories are you guys eating? -
Careful with the rice. I've seen many people on here say that's how they got sick the first time. Basically, the logic is that the rice can still increase in size once it has reached your sleeve and make you throw up.

Looks like I finally got past this dreaded 3rd week stall. Weight started dropping again, pretty happy and feeling good. -

That's impressive. Keep up the great work. -
I agree 100%, I even stayed with my therapist to make sure my mindset didn't change after surgery.
-
I didn’t have pain from the incisions themselves but I had lots of gas pain for 4-5 days. After that I felt pretty good.
-
Yeah I just ended going without. What offered the most relief for me honestly was Gas-x

Scheduled for Jan 12th and getting cold feet. Is VSG "worth it"?

I guess people have wildly different experiences. I’m officially 2 weeks post op and would absolutely go on a cruise right now. the first 3-4 days for me were rough, mostly due to gas pains. As soon as my digestive system started working well again I’ve been feeling much better and now I would say I’m about 90%. Still a bit weak from the low calories intake I think. A nice relaxing cruise seems like exactly what the doctor ordered. This past weekend I had to drive back from NY to Florida after surgery and back to work. -

Yes, I’m in a surprising amount of pills. I’m on two different high blood pressure meds despite my latest readings being 120/80. I’m on Eliquis which is a blood thinner/anti clot. Also meds to prevent gall bladder stones which can happen with rapid weight loss. Also vitamin D pills. I’m trusting my surgeon. He’s the head of minimally invasive surgery at Columbia in NY and I’m told he’s one of the best in the country. -

The part I hate the most so far is crushing the many meds and having to take them that way. I've also been struggling with protein shakes as they are very sweet. I've never been one to really like sweets.
