    3 Days Post-op

Well, it has been three days since surgery and I have been feeling great!:frown: Today I got up early, fed the animals, did some house cleaning, went into town and ran some errands (nice to be able to drive again), I even went grocery shopping. I took my son to the grocery store to buy some food, what a weird experience! I was not hungry at all, I saw lots of yummy food, but I was able to pass and it did not even bother me. It was a very strange trip. I bought food for everyone in the house but me! Kind of cool. I was approved to start full liquids and that seems to be going very well. The protein is really very filling and I don't have very much before I am full. This is such a new experience for me. I am off of the pain meds as of today and hoping I don't have to go back. I am on an antibiotic just to make sure I don't get an infection.
  2. I am feeling great today. I was very busy up and about. I can't believe how good I feel. I was expecting it to be a lot tougher than it has been.

I went grocery shopping today, that was funny. It was a very weird experience. A lot of the food looked sooo good, but I wasn't even hungry, so I was able to pass and I didn't really care. Now that is a first!

  3. I am feeling great. I have been up and about, walking daily, cleaned house today, went grocery shopping and ran some errands. I have the Realize Band.

I have been so surprised at how good I feel. I was really expecting it to be a lot tougher.

    Hello to all

The unjury Proteins are really good. I like the chicken broth, the unflavored, chocolate and vanilla. I have been using the Bariatric Essentials - the vanilla is pretty good. I also like the Wonder Slim Mint Chocolate. I have also tried the New Whey Protein Bullets. Add them to crystal light or some jell-o and you get mega protein! Bariatriceating.com Dietdirect.com Unjury.com Are some of the sites I have been too. I am able to buy most of my products from the clinics office, nice and easy since I live in the same town.

    Naming your Band?

OMG! That is great! How fun, I had to start chuckling to myself as I was reading. Okay, I will get on the 'band' wagon:lol: and come up with a name!

    Stairs

I had to hike three flights of stairs today, 3 days out from surgery. I could feel it, but I just took it slowly. It wasn't that bad.

    Whew!

Congrats on the band! I hope you feel better. 88Keyz is correct - don't compare yourself to others. Do what you need to make sure you are feeling okay. Surgery effects everybody differently. I know that taking a shower sure felt great! Make sure you are sipping your Water and getting up and moving as much as you can. Take your pain meds - did they give you a some anti-naseau (sp) meds - take those too! I had to have some on day 2, it really did help!
  8. Lanakila~ Of course you may borrow it! Feel free.

Friday the 8th August - WEIGH IN!

Cutie~ Sorry about the migraine. Will they let you take anything for it. I have an okay on my imitrex, cut in 1/4s and take with Water. I hope you feel better, I definitely feel your pain!

    When to sip?

You should be drinking the 2oz about every 5-10 minutes, depending upon what feels good to you. Don't get behind. I did that and really struggled to get rehydrated! Congrats on the band! How exciting for you. I found that having a SF popsicle helps. I was able to feel like my mouth wasn't so dry. Keep sipping!

    Yes! I'm done!!!

Congrats on being an official bandster! Follow the advice everyone has given and you will be feeling better in no time! Walk, walk, walk and sip, sip, sip. That seems to really help. I was up doing housework today, running errands around town and grocery shopping. Anybody else done that yet. It was very weird. I am not hungry, the food looked yummy, but why bother buying it - weird!

    Realize band

I had the realize band on Aug 5. So far so good! I really love the website with all of the information and recipes! I am sure that I will use them as I get further along in the process. I was using the limited version of the website pre surgery, I love all the added features post surgery. If you haven't logged in to the site yet - it is something you can really use!
  15. Everyone is getting the Gas-X strips to help with gas after surgery. I have found that walking has been very helpful. I have not had the typical post surgery shoulder pain with banding. But it is also the first time with surgery I have been up and moving right away.
  16. I would not be afraid to see the doctor! They are there to help us through this process and I am sure you are not the first one to not lose weight. So don't fret, ask for the support! I was on a 1400 calorie/90 gram Protein diet before I was banded. The nutritionist said that would be where I would start once I was up to eating full foods. I think I was averaging about 1200 cal a day. I really had to learn to get the protein in - those were the weeks I lost the most. Remember, this is a different journey for each of us. Some will lose quickly and others will take more time. Don't get discouraged, you are on the way to a new slim you!

    Drinking while eating

I went to a nutrition meeting right before my surgery and they did a demonstration with yogurt. It was a great lesson to see what happens to your food when you add Water. At about 40 minutes the yogurt was still in the pouch and slowly moving down the tube. When they added water to the pouch, the food immediately slipped through into the stomach. No more food in pouch, no more feeling full. That was the point of the demonstartion was to let your food move slowly out so you don't feel hungry immediately after eating.

    Let's Get This Party Started!

Cutiew~ How fun to have friends in post-op! I started to get a migraine and could not figure out why - aha, now I know. I am pretty much off the pain meds now. I felt pretty good today. I have been outside walking each day and that really seems to help. I started full liquids today and it is funny, I can hardly 'eat' anything. Kind of cool, I made a protein shake and maybe had 1/4 of it and I was done. On Monday I would have downed the whole thing in under 5 minutes! Hope you have a quick and easy recovery!
  19. Welcome to the board! This is a great place for info and support. I was banded Aug 5th. So far so good. I did have to have my bandages changed, the steri strips came off. The PA had me start some antibiotics just to be safe, the port incisions was looking a little irritated. I am glad you are taking care of yourself - I have the same challenge, everyone is first and I am last. I am so glad to be taking care of myself and putting my health first. This is such an exciting journey, I am so glad to be banded and on my way!

    Question About Anthestia

Stop watching scary movies before your surgery! They will give you a happy cocktail to ease the nerves and the next thing you know you are waking up from surgery in the recovery room. They will go over all of the possible complications with you, they have to by law. But don't let that get to you. You will be so much healthier and happier after having had this surgery. You are going to make a life change and it is scary - but I think the benefits outweigh the risks.
  21. Goals: Hmm, this could be fun after reading everyone elses! 220#: Feel great about riding my horse! I can't wait, I almost sold him this spring, but then I really started investigating (for the 2nd time) getting the band. So I didn't sell him and I am so excited about being able to ride again:thumbup: 199#: Have a freakin party for myself! I can't remember putting a number 1 in front of my weight. I will definitely buy some cute new clothes. Bras and panties will be fun to buy - I can't wait! At this point I think I can get serious about running again, in a weird way I am excited about this. I would love to run a marathon with my husband. 170#: Ride the rides at Disneyland this spring - that will be so fun. I have been too afraid of the bars not fitting, so I haven't ridden a roller coaster in way too many years! 150#: Woo Hoo, this is the big GOAL! I am hoping to be off my meds by this point. I want to buy some really great clothes and maybe a really cute swim suit! OMG Take a romantic vacation with my husband. It would be a treat for both of us! To reach my goals: I will eat a low cal, low carb diet I will exercise at least 4x a week for 30+ minutes I will not beat myself up for setbacks. This is a journey and I will reach goal in my own time in my own way. I have a very valuable tool to help me get to where I want to be!:cool2: Along the way I will love myself.

    Let's Get This Party Started!

PJ~ I haven't had the pain you are talking about. Started with protein today. And it really is very filling, I have not been hungry at all - yet! I tried to have some chicken broth (unjury) for dinner and could only get about half way through it. This is the first time since surgery I have felt 'full'. I would try taking smaller sips and giving your stomach time to empty between meals. If the pain keeps up, I would give the doc a call and see what they say.

    A few pre op Q's

Kaytie~ The pre-op diet really does vary from clinic to clinic. Some people are on a 2 week diet to none at all. It just depends. I was required to lose 10 lbs before surgery. I followed the nutrition guide for post-banding to help lose weight. They weren't strict about having a liquid only diet, which was kind of nice. I did have to be on Clear Liquids the day before, which wasn't bad at all. My process was really quick. I started in June and just had my surgery on Aug 5th. I was self-pay so I did not have to jump through any insurance hoops. I was able to get into all of the pre-op appts pretty quickly. Because I was self-pay I was on a waiting list for the dietician and was moved up really quickly, in fact I ended up seeing her the day of the seminar. My psych eval was about 2 weeks later. I also had to have an endoscopy (sp) to check the stomach and esophogas and be seen by the sleep clinic. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I felt like I was moving from appt to appt and then real quick it was surgery day! Good luck in the process!

    Anxiety pill, anyone?

Ha ha, I am right there with the rest of you. Wish I could have that IV hooked up at school with a little happy juice to get me through the day! Don't worry, they do usually give you something to calm down - everyone is a bit nervous before they go into surgery - it is natural! Good Luck!
