Tell the Truth, Did you cheat AT ALL on your Preop Diet?
krtork replied to Ineedalapband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ok, ok, I did sneak in a few things pre-op. I have a horrible addiction to all things crunchy and salty - the Cheez-Its looked to good, I couldn't help it! I did have potato chips with my sandwich a few times too. I agree with the word use, Lanakila, we really do need to make that a priority as we make this change. Beating ourselves up isn't going to help! We need to be able to move ahead and keep ourselves on the right path, which will not be a straight path for any of us, we are all human and we will stray. I found with my pre-op diet, I was starting to get the hang of moving back on track and not feeling so guilty. I really wanted to have this surgery and be able to say good bye to the weight for good, that was a huge motivator. But the verbage and mindset of guilt were still there. I will really have to work on that one! -
Good Luck to those being banded 15 AUG 08

Good Luck 15s! See you on the other side! -
Lauralee~ too funny! I felt the same way! My bloating has gone down considerably since last Tuesday. I have only had one BM, but I am still on liquids and haven't been too worried. I have been using the Crystal Light LivActive, it is pretty good tasting. I used pre-op (2x a day) and it really seemed to help get things moving!

Lanakila~ thanks for the translation, most of it I can figure out as I read - nice to know I was on the right track! I think it is crazy how different everybody's pre-op and post-op diets are. Everybody has the same sequence, post-op, it just varies in length from doc to doc. Pre-op is really all over the place. I was on a low cal diet for a month, I saw the nutritionist really early in my process so I was able to get that started and then I had to be on Clear liquids the day before surgery.

Pain management after surgery? What did you have?
krtork replied to ShelbyD's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Shelby~ I am right there with you. I had some discomfort but breezed right through. I was on Lortab, but used it for a few days and was off of it by the third day. I am glad it was 'easy' for me, I have had a rough surgery, and that was no fun! -
Congrats! Welcome to bandland! Woo Hoo! I hope you can get the prescriptions filled soon! Keeping up with the pain meds is a must - you will feel sooooo much better! That is rough trying to keep up with your son, right out of surgery. I feel for you! Let us know how things are going - it gets better each day!

New to the Forum. How is everybody doing?
krtork replied to bigmanhargett's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Big Mike, you will soon be Half Mike! I am just going to back up what everybody else just told you: You are losing that 30 lbs for the last time! I, like you, and most others on the forum have lost the same pounds too many times and we usually gain that back plus more! You are lucky to be seriously looking at this at such a young age. I wish I could take back the past 16 years and have do overs at a healthy weight! Good luck on your venture! -
Surgery Scheduled for August 15th and I have questions
krtork replied to patrick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think everybody is different with their pain tolerance. I felt pretty good and think I could have gone back to work 4-5 days post-op, especially if it was a desk job. Across the board everybody seems to have the pain at their port site a bit longer, but it is tolerable. I was off pain meds by the end of the third day. The thing to watch for is the gas pains and gas that you will have. Some people struggle more with it than others. I have always had shoulder (gas pain) after surgery and this time I did not. As far as hunger, about day 5 I actually felt hungry, but I was able to keep it down by keeping up on my Protein and sipping my Water. I am on a liquid diet for three weeks post-op, so I can't comment on the fullness you would feel with mushies. Hope this helps! -
I saw a post on proteins a day or so ago in the nutrition posts. You might check it out and see what else you could add in.

I went with the Realize band. My doc does both, but he seems to be leaning more toward the Realize, I really like the online support, it is very extensive and you can make the info available to your doc so they can also see your progress and how things are going. I don't know about fills yet, I just had my surgery 1 week ago.
-
Arizonagirl~ be careful and don't over do it. You sound like me! I was up and at it and cleaning, etc before I should have been. Make sure you don't get yourself too tired and sore! I felt great and then had some major pain on Monday evening, 1 week after surgery. I think I just had been pushing too hard and my body was telling me to take it easy! I am now feeling better after taking it a bit slower the last two days.

1 Day til Liquid Diet... 8 Til Surgery
krtork replied to maleliz777's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You can do it! Just make sure you keep up on the Protein and it is not so bad. Focus on the outcome and next week will fly by. You will be in surgery and become an official bandster in no time at all! -
Glad you are feeling better! I wish I could go to mushies, I still have to wait 11 more days, argh! I can't wait to chew. I did have an NSV today that made me not feel so sorry for myself. I was down a size in clothes, I needed new pants and was pretty excited when I went down a size!
-
The swelling will go down in about a week. I am finally looking back to normal, just a small bit of swelling at my port incision. It will get better every day ladies! Just hang in there. It is amazing how each day you feel better and able to move and do more. Just keep sipping those liquids and taking those walks!

hunger pains? hmmmm....i feel nothing
krtork replied to liquidbluegal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was not hungry at all until about day 5 or 6, then it really kicked in. I wanted to chew! Oh well, I still have another 11 days of full liquids - I will get there! A lot of it was head hunger, not real hunger. That is something I am going to have to learn to deal with and not respond to. -
I was right there where you are now. The surgery was a piece of cake. The doc was done in about 45 minutes. It is fairly non-invasive, yeah every surgery is a risk, but this one is pretty in and out. Especially if your doc has a lot of experience. Easy for me to say now! I would write the letter if it puts your mind at ease, but don't get to worked up, you will be fine and in bandland in no time at all! I wish you all the best of luck - you will be so glad that you go through with the surgery. Hang in there!

Melolo~ Way to go on the weight loss! Doesn't it feel good to be losing!
-
Thanks! I new you all would understand! It made me not feel so hungry to chew on something today. LOL
-
Sooo, I went to the store today, because all of my pants are falling off of me and I need something to wear when school starts. I am down a size in pants and I tried on a 18/20 dress and it fit! I started crying in the dressing room. I have not seen a '1' in front of clothes size for about 12 years! I was sooo excited!

Way to go! I am trying to stay off the scale and weigh once a week, that is hard when the scale is slowly movin' down every day!:biggrin2: I have a post-op appt on thursday, so I will use that as my official weight this week! I can't wait to see what it says. I am now able to take on and off all my pants without unzipping and unbuttoning. I felt like a high school boy with my crack hanging out today when I was walking around! Kinda fun - I was hoping to get through the next two months without having to buy clothes, but I don't think that will happen!

Today I am one week out from surgery. For the most everything has been great! I feel good, I am still losing weight, and I have not been too hungry. I did have a bad night last night. My port area was very sore and cramping. It was hard to get up and move. I went out to change irrigation and by the time I came in I was doubled over and sweating - it was very strange. I did take some pain meds and was finally able to relax. I think I have been pushing it, since I have felt so good. This morning I felt good and was able to get out and about. When I finished at school, I came home and have been relaxing, I feel much better!
-
Happy One Week! I was banded the same day. I started protein shakes on Thursday last week and have not had any problems. I still have to do one more week of full liquids before the doc will let me go to mushies - I can't wait!
-
new bander two weeks post-op
krtork replied to luvmegal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Mushies are foods that are blended - I still have 2 weeks to get there! Just make sure you blend the food, combos until they are smooth, no lumps or bumps! You can check out the mushie recipies on this site, some look yummy! -
I saw the doctor today and I'm scared to death!!!!!
krtork replied to Cathrine Ray's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cathrine, that is crazy! I have never heard of such a thing. Did your doc give you some answers to your questions? I hope so! I had something similar when I did my endoscope - they found that I have Barrett's Disease - pre-cancerous cells in the esophagus (sp). Nice! Same thing, I would have never known had he not done the procedure. They will be doing a 'burn' procedure to get rid of the cells and see if they grow back normally. It is scary when you find out something about your health when you had no clue that anything was wrong. I feel for you! Do some research and get some answers. I am thinking of you! Kristen -
Wishing all 12/08/08'ers the best for tomorrow!!
