    I'm home

Welcome to bandland! Keep drinking that Water, don't get dehydrated!
  2. I was also on my weight loss diet before surgery and it went really well. I had to do clear liquids the day before surgery. It wasn't too bad and I lost 20 lbs! Good luck with the surgery!

    Afraid to Try New Foods

Thanks for the advice. I busted out and had some ricotta with spaghetti sauce this evening, it was very yummy. I have been having refried Beans with a bit of salsa and sprinkle of cheese and I have had scrambled eggs with salsa. I love salsa, if you can't tell! Misty, I am also leary about the carbs, absolutely love them! I did have a baked potato the other day with some sour cream, the kids went to Sonic and I stopped to get some Soup to eat on the go, but couldn't find anything that was smooth, so went for the potato. It really filled me up and was very heavy, didn't feel good in the tummy. I guess it is all a learning experience. I just have to give it a try and see what works. I might try some tuna tomorrow and see how that goes.

this that fall on the floor stay there?

I pick things up with my feet all of the time. Just a weird thing that I do. It really is easier than having to bend over all the time! LOL I have four dogs so any food that hits the floor is fair game, they are pretty quick!

    Is anyone else itchy?

Itching is healing, just don't scratch! I found that rubbing gently around the site seemed to relieve most of the itchiness.

Keep grinning, it's only going to get better! Keep sipping, you don't want to dehydrate and end up back in the hospital!

Anyone else feel the same way?

Melissa~ You will put yourself at a higher risk of dying if you don't have the surgery! The surgery is worth it. I can't believe how different I already feel and it has only been 2 1/2 weeks. You should do this for yourself and your family! You have a ton of support here. Go for it!

    what do you consider mushies

I was given the go ahead on mushies and I am in heaven! Nice to stick something in my mouth and chew, even though there is nothing to really 'chew'. I have had pudding, scrambled egg with salsa, refried beans with salsa and a sprinkle of cheese. Any other suggestions, this is going to get old quickly! The thought of pureeing meat, is not very appetizing. Anybody else afraid of eating? I am afraid to try new things, not sure how my tummy will react. Kind of weird for somebody addicted to food afraid to eat!

    2 questions: Laughing and Steri-strips

I still have some of my steri-strips on, was banded two weeks ago. They are starting to pull off, except for two of the incisions that I had to have retaped after surgery. The itching started about a week or more after surgery, itched like crazy, I too have noticed that it does not itch so much in the last couple of days. My port area is still pretty sensitive, if I bump up against a counter, I can feel it. I still, out of fear I think, grab my stomach when I sneeze! Laughing hasn't been too bad, except in the beginning! Everything seems to be better each day!

Be Careful What Your Drinking (Calories)

Just because you can eat it does not mean you should! Good advice! I have been surprised at some of the foods people are eating so soon after surgery. Make sure you are tracking your daily calories and Protein, very important!

    Nerves Kicking In

Your nerves are normal. Just look forward to the big change you are making for your life and how much healthier you will be for it! Surgery will go fine. Make sure you ask questions in the hospital so you know what is happening. They are more than happy to answer your questions and make you feel comfortable. Make sure you get your pain med prescription filled ahead of time if you can. Then it will be ready when you get home from the hospital, you won't have to make an extra stop! Good luck, can't wait to hear how everything went!
  18. I would request a study from your doctor, so they can refer you. I wasn't sure if I had sleep apnea or not, and I did the sleep study and now have a cpap. My sleep has definitely improved! I am much more rested then I was before.

    Surgeon in Oregon

I went to the sleep center and the docs office did the endoscope. I did have an earlier appt for my psych eval. But I am sure they would work with you to have a later appt, or maybe a Sat morning? Have you been to the seminar and had an appt with the surgeon? All the people that I have worked with have been very accomodating to help me make this work. Good luck!

    I cheated....now what?

I was able to eat right up until the day before surgery when I went to clear liquids. Don't sweat it. You made a poor choice and now you will make good choices. Recommit to follow your docs plan! Good luck with your surgery!

Welcome to the group! Hope all goes well! Let us know how the surgery goes!

    I'm Baaaack!! WOO HOO!!!

Glad surgery went well. Sorry about the migraine - they are horrible! I felt like each stage took forever! When I was on clear liquids I wanted full, on full liquids I wanted mushies. Started that phase today, it is nice to chew - but now I am having mouth hunger, just wanting to chew and swallow. Something new to deal with!

    Surgeon in Oregon

I live in Bend and was able to get later appts. I can't get into see doc or anybody for that matter until after 4:00 and I have not had any problems. I don't know how late you need an appt, but I think they would try to work something out. Or maybe get them on one day, where you could take the day off. The appts were spread out over a couple of months, but everything worked out great! I too was self-pay, so able to move through the process pretty quickly. I agree with everybody else, the docs are seeing that you are ready and healthy before they give you the band. It is actually reassuring and I even found out that I had another issue that would have never been discovered had they not done all the pre-testing. Good luck!

Congrats on your band! Sounds like the surgery went well and you are feeling great! I got my band on the 5th and I am so excited about losing weight and getting healthy! Keep up the good work!

    Need some advise

I would go to the meeting! When you go you will get information about the band, how it works and they usually have patients there that will tell their story and you can ask them questions. I was like you, I knew what to do to lose weight, it just didn't work for me. You will find lots of info on this site. You will find that there are people that have huge success and those that struggle with the band. It is a decision that you have to weigh. I went with the band, because I knew I needed a tool to help me get the weight off. I am just banded so I can't tell you what this will look like long term, but so far so good! The band isn't a magic pill, it is put in place to help you learn to live a new healthier lifestyle. You have to work at losing the weight and making sure you are eating the right foods and exercising. If you are ready to make that commitment to yourself, then the band may be right for you! I encourage you to investigate and find out if this is something that can help you!
