I have finally started moving down the scale again! Last week: 215 This week: 212 Yeah! I am so glad to see the scale move down. I was not able to get my scheduled fill this week, which I need, but have an appt for this coming Friday. I am almost to my half way point. I can't believe how quickly it has gone. I have 6lbs to go. Great to see everybody moving down the scale!

Lellow & Shamrock, Congrats! I was supposed to have my 3rd fill yesterday, the dr office power was out and I had to reschedule. I was bummed, I feel like I am getting close and now I can't get in for another week. At least I will get it done before turkey day!

To Tell or Not to Tell, That is the Question.
krtork replied to Ineedalapband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my husband tell my mil. We are going out to see them for Thanksgiving and I didn't want her thinking that I didn't like her cooking or that I was being rude. She would notice I wasn't eating "enough" and make it into a big deal. She was actually really supportive and excited that I had wls and was losing weight and feeling well. So it ended up being a good thing and cleared the air before we get together. -
Count me in - sounds like a bunch of fun!

Bread vs. low carb tortillas..hard to eat?
krtork replied to weightisover's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I made a mini-pizza with a half pita the other night. It was yummy. The pita was crispy so it made it easy to digest. It went down fine. I made sure that I chewed really well. Tortillas have been a big check in the no column for me! I used to eat burritos all the time, not anymore. -
OUCH! Port was hard to find at last fill.....
krtork replied to jadeesmjk's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Should not have read this thread, I have my third fill tomorrow! Oh my, I hope it goes well. I feel as if my port has moved with the weight loss. The first two times went really well and they were able to find the port with the first stick of the needle! I hope you are all doing better, does not sound like fun! -
Lellow~ I have been trying to measure 1x a month. I think that is a real indicator of how you are doing. Sometimes the tape measure shows more success than the pounds!

Anyone had 1st fill with "Realize" band?
krtork replied to Keri7227's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my band put in on Aug 5, 08 and I have had two fills so far for a total of 4.5cc. I think that I am getting close. I have had much more restriction with the second fill, but I am hungry at about 2 hrs. I can eat more than 4 oz, easily, but I do have foods that are hard to eat. I have had steady weight loss, but have been at the same weight for the past two weeks. I am scheduled for my third fill tomorrow, can't wait! I want to see the scale move down!!! -
Any great Central Oregon doctors?
krtork replied to beckyl's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I went to Dr. Archer at Advanced Specialty Care. I love the office, the staff, the program and Dr. Archer! They have been great and very supportive. There is support group each month and you can always contact the staff with any questions. They hold their information meetings on the 3rd Tue of each month at SCMC. I was self-pay and it was $15K for the Realize band. It was worth every penny! Let me know if you have any other questions! -
Emily stick with it! Remember that you did not gain all the weight over night. You chose the band to help you get your weight and eating under control. Make sure you are taking it one day at a time. Don't beat yourself up if you stray from the path, you are human and you will make bad choices occasionally, but that is how we learn! You have lost 11 lbs that you will not have to lose again - that is a great thing!

I get on the scale every morning before I shower. I have to have the numbers staring me in the face to keep going! I know that they will fluctuate from day to day, but I try to keep myself motivated by making sure the scale isn't moving in the wrong direction. I wish I could way once a month, but I know myself too well, the scale could start creeping up ever so slowly. I am afraid it would get away from me too quickly.

Bad week. I had a bunch of stress and guess what I turned toward to get me through - food! Ugh. Oh well, I did not gain, just stayed the same. I need to make better choices when I am feeling stressed! My exercise is going well, I could kick it up a bit - that is my focus this week!

Claudine I have felt the same way. It is hard to see the change, but I know my clothes are not lying to me. One of my students said I needed another new pair of pants, I had a baggy butt! How funny is that, they are a new pair of pants and already getting really loose. The hard work is paying off. I think some people are afraid to say anything because "weight" is a taboo topic and they don't want to offend you. I agree, that it would be nice if they would say something, we are all working so hard and you want that to be recognized! So. . . WTG Everyone, you are lookin' great!

Heartfire - right there with you. I have a hard time slowing down, especially when I am at school. I have such a short lunch and students in my room all the time, I don't have time to focus! I seem to be doing better in the evenings, but I know I could slow down more. I even put down my silverware between bits and try to chew slow, it is hard to undo those bad habits!

2nd fill w/Realize band 6cc total no restriction
krtork replied to betrthnever's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have had two fills and definitely have felt restriction. I have been stuck 2x because I was eating too fast and both times I was eating ground beef. I have to really focus on slowing down when I eat, that has been the hard part. I have another fill scheduled in two more weeks, I might not need it yet. My dr has been great about letting us come in early if we feel that we are getting hungry and need more of a fill. I know with my first fill I was tight for the first week and then it really loosened up. This one seems to be sticking longer! -
First patients to have Realize...let's hear from you!
krtork replied to 2BtinyinTN's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everyone! I had my surgery Aug 5 and had the Realize Band. I love it! I lost 20lbs before surgery and have lost an additional 32 since my surgery. I have had two fills for a total of 4.5cc. I am really feeling pretty good restriction since this last fill. Now I just have to fight the head hunger & stress eating! I love how I feel and I wish I could have done this sooner! I have started the Couch to 5K program and love being active and starting to run again. I have my goal of running the Jingle Bell Run in December. Even if I can't run the whole thing, I am going to participate! -
Sounds like you might be too tight. I have had some issues of being tighter in the morning and loosening up as the day goes on, but it hasn't been really bad. On those days, I go with something warm to drink in the mornings, just to loosen everything up. I'm still trying to hit the sweet spot! It seems that I am tighter right after a fill and really loosen up about 2-3 weeks later.

Saying goodbye to my clothes....
krtork replied to CorvetteFerrari's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am just the opposite, I want my clothes to go away and my husband says I should keep them, just in case. No just in case, I never want to go back to that size again! I have dropped two sizes and have totally thinned my closet down. I can't wait to shop for more new clothes! -
Too soon to vacuum?
krtork replied to GratefulHeart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just listened to my body to decide what I could and could not handle. I was out mowing pasture and moving irrigation pipe about 5 days out. No problems. -
Are there foods you can't eat anymore?
krtork replied to dietpeach's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have the Realize band and have found that red meat, especially hamburger is hard to tolerate. I have been using ground turkey instead. I can still eat chicken, dark meat seems to go down better. I can't have any doughy bread - but I have been staying away from bread as much as possible. That was one of the things that got me here! I have tried pizza, I usually can eat two small bites of the tip and that is it - the rest won't go down. Broccoli is a big NO for me, can't handle it! I have been adding new foods and seeing how they go down. I know that everybody is different, what works for one doesn't work for the other! Everybody was raving about canned tuna at group last week, came home and tried some, I can't eat it. -
Starting weight: 267 Surgery weight: 247 Current weight: 215 Total Lost: 52lbs I feel great!

Was super busy on Friday, but I did hit the scale down 2 more lbs!

Ashleyrenee~ Hang in there! You need to start making better choices right now! Don't let what you did today, yesterday and the day before color where you are headed NOW. Make a plan for what you will eat, measure your food out and make sure you are getting your Water in! Try to get out and exercise when you feel like eating. That is always the hardest part! I want to come home from work and plop down and eat. I change as soon as I walk in the house and head out the door for my walk/run. I always feel better when I get home! Make some good choices and don't put yourself down, you are human and you will make mistakes!

Claudine~ So glad you are doing better! How scary!!! I have been tight since my last fill, but nothing like that. I am glad that you shared your story. I will keep that in mind when I go for my next fill!

Hang in there. It will only get better. Make sure you are sipping your water! I found that warm broth felt good going down in the early stages.
