I ran my first 5K today. I was not going to run the whole thing, but ended up doing it anyway! I ran it in 39:20. I was supposed to do my 25 min run today and ended up running the whole thing, well I did walk for about 2 min, but I was able to keep going. I was pretty excited. I am now looking to see when the next 5K is to keep myself motivated. I also plan on continuing with the Couch to 5K program so I can be better prepared for the next one.

Gilta~ Making the plan will put you back on track! Way to go, keep us posted on how you are doing and for support! You can do this!

Finished my first 5K today in 39:20! I was pretty stoked, I haven't run that far yet, but I knocked it out and it wasn't that bad! I was supposed to do my first 25 minute run today, so I did get that in and some more. I am starting week 6 of couch to 5K on Monday. I will keep plugging along. I am doing a happy dance because I know that 6 mos ago I would have never even considered running in a race! Woo Hoo!

Friday Morning Weigh in - 5th December 2008
krtork replied to lellow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Stayed the same. I get keep bouncing in a 3lb range, just want it to move. I need to change up my exercise. I have been running, but need to add some strength training. Congrats to everyone that is moving down the scale! Keep up the good work! -
I'm on board with everyone else, that is extreme! Your body needs fuel so that it can heal from the surgery. You think that you could at least do Clear liquids so you could have some broth. I was able to have broth, sf Jello, sf popsicles for the first 2 days and then I could start adding small amounts of Protein shake to start upping the calories and protein I was taking in. You might want to check with your dr office if you are feeling weak and run down to see if you could add some nutrients. Congrats on the band!

I agree with getting the fill. Trying to head into the holidays with all the food and goodies would be really tough! This whole process is about relearning and getting rid of old habits, there will be times that we revert back to what was comfortable, that is okay, if you learn from those times. Right now is a new day and time to rededicate to your band! You have had great success, stick with it and you will be back on track. We are all here to support you! Good luck and go book that fill!

That would be great to be nominated for "What Not to Wear" I have hinted to my students that would be a nice surprise for their shrinking teacher! You should run/walk and then you won't feel so stressed. I definitely feel better on the days that I run/walk. I don't want to go, but I put on my shoes and head out the door and I feel soooo much better after I get back to the house! No excuses, strap on your shoes, get out there and go!

If you won the $10,000 you could buy all new clothes! Oh yeah! It has been cold off and on lately, I am dreading when it gets down to the 30s and holds, no fun. We have had pretty good weather in the evenings, sitting around the mid-40s so nice to run. I did my first 20 minute run today, woo hoo! I wasn't sure if I could do it, but it wasn't that hard. I am ready to move to week 6!

Wow, Karen, that is great! I can't even imagine being down 100 lbs. I can't wait to get there. It feels so great to be down 59 lbs. I will fill like a feather at 100 lbs and be able to run like the wind! Okay, I do get carried away sometimes - LOL!
-
You will love flying, I loved the fact that I fit in the seat and could put the tray down and it was not propped on my stomach, I actually was able to pull it out to use it - pretty darn cool! The insulated lunch box should keep it cool. You could even get one of the insulated lunch bags, they are pretty collapsable and could fit in your purse or carry on.

I am now officially overweight and not obese.

That is so great! WTG! I double checked mine the other day and I was down to 31 from 40. -
First off, I hate you! JK! I have never been to Hawaii, how fun! I just spent this last week traveling and found it pretty easy in the airport to get something that I could eat. I found a Quiznos and had them grill some chicken with swiss for me, that was pretty good. There is usually some place that makes burritos, you could eat the filling. Most of the salads are huge, but I have had a side salad and asked for a grilled chicken breast. You just have to be creative and ask for what you know you can eat. I really have not had too many problems in restaurants ordering. I just tell them what I need and it usually works out great. Sometimes the hotel will offer a Breakfast, and they usually have oatmeal, that seems to really work well for me in the morning. You could bring plain Protein powder to add to your meals, that will ensure that you get your protein in. Just don't forget your Water, I made sure to get one before each flight, so I had something on the plane. Hope that helps a little, have fun on your trip! I wish I could go somewhere warm and sunny!

Friday Morning Weigh In - 28th November 2008
krtork replied to lellow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Down 2lbs this week. I am glad that I was able to really control my eating this week and keep it under control. I even did my exercise, which is really amazing for me! -
I hate running on the treadmill too. I just make sure I strap on my shoes and head out the door as soon as I get home from work, I know if I don't there are a million reasons why I "can't" run! I will probably turn to the treadmill as the weather gets worse, can't say that running in 20 degree weather is any fun!
-
Shamrock~ Hope you are doing better. I had a pretty good meal this afternoon with no episodes, thank goodness, I was at the in-laws. I didn't overeat and really enjoyed my time with my family. It was snowy and cold so I did not get out to walk today, have a travel day all day tomorrow, so I will be back on the exercise on Saturday!
-
Wow! I am jealous!
-
Woo Hoo! I have been trying for almost two weeks to get through the second day of week 5 (the two 8 min runs), I DID IT! Yeah! It felt so good to bust through. I was able to do the 3 fives no problem, the two 8s were killing me. I could do the first 8min but not get through the 2nd. I am so glad to be over that hurdle, I was determined to get it out of the way today! Of course I am going to redo this day again on Saturday (when I get home) it might not be so easy at the higher elevation, but I will see! Just had to share.
-
Just checking in. I am down 2 lbs, hoping to be down more by Saturday, won't be able to weigh in on Friday, long travel day home! yeah, I want to sleep in my own bed!

Make sure you do your research, go to the seminar and talk to your doc with a list of questions and concerns. Don't count on your memory when you go in! You have to choose which surgery is right for you. I went with the lapband for financial reasons (self-pay) and because I was worried about losing weight so fast with bypass, I was also worried about changing my anatomy and not being able to go back if I had serious issues. I spoke with my doc/PA/case worker and others and found that the lapband would be a good choice. I am so glad that I chose it. This isn't a magic cure. You do have to work at the band, watch what you eat and exercise, but it does make the losing much easier. You will have some pain from the surgery, but a fairly quick recovery. You have to follow your docs orders to a T to be successful. Exercise has been the hardest part for me, it always has been, but now that I have lost some weight it is easier and I am enjoying it more. I hope you make a decision that works for you! WLS has been life changing for me and I would recommend it to anyone that is considering it! Good Luck!

need a confidance boost.....
krtork replied to AMJOHNSON's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think we all play a mind game when it comes to actually going in for the surgery, but that is normal. If you did not have some questions or fears, that would be weird. My last surgery before lapband was almost a disaster. I was afraid of the surgery and very nervous. I told my doc and PA about what had happened before and they were very reassuring, as was my DH. You just need to focus on what the long term outcome is for this surgery. Remember why you are taking this leap of faith and how great you are going to feel a year from now! No regrets! It is not going to be easy, you do have to work at losing weight, you just have the band to help make it a bit easier. Make sure you follow your docs orders to a T, that is what will make you successful. They know what they are doing. Use this forum as a support group and if you have a local support group make sure you go! I am so glad that I did this, I know you will be too! Keep us posted and let us know how surgery went! -
When you have true restriction you should feel full for at least 3 hours after eating; you should not be hungry all the time. I am starting to get that feeling, almost there. I hear you with the hunger! There are days when I could eat a horse! But I also have other days when I can hardly eat anything and feel full. It is frustrating figuring this band out. I think it is all a learning curve right now. We each have to figure out what works for us and wait until we hit that sweet spot! My big thing has been planning, if I plan I do much better. But on that note, I notice that I eat more on the weekends when it is easier to grab something and just pop it in my mouth. When I am at work and super busy during the day I don't seem to have the problem. So mind over matter in that instance, and believe me the matter wins 90% of the time!

Anxiety about Banding Tomorrow!
krtork replied to allie4908's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your surgery in the morning! Don't fret, you will go through a learning curve and figure out what works for you. It is especially important to follow your dr orders and stick to the plan that they prescribe for you. If they say Clear liquids for 3 days, that is what it is. I have found that following the rules has been the best way to keep me on track. There are tons of great recipes and ideas for food in the nutrition and exercise forum. I found a ton of great ideas on what to eat and how to keep it simple and on track. I too am a carb addict. That has been the hardest part about this whole process. I quit eating as many carbs pre-banding as I could, but it has been hard fighting back the urge to have a carb meltdown! I try to go low carb and get the urge out of my system, I thought I would die without bread, but I have found that I really don't need it. If you work to break the cycle, it will eventually become easier, but definitely something you will always have to watch for. Make sure you plan out your meals and what you will need to prepare them. It is so important. I always know that I have food on a designated shelf in the fridge and cupboard and no one else is allowed to get into it. That way I can come home when I am tired and don't want to "cook" and I always have something that I can grab to eat. I also had to break the fast food habit, because it was so easy to just drive through! I hope that this helps, good luck with the surgery! -
I have a dedicated shelf in the fridge - that way I can find my food quickly. I also have a shelf in the pantry. I try to make it as easy as possible. If I spend too much time looking for food, I will find something else! I love turkey meatballs. I found some that were premade in the grocery store, they are super easy, I usually just had some marinara and I am good to go, it is very filling. I also make sure to cook an extra piece of chicken, etc. when I do dinner, that way I have a leftover piece that I can use for lunches. I have oatmeal every morning. It is quick and filling. If I don't do that, I just won't eat, I have never been a big breakfast eater. There were some good food ideas listed, making me hungry!

Friday Morning Weigh In - 21st November 2008

Innotu~ Half way, how cool is that! WTG! -
Stick with it! You can do this. It does take will power, an unbelievable amount when you are not getting restriction. I just had my third fill and I am feeling some restriction and hoping number 4 will put me closer to that full feeling. I would suggets planning and measuring out your food. What you put on your plate is your meal and you have to stick to it. I always use a salad plate for my meals and a small 6-8 oz bowl for Soups or chili. It really does help. Make sure you eat slowly - that is a big challenge for me. I try to use small utensils, take a bit and put down my utensil until I have chewed well and swallowed the food. If I don't put down my utensil, the food seems to disappear off my plate and I find that I am less full feeling. Hope this helps! Make sure you go to your appt and talk to the dr, they want you to be successful too!
