Okay, so I was talking to my SIL over the winter break and she was telling me about a friend that is doing Tri's. Well, I get curious and I want to do one. I think it would be great! I have always been a strong swimmer, just need to get brave, put on a suit, jump in and get back in shape! Have been doing the C25K, love running again, it is my quiet time. I have to admit that I am dreading the biking. The last time I was on a bike, many years ago, I could hardly pedal up the street! That is my biggest challenge right now. I am going to browse the thread and get some hints and tips! WTG all of you that are already in training or have competed! I admire your grit and determination!

It sucks to have dial up! I will check it out first thing in the morning when I get to work.

Woo Hoo! Isn't it fun when those little victories happen!

Keep us posted on how you are doing! If you ever want someone to talk to feel free to PM me. I hope this week goes well for you and you can get back on track.

Just had surgery in Dec 08
krtork replied to starting again's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to bandster hell! This is the period when you have to stick to the plan that your dr has given you. It will be awhile before you feel real restriction from your band. You will feel hungry and you have to find ways to work through it. Even though you feel hungry make sure that you follow the plan that your dr gave you. Stay on liquids, move to mushies and regular food as directed. You want to protect your band and let it heal. I found that after the first couple of fills I would have good restriction for 4-5 days and then things would really loosen up again and I would be back to sheer will power. As far as the pain, make sure you take your pain meds as directed. Over time the pain will subside. Make sure you are up and moving and drinking your water! That seemed to be the thing that helped me get through the first couple of weeks. Congrats on your band! -
I am looking for typical meal ideas. Also I am confused on the amounts :/

Link to a great thread http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f9/share-ideas-what-did-you-eat-today-36828/ I have searched through just to see what people eat. -
I would ask your surgeon or nutritionist what they recommend. I use Benefiber, works for me. I can add it to my food or drinks and it doesn't have any taste. The nutritionist also suggested the psyllium they have at Trader Joe's. She said it was relatively inexpensive and worked. I haven't tried it yet.

I would definitely give your dr a call in the morning. Especially if you aren't feeling well. Part of the reason you felt stuck could be the food you ate, eating too fast, or not chewing well. I try to evaluate those three things if I get stuck. That way I can learn from my mistake. It is good to go slow and take it easy after you pb and get back on track! Hope this helps!

Sliming (alot of saliva) Regularly
krtork replied to bxlisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With my last fill I had the same issue. I felt like every time I tried to eat food I would slime. Argh! It would happen everyother day and I really had to watch what I was eating to make sure everything was going down well. This past couple of days I have not had that problem, but it was about 2-3 weeks of sliming. I have been able to eat substantial Protein and not just slider foods. I feel better. I was considering getting a slight unfill so I could eat again. I think that it is important that you are staying hydrated and getting in your calories and protein, if the sliming is preventing you from that, you should definitely give your dr office a call. I know a couple of times I did not chew as well as I should have, and that was my fault. This last fill is the first time I have had significant restriction, so it is a learning process to find what works! -
Meghan~ Take a deep breath and focus on the outcome of this surgery - your health! It is so worth it. I can't believe how much better I feel 5 months out. If your DH is supportive you are in luck. That will make this journey a lot easier. I wanted to do the surgery two years ago, DH was very skeptical and not ready yet. After doing the research and watching someone else go through the process he was ready. This has been huge! Consider yourself lucky that he is on your side and wants to support your effort to get healthy! It is natural to be nervous about surgery, you should be. I have found the surgery staff to be very helpful when you go in (I have had several surgeries), they will help you relax and put you at ease. Your DH will be able to stay with you in the pre-op. Usually the anesthesiologist will give you something to relax, they will roll you down to surgery and the next thing you know, you wake up with your band! Really only you know if it is the right thing for you. If you have come this far in the process I would imagine that you are ready for surgery. You are embarking on a life change, it will not be easy, it does require work and effort on your part. The outcome of being healthy and having the opportunity to start your family will be worth it. I wish you the best of luck, hang in there until Tuesday! If you have any other questions or just need support, feel free to PM me!

Judy~ If you click on any of the tickers it will take you to the site to make your own. It is pretty easy to do once you get there. Yesterday: 45 min Wii Fit - yoga, strength & balance. 10 min bike ride - thought I would give it a try. Note to self, don't ride when it is below 30, too cold! Today: 10 min walk, 25 min run. 15 min ab workout, if you can call it that! Today:

Darn, I need to get a nike+, I want to be in the challenge too. I thought I would order one, but it hasn't happened yet. I might call around town and see if anybody has one, that would be faster. Lyn~ your story is hilarious - sounds like something I would do! You probably scared the poor man to death! Georgia~ I hear you. I had to take two weeks off and thought I was going to die when I started back up! Just keep at it, you will come back faster than you think! I had a 25min run today and it went pretty well. The breathing is always the hardest. If I focus on breathing the hills don't seem so bad. Phew!

Kiki220~ I find that I am usually somewhat tight when I first get a fill. It takes a couple of days before I feel back to normal again. If you can't get Water or liquids down at all, I would call the dr and find out if they want you right back in or to give it a couple of days.

I also got the Beck Diet Solution Workbook. Has all of the concepts in a workbook format so you can write down your goals, plan your food, etc. I have found that I am famished when I get home from work - hmmmm, I am stressed and slipping into old habits. Come in the door, open the fridge and pantry and find something to make the stress go away! Argh!! I made a list of things to do when I reach for food and I am not really hungry. I have been coming home and exercising; I change my clothes and head out the door to walk, run, play with the dogs, whatever I can do besides eat! This usually puts that stress hunger at bay until I am ready to eat dinner.

I agree with the others, try Protein that has more substance to it and will not slide through so quickly. I have found that I stay full longer and feel more satisfied when I do that. Make sure you are tracking your calories and measuring your food. I find that when I start leaning toward the slider foods, I start eating more, because it goes right through and it is easy to eat just a little bit more. You have great weight loss so far! You can do this, it is great that you realize that some of your old habits are sneaking back in - you can put a stop to it right away and get back on track!

Jenita~ Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience! Ouch! My fills have been easy, the dr has done 1 of them and the PA has done the other three. In fact the PA did my first one and the dr was intimidated because she found my port and had such an easy time - LOL! As basic procedure, they numb the area first, I am thankful for that. They then pull out the current fill to make sure that the level is what it should be, and then they add the new amount. They have never had to poke around for the port - thank goodness!

Friday Morning Weigh In - 2 January 2009
krtork replied to Azlife's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Down 2 lbs: 205 this week. Woo Hoo, the scale is moving down again! -
I need something to keep that scale movin' down! Start: 205 Goal: 195 I can't believe I just typed a number that has a "1" in front of it!

10 lbs is great! WTG! That is a great loss, remember you are on track if you are losing 1/2 to 2lbs per week. I do the same thing that SunnyRachel does with frozen meals. If I have to eat a frozen meal, I eat the Protein first, then veggie and throw away the starch. I also agree with Chicamam1, too much sodium. You really have to watch it with prepared/frozen meals. Keep up the good work!

I'm in! Ran 18min, walked 10min for a total of 2.2 miles.

Happy New Year! We had a pretty boring night at our house, but everyone did stay up until midnight. I hit the road today, ran in the crazy wind! I actually had to stop one time and turn my back until the gust stopped. Going out was into the wind, coming back it was to my back, much easier, but I was so tired I barely made my run! I will do Wii Fit in the morning, no wind!

Sorry to hear that you are struggling. That is the pits about the insurance. Can the dr office put you on a cancellation list, maybe they could get you in sooner that way! Do you have time to exercise. I noticed you didn't say anything about that. It could help keep you on track, especially after work. It seems like that is when you are struggling the most. I am not struggling like you are, but I know that when I get home after work is when I have the hardest time. I have a habit of stress eating when I get home. I have to have a distraction, so I try to do my exercise as soon as I get home, that way I am not looking for food. Make sure you plan for dinner, that can also be helpful. That way you don't have to think about what you want to eat and look through all of the cabinets and fridge to find something. That is always deadly for me, it is easy to grab whatever you see and pop it in your mouth. Make sure you are checking in here. It is a great source of support! Do you have a local support group or someone that you can talk to in person that understands what you are going through? Remember that tomorrow is a new day and you can do this!

What a great post! It is so nice to be able to participate in family activities. Keep it up and your kids will have to try to keep up with you! -
Congrats to all that met or exceeded their challenge! WTG! I started at 212, goal 202, current 205. At least it went down! Happy New Year!
