They took the personal finance curriculum out at the state level several years ago and now they are reconsidering that decision. We are offering a personal finance class this fall - kids just need to know this stuff to get by in life. I can't tell you how many kids I help fill out their tax forms every year. Do their parents not pay taxes???

Glad she is okay! You are lucky she didn't have a reaction, that would have been horrible. Poor little thing!

Realize~ WTG! Congrats on finishing your first race! Bet you get the bug and are wondering when your next race will be! Kathy~ I teach high school marketing and business classes. I love my job - the kids are great! I love the trails and I do notice the oxygen difference when running up high. We usually run at about 5500-7000 feet. It isn't bad, but I do notice that I am slower and have to watch and regulate my breathing. However, it does pay off when I run in town, it is much easier. We are at about 3200 feet in town. That is great that you are going to get a break on the cost of child care for your kids. It must be hard to find good daycare for kids with special needs. That is great that your DD will get some more one on one time and hopefully DS will make a good transition to his new school. Run Brandy, run! I agree on the two days off. It is much easier to just find something else to do. Better to make it a habit and just run every other day. GA~ I am so happy for you that the headaches are gone. I bet you are ready to be back running again. You might find that you move ahead a bit faster this time when you start the C25K. I'm just glad to have you back with us!!! I have a 4.5 mile trail run, the last one with my class, tomorrow morning. Looking forward to it because we are on a new trail. I will let you know how it goes. We are starting to do a little bit of a taper for the 10K next weekend. I am excited about running the race!

My dogs also love fruits and veggies. They love raw carrots and green beans. They also love apples. I usually feed them as treats. When one of the dogs was on a diet, we fed her green beans as a filler so she didn't feel like she was starving, but she wasn't eating empty calories.

Hope the pup is okay! Ouch! I love Shelties they are so cute and very smart! I like to hike with my dog too, he loves to get out and smell the smells.

It is scary! They can type with their thumbs, but they can't type or use the programs! I still have kids erase and start over on the computer - duh! Or space, space, space to center things. If they aren't going to teach them to write, they should at least teach them to type and use the computer programs.

A 5 year old should have certain expectations while at school, but the teacher should not be giving him sad faces to bring home. I am a true believer in personal accountability - which is not in favor in US education these days. I think Brandy had the best suggestion. Meet with the teacher and soon, don't let this drag on. The teacher should not be labeling the poor kid the first week of school - those labels tend to stick! He probably just needs to understand what is expected and it may be hard for him, as a 5 year old, to listen and understand what he is supposed to do. Slim~ I know some schools are trying to meet the numbers and they do just get rid of kids that can't meet the expectations. On the other hand in the classroom I think a lot of districts are dumbing down the curriculum just so kids can pass. It is a slippery slope we are sliding down. We need to push and engage the upper end students, yet make sure that the lower end students are getting an education. This is supposed to happen all in one classroom with all level students and at the high school level we may have 35 plus students needing our attention during a class period. My DH has 45 students scheduled for an Algebra class in a very small room. He is frustrated because he knows that students will get lost in the shuffle and those are the very kids that need more individual attention and will not get it. It is also important that the kids have some responsibility in this too. The student is the one with the grade next to their name on the report card - the grade that they earned, not the grade they were given. We have teachers that don't give Ds and Fs, just to keep parents off their backs - how sad is that? So if the kid does not learn anything they still get a C and they are passed on - Parents happy, administrator happy, student happy. Hmmm. Taps is right, we have created a generation of students "who want everything spoonfed to them, no critical thinking, whining, ignorant adults...(I work with some of them!!)". They are used to their parents fighting their battles and nobody has ever told them no! Sad! The kids would be better served to realize that not everyone gets an A, not everyone makes the team, etc. SNT, the thing that makes your post so funny, is that it is true! DH and I were rollin', it is dead on! I love kids, I love to teach. They are the reason I show up to work everyday! I try to make my classes interesting and fun - but hey, some subject material is kind of dry! I try to build a relationship with my students and those of you that see me on FB can attest to that - probably 98% of my friends are former students. It is my job to present the material, but it is the students job to actively engage and at least try to learn! I work with all level of students and I do make adjustments for those that need it. I am an ADHD kid, I get it! But I still have high expectations for them to meet - you don't just get a grade, you earn a grade. Ok, off my soap box. I may have offended some of you and I apologize ahead of time.

My DD is that way, except she has to have everything in its place outside of her room. It is like her little sanctuary where she can just be a slob and it doesn't matter! It will be interesting to see which child shows up in her dorm room - will she be the neat and tidy roomie or the messy roomie???

Weeds: are a never ending problem! Dogs: Terriers love to dig, I could loan you mine! Zuc Lasagna: Recipe please, yummy! Rock Garden: My DS would be playing toss the garden with Slim's DS!

That is great that you are teaching her to think and come up with solutions, so many kids just can't think for themselves, it is sad!

No, I am giving it a bit of time to see where it moves, sometimes it will back down and I don't have to take the migraine meds. I am thinkin' this one is going to hang around though. Thanks for the reminder, I do tend to care for the family, animals, kids at school, parents and I am at the bottom of the list!

Here is my teacher advice to the kids: Read first, then do! Of course I am a horrible example - I always start filling out or working on things and then look at the directions! LOL! You ROCK!:sneaky: It is so hard for those kids that push themselves beyond normal expectations. Also be supportive as he enters high school, that is always a tough one and kids need to remember that college entrance people like to see kids that have overcome a challenge (getting their first ever :sneaky: and how they handled and responded to it. That way they will not be so overwhelmed when they get to college. Okay, feel like I have been on my teacher soap box all day!! Hold tight, kids are pretty resourceful when they see something they want! PJTP: DD is swollen and been sleeping most of the day. She takes her vicodin and falls asleep. Trying to keep ice on her cheeks but it is hard when she is sleeping. Poor dear! Nursing a migraine right now, just barely sitting there, I can feel it and think it was a weather change - damn weather:mad2:

Lellow, you look awesome! Wow! Thanks for starting this thread, it is nice to check in and see how everyone is doing! I miss chatting with everyone! Michelle, you can ride my horse :sneaky:! I wish I had another mellow horse so we could go for a ride when you come up next week!!! Gary~ WTG! Have fun on your anniversary trip! How exciting for you and your wife, sounds like the trip of a lifetime! Flem~ I understand the head game. Sometimes I see myself in the mirror and wonder who that is??? Tutor~ Sounds like you are right on track and you have a plan for this year! Way to go! I am feeling great and so glad that I am one year down. I love running, biking and swimming. My band has changed my life! I love being active and getting out to see the area where I live!! I had been in a plateau, but I am now losing slowly again and I will take it! I am just glad to be healthy! -
Good job ladies! When I can get back on the scale I am hoping that I see some downward movement! Until then I am cheering you on!

My kids always want to have yard sales, it is too much work! Plus we live just far enough out of town most people won't drive out to see what we have. Much easier to donate and I always feel good about it :sneaky:

Are you sure they were legit?? HMMM? I know that our women's shelter will take anything and everything, they are always in need! Our local Humane Society has a thrift store, so I always take donations to them - love helping the homeless animals. DD volunteered there for awhile, I think I left in tears every time I picked her up! I wanted to just bring all the doggies home with me! My marketing classes always do a fun fashion show to raise money for the shelter. They work in teams, and have to get all of their outfits from the thrift store and the students donate money to the team that they like the most! It is always a huge hit and they come up with hilarious outfits! Oh, I'm rambling - sorry!

Brandy~ About the first three weeks I did 3x a week and then after that I did the every other day thing and it worked. I liked it better because I was only taking one day off between runs and it was easy to keep motivated to get back out there!
-
I always use Kayak - but I always fly on the west coast, but would imagine that it would still pop up some good rates.
-
I am going in to school to get ready for Tuesday. Now that is depressing! Don't under rate yourself - if I can do it, anybody can! You over achiever! They will be amazed and impressed that you finished checking all of the those boxes so quickly!

Morning Tap! I can't sleep, too much to get done and not enough time to do it. Waiting for grocery store to open at 6. If my calculator isn't working, I would never know, unless it is a number of 10 or smaller :smile2: Michelle~ Have fun this weekend! TPG~ You still filling out that paperwork? Thought you might have pulled an all nighter just to get it done and prove that it doesn't take a week! My DS had his first football game last night and they got stomped on! 35-0, ouch!! He said he had a good game, I was home with DD, so didn't have to sit and watch it. So they have practice today, ugh, to work on blocking. Of course the coach makes practice from 11-12:15, right in the middle of the day on a Friday before a long weekend. Men!

Croissant dough and bite size candy bars - damn, that sounds sooooo good! DD is doing pretty well. We can understand what she is saying! She has some swelling this evening, but I have been diligent about getting her ice every 30 minutes, so hopefully it won't be too bad. I will definitely get some pictures for her scrapbook.
