7 pounds in one week
krtork replied to fatgirlinNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could be a tad tight from slight swelling. Some people swell a bit when they get a fill. I have not really felt like that, but I have heard that others do get some swelling after a fill and that can make you feel real tight. I hope you are feeling better and able to get some of that Protein shake down! -
Here is a link to the food and Nutrition; Liquid Phase recipes: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f82/liquid-stage-recipes-17636/ Lots of good ideas! Make sure you check out the recipes for the other stages too! I also like the this blog for ideas too: theworldaccordingtoeggface

Your granny gives good advice! Love it!

I would call your docs office Monday morning and get in to see him. Make sure you let him know everything that is going on and what you have been taking. I also agree with Unforgettable, if you don't feel like you can go to your doc with your concerns, maybe you should be seeing someone else. Your doc is there to support you not just before and during surgery, but after surgery. You will be going in to get fills and you need to feel comfortable asking questions and feeling confident that you are getting answers. Good luck and I hope you are feeling better.

7 pounds in one week

I would think some of that may have to do with only being on liquids and mushies the first couple of days. Sometimes right after a fill, I will drop 4-5 lbs super quick and then level back out. Make sure you are getting in your Water and you aren't dehydrated. If you are tracking/journaling your food, are you getting in your recommended Protein? Sounds like you are not eating much, 1 bite of meatball and 1 bite of Pasta. If you aren't able to get anything more down by Monday, you might want to call your doc. -
I love Chevy's - YUMMM! I wish we had one here, the closest one is 3 hours away (well, when I drive)!

I second that! This is my first stop everyday - I look forward to seeing how everybody is doing. All of you are my band family! G4E~ Glad to hear that they will be waking him - I hope that is a good sign and things are going better! So glad to hear that you still have a job! That has to be a huge relief! I am also glad that Princess may find it a little more challenging to get away with all the crap she pulls! Every other Friday off, sweet gig! Not grumpy, evil - yeah, I would say that sounds about right! Enjoy those watermelon mojitos - sound great! All liquids yeah!!! Don't forget to take the hangover remedy:wink2: Type A, straight A student - does that sound about right??? You will be fine! Don't worry, go git er done! Hope you have a wonderful lunch! Safe travels! Margaritas, chips! Call your surgeon!!!:wink2: Feeling confident in your decision will make the days leading up to surgery much easier! By all means, if you have any questions, fears, or freakouts, make sure you let us know; you have a wealth of info at your finger tips with this diverse group! No chicken strips for you TPG! PJTP: Had a great morning run by the river. Need to mow the lawns, but it looks like it might rain and then it will just grow another inch over night, so i am thinking mowing is a no go! I have been finding myself slipping into snack mode! Nasty, nasty old habit. I have been putting everything on dailyplate as soon as it hits my mouth. Hoping I will freak myself out and think twice before I eat! I hate how easy it is for these old habits to return. Hope everybody has a great weekend!

Happy One Year Anniversary - August All Stars
krtork replied to GaryB's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Gary - WTG! I bet it feels great to be feeling more fit and nearing your 50th and having your 25th anniversary. Best of luck in year two with your band! -
Sounds like you deserve the happiness that you have found with someone that loves you just for who you are!
-
Mim~ WTG, what a great NSV. It is a real thrill when you start fitting into "normal people" sizes! Have fun shopping!

Want to start running...need encouragement
krtork replied to Claudine1975's topic in Fitness & Exercise
WTG! I agree with Bill, I would go to a running store and get fit for a proper road shoe. Make sure you bring in the shoes that you are currently using, that will also help them determine what your needs are as far as the type of shoe that will work best for you. Kayaking sounds like a ton of fun! I would think that you would be fine combining days, just make sure that you get in at least one full rest day to give your muscles time to rest and recoup! Definitely listen to your body it will let you know if you are over doing it. -
I had an awesome run this morning! Woo Hoo! I am cutting minutes off my run and feeling stronger. I absolutely love trail running! The distance increase is going pretty well, I thought I would struggle more, but I seem to be holding up. I will do my first 5 mile run on Sunday. Excited to see if I can complete it!
-
Sounds like you put a lot of pressure on yourself at the race - I think that is so common! We go in with really high expectations and push too hard at the beginning and then can't keep up with the pace we have set. I agree with Kathy - keep pushing ahead. You already have a base and I would keep going forward and adding increments. I also do a short, medium and long run during the week. It mixes things up. I add in hills and do some cross training. You must not be too defeated since you are planning your next race! WTG! Learn from this experience and you will do better next time.

Lucky, lucky girl! The Garmin's are so nice. I am thinking about getting DH one for his b-day in Sept.

I love this thread! So I will add to it. When I was 6 years old, my great-grandma passed away. That night when I was in bed, I woke up and she was sitting in the rocking chair at the end of my bed. She was just rocking and watching me and she told me that everything would be alright. The next morning I asked my mom where grandma was and she told me that she died last night. This was the most vivid experience I have had.

You are a truly good friend to take care of your BF like that! Chicken & dumplin's, you have some strong will power girl! They probably made sure that you lost because they love your cookin'! Hi Slim! I want to chime in on the apology if I offended anybody! So sorry, it was all done in fun. I do take this all seriously and I do try to post and offer advice when and if I can. When I first was banded, this was the place I came to get answers from people that had been there and done that. I think you surgeon can offer advice, but sometimes it is nice to hear from others that have had the same experiences. I miss Tap! That is so ridiculous! Everybody comes to the point where enough is enough and you are at the last straw and you choose how you will deal with the issue of your weight - whether it is WLS or other means. Well, I would ask your surgeon:tt2:. I think it is natural as your surgery date gets near that you question whether or not this is the right option for you! If you were blindly going into having surgery, I would question your sanity! You should be concerned about the cons of having a band, but I think each person needs to weigh the risks and decide what is best for them. At this point - I would get my band again! It hasn't all been easy, but it has been worth the gains. Talk to me in another year and I might have a different opinion, but so far so good here! Again, weighing what is important to you and what you are willing to do to get healthy is a personal decision. G4E~ Good luck with the testing! Again, positive thoughts heading your way! I have been MIA the past day or so! I had an officer team meeting with my DECA kids at school. It was a fun day, they are so fun to be around and so silly - all girls! We have a really fun year planned and we were reviewing and getting ready for fall. They had some great ideas and changes that we are putting into place. Being back in the building added some extra pressure and I am feeling that push to get back to school and get ready for fall! Oh, I wish I could just saunter back in when the other teachers show up the week before school. Just is not in my nature!!! We have been busy picking up firewood in the forest. DH works for the Forest Service and they had a bunch of cut wood down in the Lava Cave Monument area, so DH asked what they were going to do with it - said we could have it as long as we took it all! So 6 pick up loads later, we have firewood for the winter! Yeah, it definitely cuts down on the heating bill! Hope everyone is doing well! I'll check back in tomorrow!

 Isn't that silly that you have to have 10 characters! Still keeping your BIL in my thought and prayers! Sending positive thoughts your way too! Hope you can get the answers you need and find out what is going on! HI! PJTP: Well, I thought I was going to go for a mountain run tonight, but that is not happening:mad2: Oh well, I will head out and hit the roads! Bought an under-counter ice maker for the espresso store at school. Nifty little thing and it makes the right size ice for iced and blended drinks! Love it! I also picked up some mats for the girls to stand on so they don't slip when the floor is wet!! I love auctions and sell offs! Yeah! Watching cheezy Lifetime movies with DD! They are so funny to watch, but it is overcast and kind of an icky day, so Lifetime movies it is!

Dan~ Are you getting any Fiber in our diet? That could be part of the problem, especially if you are tighter with this fill, you might eating almost all Protein and it is binding you up. I use Benefiber and love it. I usually put it in my oatmeal in the morning or a cup of tea during the evening. It really helps keep things moving!

At least you are recognizing that you eat from stress! Yeah for you! That is a good step. I know that feeling, we had a huge potluck type event at the holidays and it was a killer! But I got through it. I had a small bite, maybe two, of all the foods that I wanted and could try. You know what? I was full when I finished. Right now, as suggested by others, take a deep breath, take a walk around the building or whatever it takes to calm down. You don't say how far out you are from your banding. When you go to the potluck this afternoon, take a small dessert plate and use that for your meal, that way you can't over fill it, and take a sampling of all the yummy food and don't feel guilty. Oh yeah, no seconds! :rolleyes2: This could be your lunch/dinner and maybe you just need a light snack later in the day to get you through. It's okay to feel that frustration, it is part of the process! We have all been there done that! It is good to vent and get it off your chest!

3 Minutes in between bites
krtork replied to tmbowe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The three bites per meal would be a killer! I agree with Monkey - the eraser size bites is ridiculous for me. I have "mini" bites, and I chew well. Chewing, I think, is the key component! I was told no more than 20-30 min per meal. Otherwise you are just grazing and not really learning to eat a meal! Your stomach might not get that full feeling either. You need to fill the pouch so that it triggers the full feeling in your brain (I am sure there is more technical language). What she said! This does say "the first few months after surgery". I can't imagine using this for a life time. I guess it would help you learn to take time to eat. I still can't imagine 3 bites per meal - that would not give me a feeling of being full. I use the eating utensils down between bites and that seems to really help me slow down when I eat. I think that is reasonable and something that you could use and do for a lifetime of eating. That being said, the meal size is great and it would take more than 3 bites to eat that meal! Everybody is different and what works for one bandster may not work for another. I would find out how long the doc is expecting you to follow that rule and then I would see if it really works for you. -
I am by no means an expert, but I would imagine that as the swelling in your stomach goes down you will find that your port does "move". As I have lost weight, my port is in a slightly different postion than when I started.
