I think Cathy nailed it! I would add planning. That is huge for me. I teach, so this summer home has been a little harder, I like being on a schedule, takes the guessing out of my day! Make sure you plan what you will be eating for lunch so that you have it on hand or even pack the night before. I agree with the afternoon snack. I try to have a small piece of fruit, some nuts or maybe even a Protein bar before I head home. If I don't, I immediately start looking for something to put in my mouth when I walk in the door - years of ingrained training! I also pack my workout clothes and will change at school. That way I have no excuse, I can head to the gym or out for a run before I get home. Coming here and getting support is a great start! Best of luck to you!

Am I loosing too much too fast?
krtork replied to joshNyC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too went from eating to exercise. I like the exercise better than the food! I am going to look into skin firming lotion, good idea. I had not thought of that. I have a ton of loose skin and it is driving me nuts! -
Fell off the wagon with questions...

Sounds like you have the right attitude! Keep up the good work and make those good choices. Emotional eating does not just go away, it is something that you will always have to work on and be aware of! -
Heartfire~ We start school up at the end of the month, in fact the kids aren't back until Sept 8 this year! Which means we won't end until late June. I have been getting together with my officer team and store managers, so I am always back in the building early! Can't wait to get my hair done. I have been trying to grow it out a bit so I could do something different with it. Ready for a change!

Chocolate, did someone say chocolate? I like the SF Fudgsicles! Yum! I also like the SF Chocolate Pudding.

Any last minute advice?

I second the lip balm! I am also a huge fan of SF Popsicles for something cold and easy to eat. Good luck with your surgery! -
Help Thirsty all the time
krtork replied to lapgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds to me like you might be dehydrated. You should be able to sip or drink a few ounces at a time without feeling too bad. You might set a goal for yourself of "x" number of oz per 15 minutes. That way you aren't gulping or drinking too much at one time and it gives the fluids time to get through your band before you start drinking again. If you are having a hard time drinking, you might want to call your doc and see what they say. Are you getting in a full 64oz a day? I try to have my Water bottle out so that I remember to get my water in during the day. I wouldn't worry about stretching your pouch with water, of course I am not a medical professional, but I would think it would take a significant amount of water over a long period of time to really stretch your pouch. It is more important at this point to make sure you are hydrated - you don't want to end up in the hospital! Hope this helped! -
Oregon is a great place to live! I think you are obsessed! You are always making me want to drink!! I seriously need to run out and by some alcohol! You're still typing, can't be too many! Lifting mojitos is just exercise, silly! And I bet your middle name is MOM! Yeah on the interview! Crossing my fingers for you! I looked at my hair today and it scared me! I thought I had some lovely blond streaks from the summer sun - wrong! I need my yearly cut and color before school starts so I made the phone call! Time to head out for dog agility! Fun, fun! Have a nice evening!

Want to start running...need encouragement
krtork replied to Claudine1975's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Oh you have no idea! I fell two runs in a row on the same stupid rock! Had skinned knees and bruises! It is amazing being out and about - I love it! So glad you upgraded the shoes! It is amazing what a comfy ride new shoes can be! At least your overinflated ass is out there! You will be cruising along in no time at all! You should tell your sucky company to participate! :sneaky:Do they know they have greatness in their midst? -
Yeah! So glad that you get to start running again! Take it easy and listen to your body - hopefully your foot will be happy and want to run! Yeah on the new shoes! It is amazing what properly fit shoe will do for you. Make sure you go back in every so often and get refit. I have found as I have lost weight that my stride has changed slightly. Your training schedule sounds nice and balanced. I would encourage you to take at least one full day off per week. It is good for your body to have a chance to recoup! I would pick up on week 3 and see how you feel. You will know if you need to redo that week or you are ready to move on. I redid several weeks, no problems. I am not a doctor or a nurse, just a plain old gal that loves to run. So, that being said. I did have some problems with my port area when I first started to run. I ended up going in to see the doc just incase it was an infection of some sorts. They did put me on antibiotics for 10 days. The tenderness did go down. He also had me take two weeks off or running to give the tenderness time to "heal". Every since then, no problems at all. Occasionally after a rigorous run, I might be a bit tender around the port area, but it quickly subsides. Don't know if that helps. You might give your doc a call and see what he says. You also could give it a couple of days to see if the tenderness goes down.

Fell off the wagon with questions...
krtork replied to micnat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fell off the wagon - NOW, jump back on! We are all human and take missteps and that is how we learn. Stay away from fast food. It will take time before you can expose yourself to those temptations and make a good choice. By getting the band you made a lifestyle choice, it will take time to retrain your brain. Yeah, it went down this time, but you need to remember that you are healing! Even though you can't feel it, your stomach churns when it digests food and that is the last thing you need to be doing right now! You will be hungry over the next few weeks and months as you start getting your adjustments. There are plenty of foods you can eat, but you, and only you, make the choice as to what you eat and how much of it you eat. Move forward, make good choices and you will learn to love your band! -
I am in love with my venti, 6 pump, no Water, non-fat chai! I weaned myself off of them and now I only have one, every two or three weeks. I have it in the morning and occasionally I will drop in a scoop of unflavored Protein powder - but most of the time I just drink it as is! It takes me time to drink all of it, but I love the indulgence. You really need to look at what you do for daily calories and if it works, it works. If you are drinking that plus adding on additional calories to help fill you up - you might want to rethink it.

Kat~ Happy B-Day!! Hope you have a fantabulous day! G4E~ hope the testing went well today! PJTP: Oh man am I sore today! I think it is a rest day! I did get up and go help with volleyball camp registration - I have been the team manager for the past three years, having a hard time letting go. Kind of weird how your children's sports/interests can define who or what you do. "Hi, I am Taylor's mom, yeah, the 6' middle." Nope, no name for me, just "Taylor's mom". Of course I am also "Tanner's mom", but that gets complicated, the silly kid plays three sports! Oh well, Taylor's and Tanner's mom (grammar??)is off to play with the puppies :thumbup:and move irrigation:thumbdown:!

You might try to go 2 for the short, 3 medium and 4 long. That way you have a good variety of distance. Obviously you will need to work up to the 4 mile, but you will be amazed at how quickly you can increase the distance. You want your long run to be steady and slow - not out to win any races! I use my short runs to work on speed. I will also kick up the end of my medium run each week. As Kathy said, you need that distance to build up endurance. The Garmins are really nice. You can use them to check your heart rate, distance, and time. Some of them even have a GPS so you can track your runs and save them and you won't get lost - unless you are my DH! If it was me, I would save up for a Garmin. Once you get a lower end monitor, you will most likely be looking to upgrade. My theory - get what you want! I want to get a hr monitor and start tracking my exercise so I can make sure I am going at my peak. The one that Mac is getting is awesome, Water proof, so she can use it for her swims too! Sorry about the torch run - that is a huge bummer! That is so great that you are on the 2nd annuals! How fun. Mine will be in December. I can't believe how far I have come in one year! Wow! My trail run was awesome today! 5 miles under my belt! Woo Hoo! Not saying that it was easy, but I completed it. It was an amazing trail along the river with great views of the river, falls, forest and meadows! The only sucky part was the canyon "stairs" we had to go up and down. Man did I get a good fanny workout. However, sore knees and back from coming down the "stairs". My time was not too bad for increasing distance. I really enjoyed it!

Not allowed to run! That has to be killing you! My 5 mile run was amazing! The scenery was beautiful. We had to run the river "stairs" (read as: come up out of a canyon) and it was a serious pain in the butt! Holy cow! Coming down it was a killer, my knees are sore and so is my back. But the rest of the run was really great. I am not the fastest, but it was a good time for me and for increasing distance I was pretty satisfied. -
Slim~ I started running about 2.5 months out from surgery and I have not looked back. I wanted to wait until I was closer to 200 lbs, but decided I just needed to get it going. I did the Couch to 5K program and loved it. It brings you along slowly so I did not have any problems/pain. I did my first 5K in Dec and try to do one at least every other month, just to help with the motivation:smile2: Here is the link to coolrunnings: Cool Running :: The Couch-to-5K Running Plan Ebony has also just started the program, so she would also be a good resource! She also just did a great job answering your question about removing paint! Well, fatass to fatass, glad you are back! Sounds like you are feeling better. Glad I could recommend the site - her artwork is absolutely lovely! Nothing like a good run in a beautiful place to start the day! You need to slow down! Damn girl, you have way to much energy!!! :tt2:You can send some of those herbs this way! I did not get anything planted this "spring". I have one tomato that actually grew and I have one pot of basil that I got from Trader Joe's and never got it in the ground. How pathetic is that??? Sorry about the rain! Hope you have a good day even though you can't get your swim in! Sounds like you had a lovely weekend with the grandkids and made some yummy treats! You will find yourself obsessed until surgery. I wanted to eat everything "one last time" before surgery. Didn't happen, but I kept thinking about all the things I just had to have!

Very quiet in here this morning. Ebony, you are one busy girl! Holy cow! I love to paint also. Too bad we don't live close we could remodel together! Nothing like inviting others to your house to get it cleaned up and ready to go! Sounds like you are putting on a lovely evening! Slim, nothing worse than a poor remodel in the bathroom! Argh, what a mess that can be. I have lovely golden harvest tile in one and blue bird in the other - you guessed it, the house was built in '71! Oh yeah, baby! I had a fun run this morning. It totally kicked my butt! We did 5 miles along the river and it was amazing! It is a section where I have been to the falls, because you could drive there, but never been on the trails between the falls. We had to climb "stairs" out of the canyon and it really was a hard workout. I feel like I am hobbling around and I aged about 20 years! It does feel good to have finished the run. That is the farthest I have ever gone, so definitely upping the mileage. Well, I hope you all have a great Sunday!

I had never heard of such a thing! I am going out to buy a cake and some diet soda. What a great idea! Slim~ I love this site and would highly recommend it, she has some great recipes and ideas! Keeps things interesting!

Kids gave me another one: Yo momma's so fat when she takes a shower her feet don't get wet
-
I have been wiping the tears away!!! Yo mama so fat when they used her underwear elastic for bungee jumping, they hit the ground.

PJTP: Wow, my last post was long! Had a busy day, but it was really enjoyable. I did a bunch of housework today and had the kids help out. It was kind of nice to just be hangin' out with the kids today and in the end we had a clean house! I feel like I had a good eating day - no snacking! That is the one thing that I am really having a hard time getting rid of, it comes back so easily! I am trying to track as I stick the food in my mouth, I think that helps. I am also trying to think ahead so that when school starts I am prepared. I hope everybody has a great weekend!

Weird dream - but I am sure you will be fine and not have to worry about your dog going to school!:tt2: Sounds like a lovely evening! Have FUN! Kat~ I totally agree. I feel like I have to be on the defense when I post anymore and I hate having to be that way! I hope our friends will also choose to stay! I love posting here and feeling like I can get the answers I need, a kick in the butt when I need it and know that we have all been through the same thing and we all get it! It is so hard to garden in Central Oregon! I was going to try a small garden again this year, but the weather was just too weird!!! Needless to say it never was started. I tried one of those topsy-turvy (sp) planters and I have one stinkin' tomato! WTH! Your grandkids are lucky to have you as a grandma! Sounds like you had a great lunch! Wow! Isn't it nice to go out and have normal portions and left overs for later! I love that part! Sounds like you are still busy on the house! It is so nice to see you keeping up with your wogging - I think you might even be able to jump up to use the word "jogging"! Keep up the good work! What a great godparent you are, getting the parents drunk so you can enjoy your goddaughter!:tt2: Michelle~ So sorry to hear that this happened to you! I can just imagine how pissed you must be! I hope you had that glass of wine! I think you nailed it on the head! I know that I am newer to this group - but I felt welcomed and I followed along before I jumped in. It just seemed like a really fun group of people and now I miss those that have left, even if it is just to take a break! G4E~ Sounds like BIL is improving, still in my thoughts and prayers. Good luck on Monday with your tests! I really want to see J&J, so glad you are giving it a good review. I might take DD and bust out and go see it. A pedicure, how decadent! Enjoy the game and the kiddo!

:smile2::lol:And I am sure you ran right down there to get something to eat! LOL. WTG on the finish! I have my first 5 mile trail run tomorrow morning! That will be the longest run that I will have ever completed. The trail section we are running is pretty technical so I am sure I will be out there for awhile. Should be fun! If I survive I will let you know how it went. -
Have you ever regretted getting a band and not another form of WLS??
krtork replied to Nicynoo1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You've received some really good advice. I went through a 4-5 month period with no weight loss. So it can happen at anytime along the way! I finally started losing again this last month! I would make sure you are sticking to eating well and exercising. I have found that exercise is really important for me. When I was in the rut I really wanted to just give up, but I stuck with it and it really has helped. I did lose inches and I am sure it was from exercising, because I was not losing any weight. I love my band and would not go back in a minute. I would have never lost the weight that I have and I would not still be moving down the scale like I want to. It is a lot of work, but it is worth my health and the new energy I have! -
Everybody is different and it seems that all doctors have different philosophies. It took me 6 fills before I felt like I was really at my "sweet spot". The first few fills were tough I could still eat more than I felt I should be eating. If you are following your doctors instructions you should be successful. If you are losing 1-2 lbs a week, then you should be on track. I know that it may seem slow, but you didn't gain all the weight over night, so it will take awhile for it all to come off. Feel proud of your weight loss so far and remember, you are at the beginning of the journey and still have a long way to go! You will get there!
