3 months post op breakfast ideas
Spinoza replied to phoenixillume's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've never been a breakfast eater and (despite my dietician pushing me) I'm still not. I am a fan of greek yoghurt or kefir first when I do eat at around midday. Usually with some berries. But sometimes I just go straight to early lunch, which is e.g. a protein-y soup or chicken salad. I'm almost 6 months post op now but I've been doing this pretty much since I started proper solid food. I do love eggs too but I can see how they get samey. What about omelettes - infinite variations on a theme, you can top with almost anything! -
Yes! A one egg pan here too!!

Why did you choose VSG over other bariatric surgeries?
Spinoza replied to ManicPixie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Some of the same reasons as SleeveDiva and ms.sss here - I didn't like the idea of re-routing my guts and I didn't like the risks of malabsorption and dumping. I've been lucky with my choice - it's worked out really well for me so far. As everyone else says, they're all tools and I believe the final result you get depends so much on you - both how you use the tool and lots of pre-determined factors you can't change. Good luck - whichever you choose you'll get lots of support and information here. I so value this community - it's been my best source of information by far. -
So I did a thing...

Aw that first proper food after surgery is amazing. And you're approaching it so well - enjoy! -
One more try before surgery again
Spinoza replied to Erin18's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't think anyone here will tell you you don't need surgery and instead you need to eat more healthily! Most of us have been exactly where you are. My one regret about my sleeve is that I didn't do it many years ago and save myself years of yo-yoing and stress and obesity and self-loathing. My advice would very much be to forego the final attempt to lose weight and keep it off, given the tiny chances of success long term. I say cut to the chase and see your bariatric surgeon again and tool yourself up! Good luck whatever you decide. -

6 days post op and 0 lbs lost
Spinoza replied to BariBlonde's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Lots of people have a stall straight after their surgery. I did - took me around 10 days to start seeing losses. Please don't worry - if you hit your protein and fluid targets you will be fine, and you will definitely see a loss soon. Best of luck! -
How often do you guys weigh yourselves?
Spinoza replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every morning here too - can't stop myself, it's so nice these days when the scale is always going down. I avoided scales for months at a time before. Once I stop losing it'll probably be once a week or so just to keep tabs on it. -

OMG those look so good they should be outlawed. But just before they are, I'll have the one on the bottom left please. -
Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
Spinoza replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Me too - really noticed this over the last couple of weeks - I thought there was something wrong with my office chair! Also bath sheet wrapping around me completely with an overlap. And the tiniest sliver of light between my mid-thighs even when I press my legs together. Amazing what encourages people, isn't it? -
Honestly, you are likely to lose weight so quickly it might be a good idea to exchange them for one of each of the next 3 sizes down!

Does anyone have a sample/suggestions to what a liquid diet pee op should look like
Spinoza replied to mafer1980's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They really can be amazingly different. I wasn't even asked to stick to only liquids - I was allowed 800 calories in whatever form I wanted for 2 weeks and then I think a liquid/low residue diet for a couple of days beforehand (hard to remember now!) Good luck - some people find it really tough, I was fine with it because I was all 'eyes on the prize' after my surgery was cancelled 2 months previously. -
Surgery date May 23rd
Spinoza replied to martin8453's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Brilliant - I hope it goes really smoothly for you, it's absolutely life-changing. Have you started a pre-op diet yet? -
Oh dear - this would be my worst nightmare, LOL. It's not the availability or the cost of the tests that would bother me, it's their interpretation. What do you do if the result is 1% above the normal range, or 10%, or 18.5%? Or the same amount below? What if you got the result on a Friday night - is it safe to wait until Monday morning to phone your doctor to discuss or could it kill you over the weekend? And a million other variables. I just could not do this - I think you need a clinician both to know what is appropriate to order in the first place and to know what the significance is if the result isn't slap bang in the middle of the normal range. Having said that I know it's horses for courses and you may have better than average medical knowledge - good luck with your results!

Best of luck Possum - I hope it all goes smoothly for you. As you say, it's the start of a new life

Good on you. I hope you have a smooth path this time and that you get to where you want to be really quickly. Sounds like you've got this. -
Feeling depressed after gaining weight :) looking for support
Spinoza replied to Gretchel Z's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss Gretchel, that's so sad for you and your husband. It sounds like you did really well after your surgery and you can definitely do that again now. When you say eating healthy do you mean that you are tracking all your macros/everything you eat? Are you eating protein first at all meals, followed by veg and then if you have room a small amount of carbs? Are you avoiding drinking for half an hour before eating and at least half an hour afterwards? If not it might be worth going back to absolute basics. If you've been in maintenance for a long time you might have got used to eating differently. Some people here have got back on track after much bigger gains than 30lbs @GradyCat and others - good on you for nipping this in the bud. You have done so well before, you can SO do that again. Best of luck. -
Anyone Struggle Watching Your Family Eat?
Spinoza replied to Crisscat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm almost six months post sleeve and I have cooked everyone else's main meal since pretty much day 1. I also sat at the table at dinner time so we ate as a family. These days I just have what I've cooked for everyone else but concentrating on the protein and some veg - still don't have room at all for carbs although I've had the occasional teaspoon of mashed potato because I love it. I don't follow recipes so I have to taste all the time - sometimes by the time I come to serve everyone else I'm already full - especially things like a ragu - I'm super fussy about getting that right so have to taste it a *lot* -

End of a stall here too - thank goodness, it's boring as heck. I can't say anything made the difference in the end - just kept keeping on. I do wonder whether the people who say that increasing protein or increasing exercise or increasing water 'broke' their stall were just distracting themselves with those things and the stall was going to break anyway, but then swear they were THE reason?? -
Wait, what????
Spinoza replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So glad you're through everything and back here already SD! Are you home again? I also lost 5lbs on the day of surgery but it was a full 2 weeks before I lost anything more. So weird how different it is for everyone. -
I remember that day so well. The taste and texture of real food for the first time in what seemed like forever. And the reassurance that my restriction really was there. Enjoy - sounds like you're doing really well.

Any Tips to speed up fat loss?
Spinoza replied to BeachBeauty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are doing amazingly. I lost 7lbs last month - my stats are almost the same as yours OP although I'm a bit taller so my BMI is lower. I agree with the others, do check you're not slipping diet-wise, make sure you're doing some exercise and you should be fine. Some people here have really seen a whoosh after upping their protein intake significantly, others after changing their exercise routine, and others after increasing fluids. All worth a try I guess! -
Mashed Cauliflower during puréed phase?
Spinoza replied to xtielynn's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I pureed entire family dinners and definitely had some cauliflower in those with no problem at all. Hope it agrees with you - I looove cauliflower - just had some with my lunch! -
Can you lose restriction after surgery???
Spinoza replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
https://mexicobariatriccenter.com/will-my-stomach-stretch-after-gastric-sleeve-surgery/ Good luck for tomorrow! I found the above page useful. I've read a study recently that showed that on average gastric sleeve pouches increase gradually in size after surgery to an average of 240ml (about 8 oz) at 2 years. That is necessary to allow you to get enough nutrition for the long term. I can try to find it again if you want to read it? I totally agree with the above posters that you can eat around your sleeve - people who eat slider foods and who graze all day, and who drink when they're eating (look for the youtube video with applesauce - it's hilarious but such a good demonstration of why you shouldn't do that) can get a LOT of calories in. If you stick to nutrient dense foods and stick to your dietetic program you should be fine! -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
Spinoza replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm still pretty much doing that six weeks on. I don't have to think nearly as much about what I eat now. Big challenge in a few weeks' time when I go out for a meal with family (I haven't told them about my surgery). The restaurant only does a tasting menu so there are about 8 courses to get through. I hope they come slowly, I can drink a bit to help them slip down, and that I can 'share' (i.e. pass on) plenty of what's on my plate! I'll be telling them I'm cutting down, because that's the truth.
