  1. Fingers crossed that's the end of them. What a difficult time you've had
  2. No to different vitamins to prevent hair loss. It's rubbish and can be really stressful but eventually it grows back. Most of it anyway. 👍

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

OMG FAB FAB FAB! Wishing you success in the next 2 months too. You've got this FMO xxx
  4. I considered the band, but less than a day of research convinced me never to have it. Got sleeved instead and have never looked back. What puts you off more invasive surgery OP? It's definitely a bigger investment in the short term but I think well worth it in the longer term. Best of luck whatever you decide.

    Favorite pureed/ soft foods?

Honestly at the pureed phase I literally just pureed whatever my family was eating with some extra gravy or sauce! Honestly the most delicious meal I had - possibly ever - was the pureed roast lamb dinner with veg that I ate a few weeks after surgery. I still remember that flavour explosion after 2 weeks of liquids. Never had another protein shake EVER after that. Proper food FTW! Best of luck!

    Length of liquid diet Post-op

I was on full fluids from day 1 - the very first thing I was given post op was coffee and strained yoghurt (which I simply could not get down). 2 weeks of those, 2 of puree, then onto normal but softer foods progressing as I felt able. Surgeons really do differ a lot. I did like comparing my programme to others here though - still do! Best of luck, hope you do really well OP.

    Struggling with weight loss

OMG that is beyond frustrating. The only certainty I've ever had re dieting is that if you get your calorific intake low enough it's impossible NOT to lose weight. Your experience goes against that completely. I would ask my doctor for a full physical and an explanation if I was in your situation. I'm so sorry, the surgery is such a big commitment it's totally unfair that it hasn't worked as you hoped it would (and we all did too). The only other suggestion I can offer is looking at your exercise regime and whether you could alter that in any way. But that's just to try to make a positive suggestion. Best of luck.

    PROTIEN BARS AND YOUR PLAN

My plan didn't exclude them but I've only ever used them as something to buy and eat in an absolute emergency when I couldn't get absolutely anything better (so - once, LOL). I am a huge fan of deli meats and cheese - you can buy them virtually everywhere you go and they seem to suit me better.

    Bread after gastric sleeve?

I echo those above. I have eaten virtually no pasta or potatoes in the last 15 months. I can just about tolerate bread, so have been able to eat it in situations where there isn't anything more suitable, but it lies in my stomach like a lump of lead afterwards. Rice is the same - I can have two or three small pieces of sushi and then my stomach says 'no more'. It's really weird but helpful weird, IYKWIM!
  10. Lots of personal experience gets quoted and shared on this forum because that's the nature of this type of forum I think. I can only speak for myself but I know I don't stay full for nearly as long if I drink soon after eating. I know this because I have used it to eat bigger volumes than I normally can, in situations where I want to (for my own reasons, usually obfuscation, LOL). I wouldn't generalise my experience, it's just my very own - but it is my experience. 😊

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

You're doing so well FMO. So glad you're back on track - you're an absolute inspiration xx
  12. I had to do 2 weeks of 800 calories max - whatever way I wanted to do that was fine. There are so many different programmes it's almost unbelievable! Hope you get out the far end unscathed OP.
  13. Yeah - drinking soon after eating pushes food through a sleeve quicker. We're a lot less prone to dump than people who have had a bypass, but some of us still do. I have been super lucky - have pushed the boundaries of my sleeve in a number of ways when it suited me but never paid a big price. I can drink right up until I eat but I don't like to drink for at least an hour after (preferably two) - I have framed that in my head as a total waste of my sleeve.

    Onederland

So happy for you summerseeker - you had your surgery within a few days of mine and I have LOVED hearing about your journey as I went on mine. No big insights to share, just wanted to send huge congratulations to you. There is no right or wrong final weight. I suspect (and hope) you'll land where you're happy. Best of luck to you x

    YUMM

OMG these would be like the devil to me. Total trigger food, LOL. Each to their own though, hopefully we all know our limits at this point - enjoy! (they look absolutetely lush)!!! 😍

    I’m so cold! 🥶

Freezing all the time here too - after 100+lbs loss. The room I'm currently sitting in is 21 degrees but I have four layers on on top and my hands and feet are like blocks of ice. It's one of the biggest changes I've experienced after surgery. Cannot get used to it.
  17. Oh god I have nothing at all similar but I am so loving your story I just had to say!

    Acid Reflux

I was in a similar situation as you before my sleeve OP. However - I KNEW that previously when I had lost a lot of weight my reflux had all but disappeared. I really didn't want a bypass so I decided to take the risk of 2 procedures and have the sleeve. It worked out as I had hoped - I lost a lot of weight and that cured my reflux. However, I totally accepted that it might have gone the other way. My surgeon didn't offer me any certainty or promise me anything - it was me who decided in the end. I hope this helps a bit and best of luck to you.

    7 Months Out, Need Motivation

If you know the plan and can't stick to it just a few months after taking the big big step to have surgery then I would seriously advocate finding a therapist who specialises in bariatric surgery patients. I say this only with support and sympathy - I do not do 'holier than thou' ever. So many people have travelled the same road. It is SO SO hard not to eat when our hunger comes back. What we need to ensure is that the prospect of eating healthy food is preferable to the option to eat crap. If you can re-frame your relationship with food now you still have plenty of time to make the most of your chance. I do wish you the very best of luck.
  20. Pizza is a slider food for me - wonder if it might be for you too OP? I can eat way more of that (volume wise) than just about anything else. To the degree that it's what I choose to eat when I'm concealing the fact I've had surgery or what I'm eating is under scrutiny by other people in a negative way. I can eat plenty pf pizza - certainly 3 slices, and then even more if I drink liquids at the same time to push it along even quicker, as Tek says. Not something I would advocate at all but I do use this technique when under pressure.
  21. Also loving those analogies Smanky 😍

Recovery TImes / Back to work

Also a sleeve and also ended up taking 2 whole weeks off. And even after that I was really really tired at the end of a working day (sedentary job) so honestly it took me 3 weeks to get back to my baseline. I echo what the others have said about arranging some flexibility in advance if you can at all. Best of luck with your surgery. It's absolutely life changing. You will love it after you get over the initial pain and stuff.
  23. I do most of this too at 15 months out - I use a dessert fork and eat from small plates. I also cut up meat into tiny pieces. I think (hope!) it'll be a long time before I change that. Have never thought about the size of each mouthful - a black bean is so tiny but I suppose nothing wrong with starting there. My biggest fault is eating too quickly. I tend to inhale about 3/4 of what I know (from previous experience) I will be able to eat at a particular meal and then push my chair back and wait to see whether I want (or need) the rest (either can apply depending on the day and the meal!) Best of luck to you. And sorry - only now seeing that you particularly wanted info from people with RnY - I had a sleeve. Hope it helps a little anyway.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Thank you so much for the update gmast. I could have written this post. The last 15 months have been so easy in some ways - when I read the problems other people have run into. I count my blessings every day. Not taking anything for granted either - you have to work at this forever don't you?

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Oh wow - look at that change already!!! Are you finding any particular days of that plan difficult FMO? Genius to have the all shake day followed by your least strict day - gives you something to look forward to. So amazing that you're back on track xxx
