    Question

It's probably fluid from the body trying to deal with the foreign object. I can't remember the medical term. I think this is normal but check with the doctor. I'm not sure if this means it's infected or not. I had something similar and it didn't hurt until the first fill attempt and they were poking me with their fingers. When the stuck the needle in it squirted out...gross! But the area felt much better afterwards.
  2. I've had 3 fills...4 counting the one when they couldn't find the port. All of them have been difficult and painful. I won't let them touch me without numbing it.
  3. With me getting stuck usually feels painful in the stomach area and I start sliming. It doesn't sound to me that you;re describing a stuck feeling but everyone's different.
  4. I was banded on 6/30/08 and my doctor has me on 1500 per day. 1500 seemed high at first but I was loosing so they kept me at that level. I began to be difficult not to go over until they got my band tighten to a point where I had restriction.

    3rd fill - Problems

Hi all! I went in for my 3rd fill and the np had a terrible time hitting the port. The first fill was a bad experience and the 2nd was fine because I had them numb me. No numbing on the 3rd and that was a mistake. I think this office is against numbing. All i hear is that the lidocane burns worse...nope! Anyway...the np gave me 1.5 cc's so I'm up to 4 cc's. She had me drink Water...i guess to test. No restriction but I now I'm sick to my stomach. Is this normal?
  6. Here's a question for you guys. I was banded on 6/27 and the dr. has moved me to solid foods. The dietician has me eating about anything reasonable that fits into following range. 1500 calories per day, 53g of fat, <200g carbs 60+g Protein Is this comparable to what everyone else is doing? I should add that I haven't had a fill yet and have no restriction in eating but have stayed within this range sinces it's inception. I treated to my to dinner out and ate the following. 1 taco 1 enchilada refried Beans rice To me this seems like too much but does fit the range as noted above. I would expect that once the ring is filled up I would only eat a quarter of this...at least that's my hope. Thoughts? Suggestions? Does this compare to ya'll?

just had a fill....a little worried

I'm in the same boat. Had my 2nd fill and I'm not hungry and feel sick. I'm not sure what the heck to do.
  9. I finally got my first fill after a second attempt. They numbed the area and it was fine...thank god. Unfortunately, no difference. No restriction! They only added 1cc though!

    am I slipping??

I was put on soft solids at 4 weeks and told to gradually move into solids. I think lots of doctors do things differently. I was told that I could eat anything but had to stay with 1500 calories a day. I feel guilty with some of the foods I eat. I sure hope I'm not slipping the wrong way. You're not alone.

    No Hunger

Congrats on the banding. I had this too during the first couple of weeks...unfortunately for me it went away before I was able to eat solid foods. That in between time was tough!

    Any Fill Doctors In Illinois?

That's too pricey and he's my doctor. Hopefully, I don't start getting bills for this.

Dr. not able to access port

I'll be asking about the numbing and xray. I guess the needle sticks didn't hurt so much as the poking and prodding of the port. Obviously, something wasn't healed right or long enough. I'll go back but not without lidocane or the rub on stuff.
  14. I'm glad there healing. Different doctors do things differently I guess. I just think that glue on an abdomen (that bends and twists) isn't enough. But again, I'm not a doctor.

Dr. not able to access port

Here's my story on my first fill. Unfortunately, it was a very bad experience. I was banded on 6/27 and was scheduled to have the fill next week but I'll be on vacation so I asked to bump it up a week. I think that was a mistake! The nurse practitioner did the procedure. My assumption is she's done many but definately had problems with me. Why I don't know. They had me stand up to find the port and her pushing on my stomach really hurt. She found the port with her fingers but the problems began when she couldn't find the port with the needle. The first poke hurt and the digging around definately added to pain. The bottom line is she missed the port and had to do it again. She pulled out the needle and and Fluid began leaking out from the hole. Mostly clear with with a hint of pink. Gross! After the second stick and my squirming in pain she had the doctor come in and they decided they couldn't do the fill because of the fluid around the port. How disappointed I was. Has anyone else experience this? They didn't even offer to numb the area. It was so bad I don't even want to go back. This was my experience. I'm sure your's will be fine. My advice is to numb the area.
  16. Open holes is sloppy doctoring...did they steri-strip the incisions with the glue? My were sewn, glued and steri-strip. If it were me I'd be discussing this with my doctor...quickly!

    Anxiety AFTER surgery?

I experienced the same thing as described above...I also had a ton of energy which maybe part of the anxiety too. My wife couldn't keep me down.

    Finally my first fill

I'm glad it went well. My first fill or attempt to fill went badly. Couldn't hit the port, couldn't find the port, etc. Did the doctor numb you or use xray to find the port? Did I mention it hurt badly. I'm hoping when I go back in 2 weeks it will go without incident.
  19. That makes sense. So what happens if the person runs out of adjustment?

    I'm curious....

Less personal risk in having the lapband when compared to the Y. The Y was to scary for me.

Uhh how long do I have to wait

I was on thick liquids for about 1.5 weeks. The doctor and dietician put on me solids or soft solids at 3 weeks. I was banded on 6/27 and I'm eating regular foods now.
  22. This is another great post. I have no restriction yet and have not had a fill and it's frustrating so I can certainly relate. What happen's when you hit the "sweet spot" does that stay forever or does that change over time. 5 years out???
  23. I have no restriction and was banded on 6/30. I've been eating normal foods for about 1.5 weeks and can eat quite a lot before I feel anything. I have not had a fill yet and will assume this will limit your intake. My dietician has me restricted to 1500 cals per day which seems to incure 1-2 lbs of weight loss a week...but I've seen the same yo-yo'ing.
